5/18/13 5 4 5 5 I saw Dr. Barankin for a few different issues over the past few years. He's helped me a great deal with my psoriasis and a bit of adult acne, and he has also done some Botox for me to try and improve my deep frown lines. Overall Ive been really pleased with the results. He is always so nice and understanding, and takes time to explain things. He's not pushy at all, and seems to truly care about his patients. His clinic is top notch with really nice staff, and they actually answer the phones and are helpful. Its also the nicest medical or other clinic I have ever seen in my life. He does occasionally run a few minutes behind though which is not unusual for a doctor. I definitely recommend him and have done so to my friends and family who all seem pleased with him and Toronto dermatology centre.  Respond

3/20/13 1 1 2 2 They treat you like a number, don't care about their patients at all. I have never been treated so rudely. Would never go back. It is all about the money to them and it is painfully obvious.  Respond

12/12/12 3 1 1 1 Avoid this dermatologist. He is rude and non caring. I can only assume the good ratings come from his staff or family.I know enough doctors to be able to tell a bad apple. He either has a personality disorder or is very very unhappy with his job and is just there to make some money. You feel worse after seeing him. Save your precious time and see someone else. I think he would feel better about his job if he actually talks to his patients, looks them in the eye, show some interest and spend an extra 30 seconds with each one.  Respond

10/18/12 5 4 5 5 The last rating sounds quite peculiar (I presume this person has anger issues and doesn't get along with many people) considering what a wonderful experience I had seeing Dr. Barankin for a few issues. He was only 3-4 minutes late, very friendly and generous with his time, and answered all my questions. He removed a couple of dangerous moles and pre-cancers, and there is hardly a mark left. I saw him again recently and he did some cosmetic work for me which also went smoothly and the results are quite impressive. His office runs well, from the phones to the staff, to the nice waiting room. This is the kind of place where anyone with a medical or cosmetic skin problem would likely get the best care for their skin.  Respond

9/25/12 2 4 1 1 Dr Barankin's 'medical' care and advice is a complete waste of time. Was not helpful. Wanted to charge me for a simple procedure that could have been performed on the spot, and that I have received in the past (without any fee) from other doctors. (I received a new referral from my family doctor to Dr Barankin after not having visited a dermatologist for several years). His only concern is with earning dollars from cosmetic clients, and not at all concerned with providing needed dermatological care for actual medical conditions - he will try to charge you for anything and everything. Do not bother seeing this doctor.  See Responses

9/21/12 5 4 5 5 I saw Dr. Barankin about a few moles and skin tags. His staff and facility are amazing. Even though the place was hopping, I was seen relatively on time; as a lawyer and with my experience with my family and other doctors, I know it is annoying having to wait, but at the same time cannot expect the previous client/patient to be shuttled out the door and cut off just so the next client/patient isn't peeved, and that can add up through out the day. I was very happy with the results and Dr.Barankin aswered all my questions(such as cancer risks,etc.). He will refute ideas he does not agree with nor will he give you a treatment or a prescription if you think you need one and he doesn't. And he doesn't beat around the bush or have 20 minutes to make small, irellevant small talk(plus patients are waiting, remember?) or listen to your self diagnosis that you found on the internet or "some friend said". If that comes across as insensitive, grow a thicker skin. I wouldn't go elsewhere.  Respond

7/31/12 5 5 5 5 I have been receiving Botox and a few other cosmetic procedures from Dr. Benjamin Barankin for the past few years. He is a real artisan, an expert, and a very keen eye for beauty. More importantly, he is incredibly honest and will tell you if something is needed or not. There were times where I asked about a cosmetic service and he told me not to bother because either the technology wasn't up to speed or that I didn't need it yet - we all need someone like that in our lives!. I love his new office and his staff are always so accommodating. I have heard from a few doctors that he is very accomplished and respected, apparently considered to be one of the best in Canada…I'm not surprised.  See Responses

7/16/12 4 5 5 5 I was referred to Dr. Barankin for a rash which actually cleared up before he was able to see it. He was kind enough to discuss the rash and what it likely would have been caused by. He also offered to do a full skin exam and he detected several dangerous moles which I had removed. There is hardly any mark from his biopsies, and he was very helpful and explained everything to me. His office is absolutely stunning and his staff are very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was just a pleasure and I would recommend it to anyone.  See Responses

3/17/12 5 4 5 5 I've had rosacea forever and Dr. Barankin is the only person who has really been able to clear up my skin. He has given me several terrific products to use and I've done some laser as well, and it has all made a major improvement in my complexion, and my friends and husband are very impressed, as am I. He's very knowledgeable and takes his time to really explain everything in a simple way, and always very happy and friendly to me and my daughter.  Respond

3/12/12 4 4 5 5 Dr Barankin is a very competent dermatologist. I saw him a few weeks ago with a pretty nasty skin problem. He examined me very carefully and studied my history. I was pretty nervous and upset about the whole thing but he assured me there was nothing to worry about. So I was rather relieved after my appointment. Before ending the consultation dr Barankin actually took the time to explain the nature of my condition and suggested a treatment course. After about 20 days of medication and another appointment all nasty symptoms were gone. I have a chronic skin condition and have seen many dermatologists across Canada. Dr Barankin is definitely one of the best. Besides, he is very comforting and easy to deal with and overall, nice to be around.  Respond

10/3/11 2 3 1 1 Danger, Danger, Danger!!! Do NOT see this doctor!!!! I am a 43 year old male with fair skin and freckles who was referred to this Dermatologist for a new black mark on my forehead in Jan 2011..saw him in March…told it was nothing (Charged me for a cosmetic treatment to it)…I returned a month later for another “treatment” and paid more to him. Finally in June he biopsied the black mark…it was a malignant melanoma. It was quickly removed...but to late now. It was deep and has reached the blood supply and has spread. I am now a cancer patient at Princess Margaret waiting for invasive surgery to my forehead, face and neck to remove my lymph nodes on the side of my face. If this incompetent doctor had properly biopsied the black mark back in March when I first presented to him he could have saved my life…now I my die from him neglect!! Do not see Dr. Barankin, do not let your family see him, and do not let your friends see him!!! Learn from my mistake and protect yourself he is more interested in your money then your health!!  Respond

9/9/11 2 5 3 3 Dr Barankin is obviously smart and friendly. He listens to your concerns as long as you respect him; his bedside manner is quite good indeed. He always comes on time and his staff are okay. However, when it comes to the business side of the story, he might not give you the best advice in the name of money. When money is involved (which means that the condition can be treated by different treatments, and the treatments might not be covered by government), you should think twice before making any decision. Like many other dermatologists, Dr Barankin is a doctor, but also a businessman. It is just the sad reality. If possible, you should try to consult more than one dermatologist. To conclude, for medical concerns (that does not involve money), Dr Barankin is a more than decent doctor. But when money is involved, you should become a smart consumer (instead of a patient). Btw, he is not a wheeler-dealer like business; he has good strategies.  Respond

9/4/11 5 4 4 5 When I went to see him, I got the impression that he is one of the more knowledgeable in his field that I ever encountered. Keeps himself updated on all the latest developments in medicine in general and dermatology in particular. It took him a couple basic procedures to diagnose my daughter’s condition (“absolutely nothing to worry about”) and suggest treatment. Needless to say, we were satisfied with his services and I have been recommending Dr Barankin to my friends ever since.

8/26/11 5 5 5 5 I am Dr. Barankin's patient for some time and I'd have to say I have gotten to know him in various contexts, both medical and cosmetic. There is no doubt that he is an amazingly astute and perceptive dermatologist as he has helped me with several complex skin problems, and I have had some cosmetic work done too with fabulous results. He's very gentle and explains everything, and I never felt that he was pushing me to do anything, just giving me all the options and discussing potential side effects. I've spoken to a few people in the waiting area in the past and all speak glowingly of his demeanor and skills. His new office is simply amazing, and his staff are super nice too. Very very highly recommended.  Respond

4/17/11 3 2 1 1 Horrible, horrible, horrible! I had two very related skin problems, and he said: we can only discuss one issue per meeting! which one do you choose, A or B?!! I said, (fine), A. Once I opened my mouth, he interrupted me and said: you have three options for this. Medication A, B, or C. which one do you choose? I realized that he is a jerk, money hungry. He does not want to even listen to my med history. I said, C. He wrote it and said it was nice to meet you! bye ! overall 2 and half minutes. I already had googled my skin issue and found a lot lot more information. In fact there is more information in answers.yahoo.com, where kids post their Questions & Answers!!! unbelievable. he just wants to bill you/your insurance company. Stay away from this person. The office was generally not crowded, but I waited for 30 minutes nevertheless. BTW, I was refereed to Dr. Freiman, his co-worker, but he came to see me.  See Responses

4/9/11 4 5 1 1 While Dr.Barankin is clearly friendly,he has established this beautiful clinic for the superficial, with money to spend! I was sent to him blindly by my GP,(not her fault),to address a serious concern noticed by my lung specialist. It became very clear after my appt with this doc,why I got in so quickly. Once I started to answer his question,"So,what's going on?",his manner changed. Without even looking at the area of concern,he gave me a dx? He refused to listen to my medical history;barely read a report from the specialist asking for an investigation to check/rule out 2 serious conditions;and almost had to be coaxed to look at the area of concern. In under 10 min I was back in the waiting room being handed 2 scripts and given no follow-up appt. These 2 drugs have very serious se's & potential interactions with other drugs, and he certainly did not have enough info on me to prescribe them. STAY AWAY from this Dr/Drug pusher if you have real medical concerns! Waste of my time!!!!  See Responses

7/16/10 5 5 5 5 I have been a patient of Dr. Benjamin Barankin for some time now and thought I would share my experiences with you all. Dr. Barankin must be one of the kindest and most thoughtful gentleman physicians out there in practice as he has always taken great care of me and much of my family, always making sure to ask how my health and personal life are, not just rushing into the problem at hand. He always seems to know what the problem is with my skin and his prescriptions always do the trick in clearing up my problems quickly. 2/18/10 3 5 3 3 This was my first time to see a dermo and I was disappointed. He did not asses my skin or even look at it. He only addressed my concerns by giving me a pamphlet and some prescriptions. The whole thing felt rushed and since I did not have a serious skin issue he could care less. I always thought that dermo's would ask you questions like what do you use on your face? what products do you use? He did not ask a single question nor did he check me for any weird moles or skin marks that I may not notice. All in all complete waste of time and I will be calling my doctor to refer me to someone else. He answered all my questions and put me on some creams and pills which after 3 weeks have almost cleared up my problem. I am so thankful to Dr. Barankin. 9/23/09 3 3 1 1 DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!! He gave me incorrect information and OVERCHARGED. I was left with a SCAR from a procedure that Dr. Barankin did. When I had asked Dr. Barankin if it could scar, he said no. He charged me $350 for the first treatment he tried. After the scar I went to a new doctor because I no longer trusted Dr. Barankin since he told me it wouldn't scar. It is common knowledge that particular treatment does have a change of scarring as I now know from the internet and 2 other doctors. After my new doctor treated me I asked how much it would be--he said he didn't charge for doing that. When I told him that Dr. Barankin had charged me $350 for it, his jaw dropped and he gasped. In total Dr. Barankin ripped me off for almost $1000 for what this doctor is doing for free. You shouldn't pay more than $100 for what he charged me $350 for.  See Responses
