15/05/09 4 4 4 4 Dr. Harrigan tells it the way it is. She is honest with how she feels and expects that if she is wrong for you to prove to her differently. Why should she take her time to help you if you are not willing to put your effort in, ESPECIALLY when so many people want or need her. Be honest to her/yourself and she will show her true colors! My father saw Doctor Harrigan and was not fond of what she had to say but you know...she was right as far as I am concerned! She also sees me with my condition...she is VERY busy, and hard to catch at times and under great demand (because she is good)! She treats me well and knows her stuff regarding my condition. Every case of every condition is different....Considering all, I give her an 8!  Respond

28/01/09 4 3 4 5 Dr. Harrigan is very knowledgeable and was quite helpfull in dealing with my Crohn's up until the point where she accepted a new position with the hospital and left me with no specialist or a referal. I had to get a new referal from my family doctor and have waited almost a year for my first consult with new doctor.  Respond

12/05/07 5 5 5 Dr. Harrigan is a wonderful, compassionate doctor. Unlike many specialist, she is very down to earth and friendly. I am shocked to see negative comments about her. I am very satisfied with the care she gives me and would recommend her to anyone.  Respond

28/04/07 5 5 5 I was referred to Dr Harrigan by my family doctor. Although I have only had three appointments with her so far, I am impressed with what I have seen in that time. She seems very caring and highly trained. I would not hesitate to allow her to treat me.  Respond

25/04/07 5 5 5 Dr. Harrigan has been my internist for about 7 years. She is wondeful. She takes the time to go over everything I have concerns about. She is willing to try something different in appoach to specific problems I have. And if they don't work out, she and I decide what is the best next move for me. NO ONE but Dr. Harrigan is allowed to mess with my long term meds, not even my family Dr., and I have a lot of respect for her too.If you are in trouble and need the best, find a way to get to Dr. Harrigan  Respond

11/04/07 5 5 5 I think Dr. Harrigan is absolutely wonderful. I went over 10 years with an undiagnosed stomach problem, where I went to numerous Dr.'s in Halifax and my GP couldn't figure it out. I went to Dr. Harrigan and she was able to offer me samples of an expensive drug to try and was also able to diagnose my condition. Because of her, I now have my condition under control, and with her help have been able to be taken off the medication all together. If I never went to her, I would probably still be undiagnosed.  Respond

25/03/07 5 5 5 How does one begin to rate a docter who has taken care of one's mother for 18 years? who has given her time, compassion, AND who has saved her life on more than one occassion?? When people complain about DR.Harrigan's lack of compassion ,it's too bad they did not see her carry my mother's ashes out of the church with tears streaming down her face..... Rate her???? There is no rating high enough!!

21/03/07 5 5 5 I experienced illness requiring hospitalization. Dr.Harrigan was my internist during my stay and for follow up appts. I have nothing but good to say about her treatment of me and my family as well. She was very patient- but firm - ; she was very busy but I never felt that she couldn't take time to answer my concerns. I have had to consult her a couple of times since then, she has always been very willing to explain problems to me with care and patience.  Respond

18/03/07 3 1 2 A relative had a negative experience with her. He was unable to get his diabetes under control despite his best efforts. She thought he could do better. He followed the diet and medication schedule and exercised. I do not think she believed him. He is now followed elsewhere and still having trouble with his diabetes, but is doing okay, and getting along well with his diabetes doctor.  Respond

17/03/07 4 5 5 Dr. Harrigan has been treating me for migraine headaches with great compassion. She most recently was called by my family doctor regarding my heart. She herself administered a stress test which I found to be beyond her call of duty. I find her pleasant, compassionate and extremly informed. Five years ago she treated my mother who passed away but Lynne Harrigan continued treating the family. She spent at least 1 1/2 hours talking to my 2 sisters and I in her office, after hours. She wanted to make sure we knew that we had done everything possible to help our Mom. I feel that anyone who has a problem with Dr. Lynne Harrigan is most likely never to be satisfied unless they are going to a doctor who will do nothing but write perscriptions and agree with everything they say.  Respond

14/03/07 1 1 1 she should be treating all of her patients with the same level of care, attention, and kindness rather than cutting them off from receiving care for a serious and chronic condition.  Respond

13/03/07 5 5 5 I have lived outside of Nova Scotia for a number of years and was surprised to hear Dr. Harrigan on CBC yesterday speaking about this website. I was beyond surprised to hear she had experienced such negative feedback. Along with some others on this list, I was treated for a puzzling and elusive collection of symptoms and in light of this she remained ever compassionate, patient, professional and reassuring. I have lived in three countries since my days as her patient and have on numerous occasions related my very positive experience with this woman to others. Unfortunately, those of us who know she is exceptional both as a doctor and as a human being don't bother to find this venue to 'vent'...I hope she looks at this site just one more time to know that anonymous comments here certainly do not represent the beliefs of all.keep up the very good work, the medical world needs more like you!  See Responses

18/12/06 3 1 1 Little compassion was shown toward me and my family. In fact, during asn exacerbation of my illness Dr. Lynne Harrigan deserted me in hospital. She never came back to check on me and she was angry. Dr. Harrigan had told the nurses more or less that I was feigning my illness. Her words divided the nurses. Some were on my side. Many sided with her. It made for a miserable hospital stay, because many nurses believed and respected Dr. Harrigan. Thus, little-to-no compassion was shown. It saddens me that any doctor could treat his or her patient so disgracefully because they lack understanding of a particular orphan (rare) disease. My family doctor had to discharge me from hospital. Dr. Harrigan having abandoned my care was no longer involved. He had been away when this all took place. Thankfully, I had an understanding family doctor, a wonderful specialist also took over my care. Now I am receiving necessary care, with suport, and a compassionate touch for my very real illness.  Respond

18/12/06 4 5 5 Dr. Harrigan has should great compassion, concern and knowledge to me, my family & my condition over the past number of years since we were first introduced. 12/12/06 5 5 5 Willing to listen to patient's point of view regarding medical issue. Very well versed on the research particularly regarding diabetes. Yes, she can be fierce, but in a supportive way. I do not go to the doctor to chat!!  Respond

07/12/06 3 3 4 She is spread too thin with the extra workload of being appointed Chief of Staff. Her availability is sparse and, unfortunatley, because of this her effectiveness has been slightly compromised. As an Internist, she is very knowledgeable, caring, approachable and determined. As an Internist/Chief of Staff she simply does not have the time to be as great as she could be.  Respond

07/12/06 5 5 5 Extremely helpful and knowledgeable, a great listener and personable - a rarity in a Physician, especially a Specialist. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes over my appointment, another rarity. She is well read and knows all the latest medical information and is willing to discuss lots of treatment options.  Respond

21/11/06 4 1 1 Initially, my first impression of Dr. Harrigan was that she held great compassion, concern, and was over all a wonderful doctor. Complexities of my condition increasingly brought about frustration for her. Although I was always friendly, and respectful of Dr. Harrigan, she was becoming increasingly less respectful towards my care and to me. One day, I arrived to my appointment, and she told me that my illness was psychological. I left that appointment trying not to cry only to end up in tears and crying the rest of that day and week. In fact, I started to believe she had been right. Fortunately, my kind-hearted family doctor referred me to a truly compassionate specialist. He discovered that my condition was not psychological, but physical. Knowing it is not psychological helps me. Dr. Harrigan never contacted me again for follow up appointments nor would I ever recommend her. She may be a great doctor to many, but she can also treat people badly, and with indifference.  Respond

16/11/06 4 1 1 When she does not understand your medical problem, she can turn nasty. She treated me unkindly by trivializing my serious illness. Agreeing with a previous poster about her talking/gossiping and her lack of empathy.  See Responses
