:) Click to report rating    2/9/10 4 5 5 We have seen Dr. O'keefe since 1992, when we moved to Co.Springs. He has been very good for us and he literally saved my husband's life. He heard a change in his heart murmer and sent him for more tests, result was a new mitral valve and dacron graft to the ascending aorta. If gone undetected the anuersym would have ruptured and he would have died suddenly. He takes time to talk with me and we have a good rapport. I am a retired nurse and I can tell a good Doc. I am not sure what generated the negative comments from some patients.

:) Click to report rating    3/25/09 4 4 5 I have used Dr. O'Keeffe for 10 years. I have some complicated medical issues and he has been both patient and very knowledgable as we explore treatments. He is very thorough and willing to explore many different avenues as seem appropriate.I believe he is a very good MD and recommend his office highly.

:( Click to report rating    1/6/09 1 1 1 I've known and been treated by Dr. O'Keeffe for over 20 years(My parents were patients), going back to his army days. I can honestly tell you all he knows is to prescribe pain killers and antibiotics. NEVER takes the time to get to the root of the problem. His staff is very dismissive. The entire practice acts like a conveyor belt-they want you in, out, and pay your bill, thank you very much. He's fine for sports physicals and refills, but God help you if you need an actual diagnosis. For 10 years, as a child, he prescribed to me one pain killer after another for my migraines, including opiates. I left for college and the first doctor I saw figured out it was a food allergy! I have three sisters all treated by Dr. O'Keeffe and we all have the same kind of stories.

:) Click to report rating    11/20/08 5 5 5 ~~I am a new pt. to this practice. The staff treated me like gold when I walked in. The Dr. was on time, and the staff and provider really cared about my issues. I brought my chilren in with me and they were welcomed with open arms. The very next day, I was called with my lab results, and much to my amazement they had my appts. booked with the specialists and had referrals all done. Keep up the good work, I have highly recommended my family and friends to this office!

:( Click to report rating    11/17/08 1 1 1 If you don't mind being secondary to your case, never being looked in the eye, having the Doctor and Staff believe their computers are MORE important than YOU the patient, then go here! GEEZ these people are bad. Labs ordered and never communicated to patient, NO patient caring, Okeefe is stiff and completely without personality. I'm surprized he can run any kind of practice. Family Practice Docs are everywhere - FIND ANOTHER!!

:( Click to report rating    11/11/08 2 4 1 I must admit that I grew up going to the same family doctor for 25 years and my expectation was to be listened to. I agree with many of the other estimates above. The people look at their laptops more than they listen to you. I had just got off the trail leading a backcountry trip. I explained that I thought I had giardia (I had had it before). He scolded me for "self-diagnoses" and gave me a medicine that increased my nausea, instead of the enzyme blocker (flagell) I knew I needed. I had to go back on the trail the next week and the lab reports didn't come back when they said they would. I continued to lose weight and throw up for several days. When I got back off the trail, the lab reports confirmed that I was correct, and that it was Giardia. They wanted to call in a prescription for flagell. That was good, but it was too late. An old doctor at Indiana U, told my friend, "listen to a patient, 80% of the time, they will tell you what is wrong." This place doesn't think that way.

:) Click to report rating    9/2/08 5 5 5 Been a pt. for a long time. He is always there when we need him.He works you in when you are sick. Is a physician who values your time and runs on schedule. Has always called back with results or has his nurse do it, if routine info. I have corresponded with him via his office web page, which is nice when you are a busy person.

:) Click to report rating    4/19/08 5 5 5 I'm surprised at the negative reviews of Dr. O'Keeffe I see here -- not at all my experience. I've been a patient for over 10 years and have always been satisfied with the service at his office and his medical knowledge. I guess some people expect perfection in everyday life events like going to the Dr, picking up scripts, etc. Not gonna happen! Get a life and you might be generally healthier and happier...

:| Click to report rating    4/11/08 2 2 2 When my husband and I first began seeing Dr. O'Keefe, his staff was friendly and helpful and you barely had to wait at all. Now, sometimes it's 45 min before we can get into his office. The staff say they are making referrals for me at Dr. O'Keefe's request, but when I get to the referral doc. often no referral has been sent. We don't mind the laptop but the doc. sometimes puts in the wrong info, even as we are giving him the correct info. However, I did get calls back immediately from Dr. O'Keefe to tell me the results of my physical lab tests. He was friendly and thorough in his explanations. Still put off by his staff and inaccuracies of medical information.

:( Click to report rating    10/18/07 1 1 1 TRUST WHAT YOU SEE HERE. THIS IS A BAD PRACTICE. HOW THEY SURVIVE I HAVE NOT IDEA. NOT IN A DAY WHERE GP'S ARE EVERY WHERE AND MANY ARE FRIENDLY, CARING AND OUTSTANDING IN WHAT THEY DO. THIS O'KEEFE IS AWFUL, DOES NOT CARE, ONLY CYA WITH LAPTOP AND HAS TAUGHT HIS WHOLE STAFF TO DO THE SAME THING. HE IS UNINVOLVED, UNCARING, DOES NOT LISTEN AND THIS WILL ALL CATCH UP WITH HIM IN MAL-PRACTICE SUITS BUT LET'S NOT LET THAT BE YOU. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND VOTE WITH YOUR HEALTH CARE (INSURANCE) DOLLARS. PERHAPS THIS GUY WILL HEAD BACK TO PATIENT SERVICE AND CARE CLASS. I COULD CARE LESS THAT HE IS CERTIFIED IN FAMILY PRACTICE. MEANS NOTHING WHEN YOU DON'T TREAT PEOPLE WELL. BRAIN SURGEON - OKAY, FAMILY PRACTICE NO WAY!!!!! I CAN ONLY HOPE OKEEFE LEARNS SOMETHING FROM THIS - MY GUESS IS NO. JUST AS WITH HIS PATIENT CARE HE WILL PLOD ALONG WITH A PRE-DETERMINED LINE OF THINING - THAT IS NOT GOOD FOR ANY DOCTOR!!!!

:) Click to report rating    8/22/07 5 5 5 What a caring office. The physician was on time, respected my time and gave me a great plan to follow. I was notified of my labs with in two days. Friendly, efficient and I will reamin a pt. here!

:( Click to report rating    1/9/07 3 1 I agree with some who believe this office is unfriendl, un caring and really very average. O'Keefe I believe could not care LESS. Dull, boring, would not listen to my concerns, my experience with my case. He just plodded on with his line of thinking without listening. I believe it is true, Bd. Certification has nothing to do with caring, communication. They do LOTS of CYA on their computers - time that should be spent listening. Never have received call back on lab or xrays. They ARE bad. Find another GP - honestly!!

:) Click to report rating    11/16/06 5 5 I have been a pt. of this practice for the last 15 years. The staff treats you like you are family, the physician's still do thier own hospital care (you certainly don't see that anymore). They went to a computerized system a few years back, and I can tell you that I think that having them send your prescription via the computer to the pharmacy, so when you get to the pharmacy your meds are already there, is excellent. You can e-mail them, and you have access to your chart through their secure system. Great Practice, Great Staff, Wonderful Drs. I expect alot, and they deliver.

:) Click to report rating    11/3/06 4 5 A friend with the same doctor told me about this web page, and I should see what others think of my Dr. Wow,I was shocked, and apawled at what I read.I have seen Dr. O'keeffe for 2 years now and am happier with him, then with any other Dr. in the last 20 years. He is not only knowledgable, helpful, professional, but the most caring Dr. He has taken time away from his family to see me in the hospital rather then brush me off on some Dr. who knows nothing about me or my health. No matter how busy he may be he is never to busy for the care of me and my family. He is down to earth, caring and personable. I know I'm not the only one out there who has been down on their luck, both he, Linda and the office staff have showed the utmost compasion and care for my family when we needed it most. I can honestly say that there is no reason in the world not to recommend Carefree Family Medicine, the most caring Dr-Dr. O'keeffe. Anyone would be lucky to have him care for them and their loved ones!

:( Click to report rating    10/30/06 4 1 Funny, I'm not the only one that thinks this practice should be called Careless instead of Carefree. I went to my first appointment prepared with my history, doctors names for my specialty referrals, etc. Not only did Dr. O'Keefe write down the referral doctor's name as MY name on my Rx's but he kept calling me by the wrong name even after I introduced myself and he had my file on his computer! I don't need to see a dr. very often but if he calls me the wrong name what else is he getting wrong? His office staff is very rude as well. I had a question of whether certain services would be covered by my insurance (a question that was answered by my previous physicians/staff). Her response was that I had to do that myself, gee thanks. Most recently when I called to ask a quick question I was transferred to a nurse (not a bad thing)... mid-sentence (bad thing). Overall this medical practice is unfriendly & Dr. O'Keefe's bedside manner is awful. I'll be switching doctors ASAP.

:( Click to report rating    8/31/06 3 1 I had some tests done. They assured me they would call me that day. Days, turned into weeks, no call and no response to MY calls to them. After THREE weeks, I finally got some secretary to FAX ME the results and decided myself. VERY Poor practice, no communications, very uncaring. Jard to get them to look up from their computers. Clearly Board certification does not mean they know how to communicate with patients. Go Elsewhere.

:( Click to report rating    8/23/06 3 1 Their name is Carefree Family Medicine. It should be Care LESS Family Medicine. The doctors stare at their computers during your entire visit. They do not return phone calls, they do not call you back after you take the time to get X-rays done, they are very very average and I'd recommend you go elsewhere. Of ALL your physicians, your family practitioner should be THE most personable and interested in you as a person / patient. These folks are NOT. I really do believe they practice medicine based on what their laptops tell them. If I got half the attention their laptops get, I'd probably be thrilled. Trust me, find another office. There are doctors out there that at least act like they care!!
