13/07/13 4 5 5 5 Dr. Shapiro got me into surgery 6 days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is a very kind, caring person, who explained everything to me in layman's terms. He performed the Whipple procedure on me, and was there before surgery to give me comfort, knowing how terrified I was. He was there every morning after surgery to check on me along with his staff of doctors. In my opinion, Dr. James Shapiro is the most caring, professional, wonderful human being I have ever had the privilage of meeting.

12/10/12 5 4 5 5 Dr. Shapiro removed the rt lobe of my liver a few years ago. The bad news was delivered by him in a caring and respectful manner. The office got me in 2 days after my emergency MRI, and he booked my surgery while I was in the office. I was bumped the day before my surgery and was very upset by it, mostly due to a bad case of nerves. He phoned me himself while I was still in pre-admission and explained why. I had my surgery very soon after. Throughout my stay he remained professional and kind. Follow up visits were very successful as well. No complaints from me, I would highly recommend him to anyone with liver problems.  Respond

14/08/12 5 5 5 5 Great doctor - very kind and to the point. He is a very busy man but always had time to explain anything to me, he even called me a week before surgery when I had a small question about it, taking time out of his busy day. My surgery was rebooked several times (the man does emergency and oncall work, so you will be bumped if something more dire comes up), he removed my gall bladder and a pancreatic cyst - ended up being a bigger procedure than expected, but he visted my hospital bed right away to explain the details and always checked up on me when he could. Very happy with the followup as well. The man knows his stuff! He may seem a little rushed, but he has a lot of appointments to get through - and if you ask him anything, he will take the time to answer.  Respond

04/01/12 5 5 5 5 Did my liver transplant. Great surgeon and a nice guy in my experience. Very busy of course, and one must take that into account when rating things like "helpfulness." I found him approachable, respectful and caring. This guy does 12 hour surgeries routinely, in the middle of the night, with no notice. He's not going to have a lot of time for talking, but he saw me several times while I was in hospital.  Respond

13/12/11 5 5 5 5 My husband struggled with a dangerously low platelet count for over 4 years. Every treatment tried was unsuccessful. When he saw Dr. Shipiro to discuss the removal of his spleen it was the very last hope. The surgery was a success and we were both very impressed with Dr. Shipiro. He was kind and compassionate and although busy took time to answer questions and keep us informed of what we needed to know both before and after surgery. We highly recommend him.  Respond

19/11/10 4 5 5 5 Our experience with Dr. Shapiro was wonderful. He has an incredible bedside manner. He was helpful and informative and very patient in answering all of our questions surrounding the potential living donor transplant between our son and myself. I felt as if we were in excellent experienced hands, trusting Dr. Shapiro with both of our lives. Thankfully we have not yet gone to transplant but our positive experience with Dr. Shapiro as we explored our options was memorable and noteworthy.  Respond

28/07/10 5 4 5 5 I was sent to see Dr. Shapiro by my family doctor when I had a large Gallstone. Unfortunately when the letter was sent to his office he was on holidays and then booked full of surgeries, but I was able to see him within about a month or so. He was very professional, and yes, he was quite quick with his answers, however I didn't feel that he wanted me out of his office or anything, he was happy to answer all questions I had. I was put on a waiting list for short notice required and was in for my surgery after about 2 or 3 weeks. My surgery was schedueled to be first thing, however he had a emergency surgery which bumped me back, however he did stay very late in the day to ensure all of his surgeries were completed, instead of re scheduling. I was a very nervous patient, and he was great, came to see me before my surgery and re assure me as well as after the surgery he let me know all was well. The staff at the hosiptal is phenomenal and his assistant Sherri, in the office is great too.  Respond

02/06/10 3 3 1 5 All of the above comments are correct. My husband has been under the care of Dr. Shapiro for weeks now. At first he was very helpful, informative and considerate, but as the weeks have stretched on, he has become more & more difficult to talk to. He recently made a major change in my husband's treatment without even informing my husband, much less explaining or getting permission. When I found out, I tried to get an explanation and he made a couple of snide, uninformative comments and that was the end of the conversation. Luckily I was able to guess what was going on and my husband's nurse confirmed my suspicion.  Respond

07/05/10 5 4 5 5 My family Dr. made an appt. for me to see Dr. Shapiro about my gallstones. I was in to see him within 2 weeks and now surgery is scheduled. I had alot of questions and he was very patient; and took my concerns seriously. I did not feel at all rushed and was very impressed with his personal manner. I feel very comfortable knowing he is performing my surgery.  Respond

He is a very caring, compassionate man. He listened to me, and treated me with respect. I can still vividly remember him sitting on my bed in the ICU unit post transplant and reassuring me that I would be all right. He is an excellent surgeon,a very intelligent man, and a wonderful, caring Dr.  Respond
