Dr. Thomas worked with both of my sons following the death of their father. I found her to be extremely capable in getting the boys to open up about their feelings. She was warm, caring, and knowledgeable. She used a variety of interventions, as the boys were five years apart in age. She is a great psychologist.
I cannot believe the reviews on here! Of the thousands of families Dr. Thomas has saved, a few disgruntled people who ended up on the wrong side of a judge's decision go on and give a neg. rating, totally skewing the results. The reviews aren't even in regards to her status as a doctor (a PhD, not an MD, and thus not in line with this site anyhow) but in conjunction with her court work! Sour grapes? From my personal experience as an adult suffering from chronic bipolar II, I can attest to her caring, her devotion, and her accessibility. She knows her stuff! She has kept me alive. I can think of no better review than this.
My ex and I have used Dr. Shirley Thomas as a PC/DM. I think she has been fair although I have wished that she took a stronger stand against people who did not keep to agreements reached in mediation. She has always been exactly on-time, and is very knowledgeable.
This lady was the most horrible person/cfi. She lied in the report and was so completely biased for my ex husband! There was domestic violence and she completely ignored it and turned it around like it was ME that was abusive! She lied and did not fully report what was given and told to her! She is pure EVIL!!! She will only side with men and she ruined a little childs life by her biased, lie filled, incomplete report! She should NOT be a part of the CFI's that are used. She was rude and unfriendly and made you feel, right from the beginning, that YOU are on trial and have done something wrong, even when you haven't. I would like to turn her into the ethics board. She should NOT be a CFI...If she is suggested for your case, RUN! Do whatever you can to NOT get her! Save your child!
Dr.Thomas is very cool in her people skills. Her investigation skills are weak. She shows a strong bias toward men. Her reports are not valid. I would not only NOT recommend her for a CFI, I would warn anyone who is going for parenting skills to beware. She is not good with children. Check the Colorado Family Investigation code and requirements before you hire anyone. All anyone that has the title of Dr. in front of their name should be accountable for more than just a CFI.
Dr. Thomas was the CFI assigned to my divorce case. I felt like she barely reviewed the information in our case. Her findings letter seemed templated, had many instances where the information she presented was inaccurate or contradictory to other portions of her own letter. I felt her fees were very high considering the amount of time she spent on the case. A couple hours of office time, a standardized test, one letter and the bill was $4500 (over $1000 more than she had estimated when we began, though I'm not sure what extra work was done warrant the extra cost).
