:( Click to report rating *  1/6/10 1 1 1 Had lower back deep tissue injury. Lots of medications prescribed and kept harping that I was depressed. I was depressed from months of sleeping on the floor, crawling hands and knees to fridge etc, zoned out from all the meds, couldn't work or drive to work, lost my spirit. After months of this, finally got myself to specialist out of province. His diagnosis deep tissue injury and not crazy told me to drop the meds gave me specific exercises. Got my life back rapidly and depression lifted with getting better and back to work. Condescending to patients who question treatment or do research on their own. Did not like that I insisted on referral to specialist-referred me grudginly. Insinuated that I was making it up, that something with me when had bad reaction to meds when legitimate side effects. Overbooks to the point that you wait hours after your appt time. Felt she doesn't respect women much. Out patient clinic much better. Refuse to have female doctor after experiences with her.

:( Click to report rating *  12/12/09 3 3 1 Dr Hickey has a very poor attitude .She is confrontive ,and does not appear to want to discuss drug side effects. She acts like it is an affront on her if you have an opinion. She makes you feel so uncomfortable discussing any health issue with her and shrugs it off.The next time she will say `Why did you not tell me these things before`.Visiting her office is an anxious event for me that is why I will be looking for a new doctor.

:) Click to report rating *  10/8/09 5 3 4 My family and I love Dr. Hickey. I'm not sure what people are referring to about moodiness? We're all a bit moody at times. She is quick on referrals, never pushes medication on us and always always always gets my kids in ASAP when they are sick and that is so important as a parent!

:( Click to report rating *  5/12/09 2 2 2 Ditched her!!! As I read the comments I can relate to her being moody and unprofessional. I had a pain and went to the hospital a few times. They did tests, coudln't find anything right away. I went in to see Dr. Hickey a few days later - she didn't believe me and said I needed anti-depressants. 2 days later I was in hospital with internal bleeding, so much for her anti-depressant theory. Tisk tisk - it wasn't in my head...maybe she should go back to school. She makes people feel like they are a bother to her and she is very condesending, can't figure out why when she sucks at her profession!

:) Click to report rating *  2/25/09 5 5 5 My entire family loves her. If I have to put up with a little moodiness to have the best.. no problem. I have friends who can't get into their drs for weeks no matter what... I can call and get in the same day. My sister moved to Nova Scotia and still comes home to see dr. hickey. I brag about her constantly! I hope we never lose her!

:( Click to report rating    1/5/08 2 1 1 Would be interesting to know why she became a doctor when she doesn't know how to relate to or help people without pushing meds on old people especially. If a patient went from wearing size 14 to size 8 Petite...would not that ring a bell? Gives meds for cholesterol to 80+ years old patients...scary. Tells them they have diabetes and to swear off sweets...what more is left of life then? Go with elderly patients...she is not a good doctor.

:( Click to report rating    12/27/07 5 3 1 My family stopped going to Dr. Hickey when I had to take my daughter to the ER for immediate treatment for something that Dr. Hickey was treating quite some time. There is no doubt that she is moody and not personable, but my decision to seek another physican was based on the lack of a simple diagnosis!!!

:( Click to report rating    10/15/07 4 3 1 I was having a surgery in halifax and came down with a weird cough, went to see Dr. Hickey two weeks prior to my surgery, she said just a cold, didn't even listen to my lungs. Went for my pre-op in Halifax, had a severe lung infection, had to take steroids, missed the surgery. It wasn't the first time she misdiagnosed or didn't bother to check me, very non-chalont about things. Not the best bed side manner, will not return, she is not thorough, you could walk in with a serious condition and she will shrug it off. Be very careful!

:( Click to report rating    10/14/07 3 2 1 I must say that at first I thought she was an O.K. Dr.,because basically I went for prescription refills from previous Dr.'s.When I did need her help she was very unprofessional. She made me feel like I was just a bother to her.I was having a severe mensturating problem. Her response was "sometimes these things happen and we just never know why." I ended up switching to a wonderful Dr.,although I now have to drive 2 hours to see him.He decided to find out what was wrong with me,which I thought was what Dr.'s were supposed to do. This past February I had 32(yes,32)fibrous tumors removed and am being carefully monitored.I already have more tumors forming and may have to have a hysterectomy.I am only 35.Had I not found another Dr. I could have bled out and died.My blood count was very low and I needed iron pills and then a transfusion giving me 3 pints of blood.A lot of this could have been different had she just been interested enough to run some tests.

:| Click to report rating    8/14/07 3 3 3 I find she can be helpful at times, and other times she's quick to pass things off or pass the buck. It makes me wonder if all she knows about are how to deal with coughs and colds. Yet she acts insulted if the person knows too much about themselves, or requests tests on their own. She gives me the impression most times that she feels that this job isn't all it was supposed to be ... yet she's stuck here, and somehow it reflects on the patients.

:( Click to report rating    5/17/07 3 1 I have contacted the College of Physicians and Surgeons about her as I have some serious concerns about confidentiality. She used to be my doctor and when I started a new job she actually called my new boss and berated her for hiring me. Apparently she told my boss that she could not attest to my "professional" skills but that my personal problems were questionable. The only way she would know about my personal problems would have been in confidence and in her office. I was lucky - my boss came to me immediately and told me about this because she thought it was inappropriate and unprofessional. I was shocked. I will let the C of P& S deal with her now. Don't trust her!

:) Click to report rating    4/30/07 5 5 I love Dr Hickey. She has been wonderful to me for the entire 18ish years that I have been seeing her. She was wonderful when I had my first baby and remains professional and courteous at every visit. Sometimes she may seem short/blunt but I have never taken it personally. To be perfectly honest, I would not want her job for even a moment as I know that I would be terrible at it. Kudos, Dr Hickey for a job well done always.

:) Click to report rating    4/1/07 4 5 When I first moved to Fredericton in 1990, I discovered that I was pregnant and needed a Dr. I called all the phone numbers in the book and she accepted me. Dr. Hickey has been my physician for 16 years and has never let me or my family down. I couldn't think of a better Dr. I have never found Dr. Hickey to be moody. If I need a specialist, I get a specialist. She has been there for me in good times and bad. She is great with kids and every time I call, Krista always finds a way to fit us in. When my grandson was born in 2005, his head seemed a little big and within a week, we were referred to a pediatrition. The one thing I will say about Dr. Hickey is that she is NOT a pill pusher. You only get the drugs you need...not the drugs you want.

:) Click to report rating    3/28/07 5 5 Dr. H is our family doctor, and we were referred by my obs/gyn. We have been very happy with all aspects of her knowledge and behaviour - she is all business and when you have a sick child that is what I want, not simple small talk. She is caring and helpful and we can usually get an appointment the same day that we call. Krista (the secretary) is friendly and helpful, and we think they make a great team. My 3 and 4 year olds love her and have even named a Barbie doll for her!! We couldn't be happier and we have lived several different places and have had more than 5 other "family doctors" in other places we have lived. In our opinion Dr. H is one of the best doctors we have met, in fact we travel almost two hours to see her since our last move. The Hunters

:) Click to report rating *  3/22/07 5 3 I like her. She is "all business" most times. If you require a referral, it is completed quickly. Downside: Not a very good "bedside manner" and very little explanation. I had to find out at a walk-in clinic what one of my "puffers" was for. Overall very knowledgeable, but forget too much conversation.

:| Click to report rating    3/18/07 1 2 Dr Hickey can be polite and helpful or pretty unhelpful and abrupt. From my experience, it depends upon her mood. She can be very nice one day and next time I visit her I feel like 'a burden' and I should be glad to have 7 minutes of her time regardless of my concerns. She is not very good at explaining results of the tests. Its either good or bad. Never in depth explanation even if you keep asking her. I understand that doctors in NB are overworked. However, maybe a little more emphaty for ALL her patients would produce wonders. We all have different personalities and I think that this is the main problem between Dr Hickey and some of her patients. Going to a doctor is in itself stressful enough, however if, on occassions one has to take medications that will calm you down after a visit to Dr Hickey, it is not OK.It produces resentment and hurt. Having said all that I do think she is a knowlegeable doctor but at times lacks 'patients skills'.

:( Click to report rating    3/17/07 4 1 I shook free of this doctor after she very unprofessionally relayed information to a specialist she referred me to, that had nothing to do with my medical condition (for which the specialist was being consulted) but was instead, defamation of my character. Apparently she had a problem with my personality. If she had diagnosed and handled the problem as a doctor should have, maybe I would still have 2 functioning kidneys. Until this happened I felt fine about this doctor. Getting a doctor is like winning the lottery in this area. Alot of people have to go to the clinic and don't have the continuity of one doctor. This is a problem if you are pregnant (like I was) or you have a serious condition. I was very hurt and disappointed wondering why she would say what she did, totally unrelated to my medical condition and on the record for many hospital workers to read.

:) Click to report rating    3/17/07 4 5 We consider ourselves lucky to have a Dr. at all & very pleased to have Dr H! She is very gentle with the kids, tries to put them at ease, provides a sticker at each visit to make it more fun for them. She always answers our questions and we get in quickly when we need to.

:) Click to report rating    3/5/07 4 5 Dr. Hickey has been my dr since 1990, and I have never had a problem. Always get in quick, and always feel better when I walk out the door. Keep up the good work, girls.

:( Click to report rating    3/2/07 3 1 would not take my dog to this physician. does not inform patients of proper diagnosis so that patient can make informed decisions as to medical options available. there is the old adage, "Dr's bury their mistakes." Perfect fit for Dr Hickey

:( Click to report rating    3/1/07 3 1 as far as i am concerned Dr. Hickey allowed my mother to die. She knew she had lung problems and sent an 85 year old lady to undertake breathing excerises. Mom had a tumor in her lungs or collapsed lung and Dr. Hickey new it, hence mom died from kidney failure. She is a lousey doctor.

:( Click to report rating    2/11/07 1 1 If you are very sick it would be best to go to a walk in clinic as she does not address serious issues.Others have said she is mmody, I would have to say attitude is more like it. Nowadays patients have much more knowledge about health concerns and illnesses than previously. Make sure you go with an elderly relative to all visits to her!

:) Click to report rating    2/2/07 4 5 She is great. Always easy to talk to and is always very concerned for our family. She will fit me in the same day if at all possible. Her secretary, Krista is the best.

:| Click to report rating    1/30/07 3 2 Moody sums it up. Over the years, if I act 'stupid' and 'compliant' I have found her to be more helpful. As long as I am submissive, she'll take more time for me. Fortunately I am not a sickly person, therefore I do not have to see her much.

:) Click to report rating    1/25/07 4 5 Dr. Hickey has been my doctor for years, over 16 years. She is my parents doctor, my doctor and my children's doctor. She has been very help and takes me and my family in at the drop of a hat when we need her. For example my son got pink eye I called and had him in within two hours. Can't get that service at the emergency. And I have always gotten service with a smile from Dr. Hickey. Keep up that great work.

:( Click to report rating    1/15/07 1 1 She really needs to take her job as a people healer seriously. She tends not to be a good listener and doesn't carry through with what she says she will do.

:) Click to report rating    11/30/06 5 5 Dr. Hickey is an excellent doctor. She has always been extremely helpful to myself and my family even taking us in as patients when we were without a doctor. To say that she is moody is not fair by any means. She has always been very polite and friendly with us. Everyone can have bad days and doctors are no different then anyone else in this fact. She's a great doctor....keep up the great work Dr. Hickey!!!
