I have been a patient of Dr. Koch's for several years and am very happy with her. She may be a little rough around the edges but she knows what she's talking about and that's what matters to me. Whether I'm calling in or seeing Dr. Koch in person I know that she and her staff will always put my care first and solve any problem. You may have to wait a little while when you see Dr. Koch but just remember that's because she is so THOROUGH and she'll take just as much time with you as she takes with the patients before you! I'm a very happy patient and recommend her to all of my family and friends.

Dr. Koch has the worst bedside manner. Her exams are rough. She didn't ask me if it was okay for her medical student to be in the room for the exam. She is rude and pushes specific drugs that she clearly gets kickbacks from. DO NOT SEE HER!

I have been to a few different gynos in the past several years and have not found one I liked until today. Dr. Koch and her staff were fantastic. They were knowledgable and friendly and made me feel extremely comfortable. The wait was a little long, but Dr. Koch was extremely apologetic and explained that a lunch conference had gone long (and I have heard from other patients that a long wait is unusual there). I was able to get an appointment for a week after I called, which is unheard of around where I live. I highly recommend Dr. Koch.

These comments are coming from a person that is extremely nervous and wary of any doctors. I had not been to a doctor of any kind for 15 years when I went to Dr.K. I was almost put off by the long wait but intelligently deducted that this was because she was very much in demand and not from poor scheduling. After my first visit I also realized that the wait often occurs because she takes as much time that is needed with each patient and unlike so many of my previous experiences does not treat people as numbers on a chart (hence the reason for my distate of doctors). She was wonderful, respectful, knowlegable and highly professional (who needs a great bedside manner when you know you can put your life in a doctors capable hands)I have been seeing her regularly for over 10 years and she still is the ONLY doctor I see. BTW...she saved my life!!!Thank you HK ...you are the BEST!!

I am a physician myself (still in residency), and Helene Koch is absolutely the rudest, most unprofessional physician I have ever met. Wish I read this site before my appointment! I went for a routine pap smear, she slammed my legs open twice, was very rough, talked down to me, yelled at me because I wanted yeast cultures done, and tried to force Wellbutrin on me because I admitted I was tired on her little depression screening! Who isn't tired?!? When I refused, she just kept insisting it was a safe medication and became nastier. Unbelievable! She didn't even ask if it was okay that her Physician Assistant student stay in the room during the exam. I would NEVER EVER see this horrible woman again and really want to warn all women to stay away from her. Absolutely the worst physician interaction I've experienced, and I see from other posts that I am not the only one. This is a business, you need to show your patients a little more courtesy and respect!

NOT suggested for younger girls. I am 19 and I went to her office hoping to be informed and made comfortable but after an 1 1/2 wait she lectured at me and spent no time making me comfortable. at my second exam she told me my pap was unclear and gave me a prescription for a vaginal cream without informing me at all how to use it or that it would be $300. when I returned, the exam was so painful and she treated me as though it were my fault that the last was unclear. for whatever erason my mother loves her because she is "blunt" but I find her rude and I always leave her office confused as to what just happened.

I think this doctor is a monster...I am a 41 year old woman.(with 2 births) And her pap test "HURT" I am a nurse and he bedside manor SUCKS too. She told me I did not have any of the other dx that my previous doctor told me.(stopped going because I moved)..She did a procedure in her office that should have been preformed in a hospital O.R. Yes she does push certian drugs and I'm sure she gets a kick back. Her N.P. Karassia is wondeful I feel sorry for her working there. I had a vaginal ultrasound AFTER the hysterscope??? The woman at the ultrasound place was more gental than she is....If your into pain and being talked to like your a dog then go there...I am going back to my old doctor who is 45 mins away! I wonder if she has even has hospital privledges anywhere..I just want my hysterectomy and she was PISSED that I didn't want her to continue to treat me medically..She would not be the one preforming the surgery???? I DON'T think so

Upon my initial visit I found the staff with the exception of the PA Katjya (sp?), very unhelpful, rude, or just plain unprofessional. The office - unkempt and dirty. One of my visits they were so disorganized they had me move from exam room to exam room, to eventually put me in a room that hadn't been cleaned after the previous patient. Swabs, paper, wrappers all over the room. Punctuality - terrible. Waited for 2 hours in exam room on numerous occasions, including a rather nerve-racking procedure, only to keep getting interrupted by the staff (wishing it was time to get it over with,) to grab something from my exam room. Office setup - small, and you can hear everything going on in other rooms/hallways pretty clearly. At one point I heard the nurse complain that she "didn't feel like it" when asked to help assist in my follow up visit at the time. Nurse - extremely moody and terrible bedside manner. Dr. Koch - I liked. Thought she was a little rough and abrasive but overall OK.

The unfortunate truth about practicing OB/Gyn in Pennsylvania is that malpractice insurance is driving doctors out-of-state. As a result, there are not enough OB/Gyns for the population, and a long wait is unavoidable. As a 29 year-old non-pregnant female, I found Dr. Koch to be absolutely wonderful. She took more time with me than any doctor I have ever had, explained things to me thoroughly, and was very patient with my many questions. Paps are never fun, and neither was hers- but it wasn't abnormally uncomfortable. Most importantly, when you walk away from Dr. Koch you feel that you have been informed about your own health, and that she has educated you about your options. Her staff, especially her PAs, are wonderful. The front desk person was a bit grumpy, but I would be too. I would recommend Dr. Koch if you want a doctor that treats you like a patient instead of a name on a chart.

I went to Dr. Koch for two years and she was "tough" but okay and is knowledgeable. She's not as gentle with the speculum or as sweet with the bedside manner, I agree. The only reason I stopped going is the two time 1 1/2 hr. wait (very busy practice), the "pushing" of Nuvaring and her staff misplacing my chart/not good faxers. She gave me a good referral for fibroid treatment though and I wish her well.

Dr. Koch provided me with the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor. I get the impression from looking at this site that she must have a very different attitude towards pregnant women in their late 20s or early 30s or older women. I'm 23 and she was condescendng. She had no manners. Did not guide me through the exam. Did not listen to my concerns about changing a birth control that was working well for me. She's clearly a pusher for certain pharmaceuticals and I would not be surprised if she was paid off. She was also an hour and half late for my exam which might have been acceptable if she was the least bit apologetic. She clearly has no regard for drug interactions with BC and her exam was very painful. I have filed a complaint with the state medical board. Do NOT see this doctor.

I've been w/Dr. Koch for 11+ yrs. She's not ultra-"pink", but not rude. She works alone in an office, and in her career, decided to do so because of stupid insurance-co.-red-tape that prevents her from treating her patients effectively. She's not the softest pap smear doctor, I admit. But, having a history of pregnancy losses (4), she's my complete angel. She was the only doctor w/the balls to tell me my 20-wk fetus was dead; my own doctor in the group sissied out. That's how I met her and she was THE BEST. She's very busy/has little time for silly giddiness. Her timeliness is no worse than many other doctors. She wants patients to be informed & make the best decisions for their health. She's always up on the latest technology, & recommended that I get Essure (no surgery!) instead of the standard tubal ligation. I will never leave her & go to a multi-doctor practice that just passes you along to whomever is available. Talk out your concerns, but don't count her out.

She's the worst of the worst. Poor bedside manner, rough exam-- not just uncomfortable, but painful-- and the comment about "you young girls"-- yeah, OK old lady, maybe you like it rough, but personally, I was always told to expect some discomfort and pressure during a gyn exam, but that it shouldn't be painful, and when I actually said, "ow, you're hurting me" Dr. Koch grunted and shoved the speculum in further. She also did the only breast exam I've ever had that left visible bruises on my skin. I seriously thought about filing a complaint with the state medical board. Instead I called and left a message to try to talk with her about it, but she never called me back. How very unprofessional, but then reading the comments posted here, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR. (unless you happen to like rough, painful, exams from a brusque, unprofessional doctor).

Dr. Koch is the worst most unprofessional doctor i've ever been to. She was rude and abrasive. She was an hour and half late. She has absolutely no knowledge of the interactions medications can have with birth control. She paid no attention to the medications I was on and was mad when i said that i couldn't take a perscription what would have been dangerous. She did not guide me throught the exam she just shoved the spectulum right in without telling me. She didn't ask if it was okay if the medical student stayed in the room during my exam. She was patronizing and absolutely would not give me my perscription (which had been working for 2 years). I had to pay money to go to another doctor so that I could get what i should have gotten from her. IT was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor and you couldn't pay em to go back. Spare yourself and don't go there.

Spare me the "you young girls" patronizing crap-- her exam was the most painful one I've ever experienced by far-- I've never had kids, but I have had pelvic exams by other GYN's that have been painless- uncomfortable, maybe, but never painful like Koch's. And I totally disagree that you need to become nasty and abrasive (like Dr. Koch) to survive an OB/GYN residency in a male dominated field... That's just Dr. Koch's poor bedside manner... my current OB/GYN is gentle, pleasant and approaches difficult topics directly and matter of factly without being abrasive. My experience with Dr. Koch was the worst I've had with any doctor ever.

i love doctor koch i would never go anywhere else. i went to her for my first gyno visit and she made me feel very comfortable and easied my nerves. Now 7 years later i still go to her. I even use her as a primary sometimes she is so knowledgeable. Just keep in mind she is so well liked that at times it maybe hard to get an appointment but her staff goes out of the way to accomodate and help you get there and get in on time. Her knowledge and compassion is completely worth it.

Just wanted to say that you young girls would consider any gyn exam painful. I was like that before I've had my first child. No doctor would be able to do it painless...Dr. Koch saved me and my girlfriend from cervical cancer by insisting that we should have a colposcopy (exam when doctor can actually see those spots PAP smear might miss. Both my aunts had cervical cancers and both my grandmothers died of breast cancer, so I was in a high risk category. She insisted I take care of this problem before getting pregnant and she also recommended me diet to enhance my period and improve fertility. I followed her advice, took folic acid for 2 months before getting pregnant and now my twins are healthy and brilliant!

I have been going to Dr. Koch for several years and she is an amazing doctor and person. Sure sometimes she can be perceived as being abrasive but this is just her strong personality. The type of personality needed to get through one of the toughest residencies (OB/GYN)and to navigate through the male dominated medical field.

Dr. Koch can sometimes seem harsh, but she knows her stuff. At one point, my exam was painful, but I talked to her about it and she had to change the instrument she was using. Although she always seems rushed, she is willing to go the extra mile with a patient and does want the best for all of her patients. Believe me, I was not a big fan of her; however, I have been to other OB/GYN's and nobody else is as thorough as Dr. Helene. If you are willing to settle for someone who does not care about your overall health, then go somewhere else. But, if you are want what your insurance pays for, give Dr. Helene a chance.

Dr. Koch is an amazing doctor. When I was pregnant with my first child she was part of a GYN group. I became extrememely ill with a bilateral kidney infection. I went from one doctor in the group to the next-put in the hospital and sent home. It wasn't until Dr. Koch saw me that she took me under her wing. She took the time to give me personal attention and gave me the one on one care I so desperately needed. She saw me through the difficult pregnancy and became almost a member of our family. I would recommend Dr. Koch to anyone seeking a knowelegeable, caring gyn.

AWFUL!!!!!!! Harsh manner, I agree with the last comment about the painful exams and the way she talks at you. She seems to have her own agenda, regardless of what your concerns or specific problems are. Doesn't believe you if you say you're not sexually active, and apparently if you're not interested in birth control lecture, that's some kind of personal insult to her. I actually also ended up seeing Wendy Manko, and Dr. Manko is great. Don't make my mistake and see Dr. Koch first-- skip her and go straight to Dr. Manko!

DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR. She talks AT you, not to you, it doesn't matter what you're there for, she wants to tell you about birth control and STD's (even if she's told you 100 times before and you tell her you're not interested, or you're already on birth control...) Her exam is PAINFUL-- I've never had an exam that hurt so much! See Dr. Manko instead!

Finally, a doctor that tells you like it is in plain language, not medical jargon! What a refreshing office to walk into! Dr. Koch not only knows what she is talking about but she is straightforward and completely to the point. No beating around the bush with this doctor. Her diagnosis was right on and her treatment plan worked incredibly! I would absolutely recommend Dr. Koch to anyone that wants a doctor that will talk to you like she is your sister or friend

STAY AWAY. I saw her for my first GYN appt. I told her I was nervous and not sexually active, I was seeing her because of problems with my period. She talked AT me the entire time about the importance of birth control even though I told her multiple times I wasn't sexually active and I knew what my options were if I ever wanted birth control. She was brusque and intimidating. She didn't tell me anything about the exam beforehand, or even tell me what she was doing as she did it. Both the breast and pelvic were more painful than any I've ever had since.
