:( Click to report rating *  9/16/09 1 2 1 Dr. Landy insisted I purchase a mouth piece to prevent receding gums. The mouth peice cost $500. Then when my husband went to see him, he insisted he purchase a mouth piece to prevent TMG (he totally pushed it to everyone!). Anyway, I had a cavity filled (porcelain inlay) and I had a lot of pain afterward. After two weeks of discomfort and a failed attempt to get a prompt appointment to see Dr. Landy, I went to anoter dentist, they found a part of the gauze they used during the procedure had not been removed. In addtion to mediocore work, the cost was very high. A year later, why I'm writing the review, my filling Dr. Landy did on my tooth came out while flossing. Just horrible.

:( Click to report rating *  8/25/09 1 2 1 I had a horrible experience with this dentist. The hygienist polished my teeth before removing the plaque which I thought was strange. I now know the reason Dr. Landy does this is so they can charge patients $30 for a fluoride "painting" treatment at the end of the visit. Of course I was not told that this would cost $30 and was not covered by my insurance. Second, Dr. Landy was unprofessional, hyper, anxious, and I feel like he used scare tactics to get me to buy a night guard for grinding among other procedures. I take outstanding care of my teeth, and I left his office feeling horrible. He told me because I hadn't had a cleaning in while, he would need to do a special procedure to get plaque from under the gums - but he failed to tell me this was $85 and not covered by my insurance. I feel like Dr. Landy cares more about making money than my oral health. He spent about 1 minute removing plaque, 10 seconds looking at my x-rays, and didn't check for cavities. The worst!

:( Click to report rating    8/21/09 3 1 1 Dr. Landy is cruel, unprofessional and has terrible chair side manners. He took the back of his instrument and hit my teeth with it after he couldn't find out what was wrong. It was aggressive, mean and spiteful. I have since found a dentist who told me I have a huge crack in my teeth in the exact same spot where Landy hit me. When I left Landy's chair, I asked his front desk person if it is normal for a dentist to take the back of his instrument and hit someone in the mouth and then ask them, "Did THAT hurt?" Everytime I think about him and now about the hundreds of dollars I have to spend to get my teeth fixed, I feel just awful that people like him can still practice. I hated the experience, I have seen him and the other dentist in his office, Dr.Harris and they are both cruel, bitter people. I wish they could shut down that office. I hope landy's practice comes to an end is held accountable for the years of cruelty, spitefulness and trauma he has caused to so many.

:( Click to report rating    8/4/09 3 2 1 I have ceased going to Dr Landy for many reasons. First, his demeanor is off-putting and he did not inform me of the procedures he performed. Like every other commenter, he recommended a mouth gaurd for night, which was not covered by insurance and after reading other reviews I now regret purchasing. It has also broken which further angers me. The final issue that caused me to search for another dentist was his failure to fill a cavity multiple times. After drilling and inserting the filling, that night the filling came out of the tooth. He then refilled the tooth the following day, Friday. However, the filling again fell out, and I had to wait the entire weekend until it could be filled again which finally stayed in, although I was in great discomfort. Since then my new dentist has even replaced that filling becuse it has continued to be problematic. I would not recommend Dr. Landy because of his unwillingness to inform clients during procedures and shoddy dental work.

:( Click to report rating *  4/20/09 4 4 1 I am going to call Aetna and request that they take him off their plan. No wonder he was the only dentist with availability. Depending on his "cleaning" inspection might have harmed the health of my teeth. He did not even check for cavities with the scrapper/hook by pressing on the top surface of the teeth and he thought it was crazy that I would ask for it even though every dentist I have ever seen does it. The whole visit was a salespitch and a laptop playing a DVD of advertisements pushed into my face during the cleaning. He asked me no questions unless it was trying to sell the $43 rinse or the UV oral cancer test. I think most dentists would be embarrassed that his practice is board certified. Instead of bettering his practices, he apparently chose to write fake reviews on this website and others, that are very defensive and say things that no normal person would ever right unless the person was a PR man, family member, close friend or Landy himself.

:) Click to report rating *  11/11/08 5 5 5 I totally agree with the last writer. Dr Landy is truely a gentleman and a professional, whose standards are the highest, and someone who will not compromise his professional judgment for an individual seeking a freebie. On the other hand, he will often times do what is right and appropriate for a patient and then charge a fraction of his regular fee, if the patient can truly not afford treatment otherwise. His integrity is that high! He is beyond reproach and his 30 years of practice in the Washington area, in a practice as sucessful as his, is testimony to that. He changed my mouth from a disaster zone to a picture of health, and I can now finally smile after years of avoiding the mirror or camera. THANK YOU DR LANDY!!

:) Click to report rating    10/30/08 5 5 5 Having read some of the recent reviews, I can tell that those individuals that have anything crtical to say about Dr Land'y or his practice are not interested in quality dentistry, just cheap, inferior treatment. Dr Landy is not only a gentleman, a family man, but he is the most dedicated professional and most talented and knowledgable dentist that I have ever been to. He discovered issues with my teeth and gums and jaw that have been totally misdiagnosed in the past by others. He has saved my teeth and has helped me avoid costly, unnecessary gum surgeries and all kinds of dental and health related complications. I cannot tell you how shallow those are that expect to see a dentist and walk out not owing a penny. They are typically those search for handouts and are not interested in true quality dentistry, and they have no business cirticizing a professional like Dr Landy who is interested soley in the welfare and health of his patients. Anyone who says otherwise is ignorant!

:( Click to report rating    10/26/08 2 3 1 This dentist is DISHONEST and deceptive but I really only found this out AFTER I was OVERBILLED on 5 occasions! The "estimates" he quoted me for crowns averaged around 1200 per tooth but ended up costing OVER 2000 bucks per tooth! He nickle-dimed me for services such as "temp-crown" (150), AND these fees were higher EVERY time by around 10% a new bill was produced...EMAIL me if you have ANY questions at matthew1964 at comcast dot net. Steer VERY VERY clear of this A-hole!!!

:( Click to report rating    10/1/08 1 3 1 Anyone who has ever had a good trustworthy dentist knows very quickly that Dr. Landy is in the business of sales, not dental care. Too many things wrong about our visit to list! I had extra insurance while my wife only had basic. I had 8 x-rays, she had the basic two. (He didn't even look at or discuss them with us.) He doesn't practice informed consent: failing to discuss procedures and their costs before doing them. After saying we both needed Full-Mouth Debridements (not covered for my wife, we found later) the assistant whispered to my wife, "Don't let him talk you into anything else." He doesn't have certified hygenists, just amateur "assistants" that he's trained. He stopped short my initial cleaning to do the FMD, handed me some special $40 mouth wash and pushed us out the door (said to come back in 4 mos, not 6!). He billed my insurances in the wrong order (i.e. fraud) to maximize his payment. I didn't buy his mouthwash & our teeth didn't feel clean. We'll never be back.

:| Click to report rating    8/29/08 3 4 3 After reading everyone's comments, I am going to change Dentist. Dr. Landy worked on my teeth once and it felt like he was a car salesman trying to peddle this that and the other thing. He told me he needed to do a deep cleaning, but he didn't tell me about the extra $200 bucks I would be charged at check out. He also told me I should do a gum scaling, and thank goodness he intervened in time to save my teeth. My last dentist took care of Ms. Universe's teeth and is highly selective of who she takes on as clients. Now, I just get dental work done whenever I am visiting family in California.

:( Click to report rating    8/25/08 3 3 1 I would not recommend Dr. Landy. I went in for a routine cleaning and felt like he was trying to sell unnecessary treatments and procedures. Like the other commentators, I was told that I needed a mouth guard for teeth grinding. When I told him that I already had a mouth guard, he said that he found that hard to believe—interesting response. I do not recommend Dr. Landy and will not be returning for another procedure.

:) Click to report rating    8/11/08 5 4 5 Dr Landy and his staff are extremely pleasant, very helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. His diagnosis was right on target and I finally have found relief of my dental problems after years of seeing dentists who did not help me much at all. I would highly recommend Dr Landy for his expertise, knowledge and personality. He is by far the best dentist I have come across and his staff is truly wonderful and extremely helpful as far as reducing my out of pocket expenses. Again, other than a slight wait of about fifteen minutes for my appointment, Dr Landy's service was superior and far surpassed my expectations. I have always been somewhat fearful of visiting the dentist. That fear has now completely evaporated, since my visit was pleasant, not at all uncomfortable and most importantly I have complete confidence in Dr Landy's knowledge and excellent skills.

:| Click to report rating    7/2/08 3 3 3 I saw Dr. Harris. The staff are very nice, and Dr. Harris is very nice. But what other posters have said is really true: there's something about that office that leaves you feeling, um, less than cared for. I can reiterate the unsatisfying qualities: the televisions, no presentation of floss and a new toothbrush (am I expecting too much?), the brisk "cleaning", and the hard-sell of the mouth cancer detection regardless of whether you are a smoker or not. I cannot recommend the services.

:) Click to report rating    6/25/08 2 5 4 I did not mind the dentist as much as he seemed knowledgeable, genuine. Of course, he recommended a mouth guard and when he quickly came to realize that I was not going to spend the money, he did offer some alternatives. I only went in for a cleaning and it sucked! The hygenist was actually WATCHING THE TV the whole time and did a very poor job. This is why I am not going back. Plus, the office is pretty old and I got the feeling that they did not sanitize everything (like the guard they put in your mouth for the x-ray). I would say this office is not worth it if you are just going for a cleaning.

:( Click to report rating    5/27/08 1 1 1 I went to see Dr. Landy for a regular cleaning. He, of course, suggested that I get a mouth guard which my insurance would not cover, even though I have never had any pain in my jaw and no other dentist has ever mentioned that I exhibit signs of grinding. He also suggested that I have my gums scaled, which I know from my mother is a very painful experience. And, of course it would not have been covered by my insurance company. I thankfully declined. I paid in cash at the end of my visit, was not given a receipt, and have now been sent a bill! Apparently his staff is pocketing money! The one time I don't get a receipt for something, this is what happens!

:| Click to report rating    5/19/08 3 3 3 I have been going to Dr. Landy since my previous dentist retired about 1999. Dr. Landy is not the most communicative dentist, but I don't hold that against him. Like everyone else I was told I needed a night guard (MORA), but believe it has been helpful. Because of my personal dental hygiene, he told me I only needed to see him once a year. So I don't think he was overselling anything. His staff has changed from the original staff I encountered. One hygienist was very rough, but luckily she is now gone. The current receptionist is also an improvement. Dr. Landy gained a partner a couple of years ago who is much more communicative. I find the office location convenient.

:( Click to report rating    1/31/08 2 3 1 My experience with Dr. Landy was very similar to that of several other commentors. He diagnosed me with bruxism and made a night guard to keep me from grinding my teeth. (Both dentists I've had since had not considered my occasional teeth-grinding a significant problem.) Dr. Landy did not clearly explain to me that I might (and did) end up paying for the several-hundred-dollar contraption out of pocket. He also insisted on more-frequent cleanings than my insurance would pay for, requiring me to pay out of pocket. My dental health and hygiene is very good, so I don't think these cleanings were necessary; my next dentist also told me they weren't. In sum, I feel Dr. Landy 'sold' me unneeded dental care and didn't warn me in advance that my insurance wouldn't cover the cost, even though he probably knew that it wouldn't. I ended our year-and-a-half-long patient-doctor relationship greatly disappointed in him.

:| Click to report rating    1/9/08 5 5 3 Staff was very friendly and helpful, but I was really put off by Dr. Landy's chairside manner. He was curt and spoke to me like I was an idiot, even after I told him my mother was an orthodontist and I was used to dental visits and work. He told me I grind my teeth and that I needed to get a bruxism appliance. Then he cleaned my teeth with a really painful procedure that felt like hot needles in my gums - never once did he explain what he was doing or why. He told me I needed four fillings and that his office would send me a treatment plan right away - it's four months later and four confused phone calls later, and they've still not sent the plan. I was very unhappy with Dr. Landy and am looking for a new dentist who will treat me with respect and thoughtfulness. His staff was very kind though - what a waste of great staff.

:( Click to report rating *  10/12/07 2 2 1 I went to Dr. Landy for a regular cleaning and without my consent was subjected to something else which was more painful. He also advised that I suffer from bruxism (that I clench my teeth while I'm asleep) and tried to get me to buy expensive equipment (over $500). I declined since I knew this was not true--since my spouse advised me that I sleep with my mouth wide open. My gums were bleeding for several days after and I've been hesistant to go to a dentist since.

:) Click to report rating    3/19/07 5 5 Dr. Landy is a fixture in this community. I have been seeing him for over twenty years. I have sent my parents to see him, and he has also taken care of all my kids, from the time they got their first teeth, through college. Everyone I know who has ever seen Dr. Landy has only positive things to say about him. He is very thorough, highly skilled, knowledgable and extremely pleasant. He did several crowns for me and my elderly parents, add we are all extremely pleased. My kids, having seen Dr. Landy all their lives, have never had a cavity, because of his wonderful care and dental hygiene instruction. Dr. Landy just finished placing Lumineers on my front teeth and I get compliments all the time from friends and family. His skills are unrivaled and his professional demeanor truly makes Dr. Landy a wonderful asset to this community. Anyone who is looking for a new dentist should pay him a visit immediately. He uses only the most modern technology and techniques. He is the best!

:) Click to report rating    3/13/07 5 5 Extremely Knowlegable, Gentle! I have seen several dentists over many years due to my gums, which kept receeding even though my hygiene was excellent. My periodontist did several gum surgeries and monitored my dental health, yet after several years the gum levels kept dropping. About 7 years ago I was referred to Dr. Landy by several coworkers who couldn't say enough good things about Dr. Landy and his staff. Upon seeing him, he immediately noticed my receeding gums and took a thorough history. As it turns out, my teeth exhibited wear patterns that he identified with subconcious clenching. He also noticed a small crackling sound in my jaw joint (TMJ). He explained to me that my gum recession and sensitive roots were associated with the clenching. He recommended a device which I wear at night and thankfully, after so many years of failed treatment, I have not had any more gum recession since seeing Dr. Landy. I truly feel he has saved my teeth and I can't recommend him highly enough.

:) Click to report rating    2/16/07 5 5 EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT. That's all I can say (and I'm scared too death of Dentists). I saw Dr. Harris - I'm impressed, what I thought was going to be a nighmare, turned out to be a little short of ouch, both physically and financially. Thank you Dr. Harris.

:( Click to report rating    2/11/07 1 2 I went to Dr. Landy twice (Summer 2005, Fall 2006) and waited over 45 mintues each time. Everyone I know who has gone to him ended up "needing" a $450 night guard. The one "cleaning" i had lasted less than 5 minutes.

:( Click to report rating    1/24/07 2 2 I went to Dr. Landy when a piece of my filling chipped. I had been to him before for a cleaning and upon looking my teeth he made an "observation" that I grind my teeth and suggested that all of my fillings be replaced with porceline overlay inlays, which are not completely covered by insurance and would cost me $600 out of pocket. Of course I declined the suggestion. Any ways, when I came back to him to fix the filling, I got a little nervous at the sight of the needle and made conversation for a minute. I simply asked him about the overlay in lay. At the end of the procedure, he told me he was putting in a "temporary filling". I asked why it was temporary being that It just needed more filling to cover the chipped area. He told me because I told him I wanted the overlay inlay. I could not believe that he started the process just as a result of me asking a question. I was told that I would have to pay the $600 dollars. I told him that he hadn't communicated to me what he was doing.

:( Click to report rating    1/12/07 2 2 Wow, its facinating reading these reviews. I use to see Landy but stopped two years ago- he requested that I buy a $500 night guard, not covered by insurance- which I could not afford (I was a student at the time) and then cleaned all my teeth using dental floss. It was extremelly painful, I told him so, but he kept at it. My gums throbbed for two days after that, I split blood for quite awhile, and have NEVER floosed my teeth like that before. Yep, you can see why I stopped going... also, his receptionist was very rude, not a good choice.

:( Click to report rating    12/26/06 1 1 The appointment for cleaning at 9am started one hour late, "because their equipment was being serviced." Dr. Landy recommended jaw surgery saying I was too far gone for a nightguard. (I have no pain and had not asked about TMJ or anything). Amazingly, he had a printed brochure about the procedure right at his fingertips. I am looking for a new dentist.

:( Click to report rating    12/1/06 3 1 Dr. Landy wanted to fit me for a night guard, saying I ground my teeth. Not covered by insurance. I later found out from people I know that went to Dr. Landy that he wanted 11 out of 11 people to use night guards - not statistically possible. I stopped using him because of this, not to mention the painful laser cleaning technique.

:( Click to report rating    9/25/06 2 1 Dr. Landy asked patients to sign a document which purports to provide him with the ability to perform any procedure he deems appropriate (without consultation with the patient) and that the patient is expected to pay the amount. My spouse and I went to see him and were subjected to a painful periodontic sonic cleaning when we were expecting just a regular cleaning. He then tried to charge each of us about $300 for the procedure. A regular clearing was covered completely by our insurance. Money aside, we did not find him helpful as our dental health was worsened--our gums were bleeding for a week after the procedure (we weren't experiencing problems before coming in).
