21/01/13 5 5 5 5 I was referred to Dr Jenken after suffering with what I was told by my old family Dr was hemerroids for 6 years. My new family Dr sent me for a sigmoidoscopy which detected a cancerous tumor in my lower bowel. Not only did Dr Jenken take the time to explain everything to me and my husband, he assured all of us that this was operable and very treatable. Finding this out after losing my brother earlier in the year was almost more than my family could deal with. Dr Jenken took the time to call my mom and husband immediately after the surgery to let them know things had gone well. Toni was amzing through it all. My father was very sceptical at first but Dr Jenken took the time to explain thisngs to him as well. I now have a permanent colostomy and am free of pain. I am back at work and thanks to Dr Jenken I will be here in 25 years to kiss my grandson as I told him I would do at our first meeting. Thank you and god Bless you both.  Respond

13/08/12 1 5 5 5 Dr Jenkens is currently treating my mother for cancer and going to perform a colostomy. He has been wonderful so with my mother, and am glad to have him doing her surgery. However his secretary, Tony is quite rude, and has no right to have this tone to people dealing with cancer, it is difficult enough. Only one other small complaint, It is difficult to get a hold of Dr Jenkens as there is no voice message system at his office, if you have concerns or questions about your case or appointments, and since Tony is very difficult to speak with. So all in all, it's the Dr that counts, but he has a pit bull answering his phones (only M-T during 9-11 am).  Respond

03/05/12 5 5 5 5 From my experience, Dr Jenken is the most caring colorectal surgeon (in comparison to other colorectal surgeon that I had seen). He came to see me in the morning and he performed my surgery during after hour even though he was not on-call. He is available (over the phone) on weekend and most importantly, he actually did the procedure himself instead of outsourcing it to the surgical resident. I prefer experienced surgeon to work on me instead of someone who is in-training or a newly certified.  Respond

17/04/12 5 5 5 5 Dr Jenkins is an amazing surgeon! And Toni is amazing in the office! Going into his office I was so wound up and scared and he totally calmed all of my fears. He answered all questions, made sure I was aware of how everything would play out and assured me that I would be fine. And he was right....I am now after the surgery just fine! Thank you Dr Jenkin!  Respond

15/02/12 5 5 5 5 Dr Jenken is amazing. He recently operated on my mother. For us this was a procedure that we knew nothing about and I can honeastly say we all were really nervous ehading into it. Dr Jenken made each of us, especially my mom feel at ease regarding the surgery. His care for her before, during and after was outstanding and with his help before we knew it she was back to normal. He was very knowledgeable and was able and willing to answer all of the questions we had. He is phenominal and I wouldnt recommend anyone else.  Respond

14/07/11 5 5 5 5 Dr Jenken operated on my wife recently to remove her colon. The surgery went extremely well and his thorough follow up care during her hospital stay was very much appreciated. Although he is a very busy man, he still made time to answer all our questions and to explain what lay ahead for us. Calgary is very lucky to have such a great surgeon in their city. Thank you Dr Jenken!!!!!  Respond

18/02/11 5 5 5 5 Saved my life (I mean this - saved my life!) Was caring (but blunt honest) and I needed honesty. I often give thanks that Dr. Jenken (and his office assistant Toni) were there. They got me through a very difficult time and I am alive to talk about it. Very knowledgeable and skilled and he has made the choice to share this skill with those of us who need it.  Respond

12/08/10 5 5 5 5 Dr Jenkin is simply the BEST. My surgery and follow up have been better than I could have imagined. He even called me at home on Christmas eve to explain the pathology report with me. Toni, in his office, is one of the best and most efficient people I have ever met - she makes things "happen" in an amazing way. They make an incredible team ... and I am so lucky to have them as part of my medical team.  Respond

17/12/09 5 5 5 5 He saved my life!,is an incredible human being, the best of the best, truly I say to you we are all here for a reason, some more gifted than others and more blessed with greater talent and intellect, with a humblness and grace beyond all measure, this is Daryl Jenken.God truly works through his hands, and lives through him to help so many, because he can.To him I owe my life, and not only got my life back, but am better than I ever have been, its incredible, and truly a miracle the best shape of my life.I was air ambulanced to him 5 years ago when he accepted me as his patient. While many top end doctors carry themselves with an ego,and such self importance,I say to you Daryl Jenken carries himself in a way we could all wish to carry ourselves. Not who he is but what he does and how he conducts himself is what defines him. He's the best. 18/03/09 5 5 4 5 I just had surgery (small bowel resection) 2 weeks ago. Dr.Jenken is the best colon surgeon out there. If he is your surgeon, you are in good hands. The hospital staff rave about what an excellent doctor he is....they are right! He deserves your trust and respect.  Respond

25/02/09 4 5 5 5 He saved my life. Wish I could have had surgery earlier but that had to do with the availability of OR suites. He's very busy because of the shortage of doctors. Those things are out of his control. The surgery went very well and the scarring was very minimal..vain as I am. He's very respected among the people at the hospital. I am so glad that I was referred to him.  Respond

16/06/08 5 4 5 5 I received my surgery in February of 2008. I had my large colon removed along with an ileostomy. Dr. Jenken is the best surgeon ever. I admire him, and trust him completely. I have had 2 other surgeries since then due to a vaginal/rectal fistula. I should have my ileostomy closure at the beginning of August/08 and I will have Dr. Jenken do the surgery. You are in good hands with him. Thank you Dr. Jenken.......Marlene Lalonde  Respond

29/05/08 5 4 5 4 I had Ulcerative Colitis for 4 years in my 20s. I was failing standard therapies including immunomodulators, and clinical trials. The only drug that worked were steroids. It became clear I had to undergo elective surgery. I chose to undergo a total proctolectomy with end ileostomy. Because I was moving from another province I had the choice of who to be referred to. After some research (there are not that many rectal surgeons in Calgary) I chose Dr. Jenken. He was very clear , knowledgeable, respectful and candid. If he does not know something, he will tell you so. Surgery went well in 2002. A second revision surgery had to be done three years later, it too went well. He is well respected among his peers and his nursing staff.  Respond

03/03/08 4 5 5 5 I was a young person is a desperate, desperate situation. I was in my early 20's and because it took doctors/specialists SO LONG to properly fix my IBS, or whatever it was, a BAD bug, etc, but because I want to washroom 20+ times a day for ab out 2 yrs, while trying to go to university and work. To make a long story short = end result was Complete Rectal Prolapse. I was initally sent to another ColoRectal Surgeon in calgary, I forget his name but will find it and rate him too! but his office is some old house/mansion down off of downtown. After 3 MAJOR SCREW SURGERIES and after he finally admitted he wasn't good enough to fix it. I bit my tongue and held back not smashing him to peices..... I DEMANDED he send me to Dr. Jenkins. The second I walked into his office, I knew I was saved. Everything was different, the office, the staff, the people, and of course the doctor and the surgery/treatment. I truely owe my life to Dr. Jenkins, he is an amazing doctor/surgeon who actually cares!  See Responses

08/02/08 5 4 5 2 My mom had colon cancer, the tests also showed a spot on her liver, Dr. Jenken's said that the spot was not cancerous, it was, she died a few 9 months after her colon surgery once the liver cancer grew. Dr. Jenkens operated twice on my mom - once to do a resection and the next time to do a full colostemy when the resection failed. I think that she suffered a lot, things were missed and a colostemy should have been preformed first instead of trying a resection. My mom just wanted anything that would get the cancer out of her...she was not vain and did not care about having a bag. Despite this, Dr. Jenkens was very kind to my mom and his office staff were remarkable people that endeared themselves to my mom.  See Responses
