21/08/13 1 1 2 4 Dr Elser did not give me the time or attention I required to fully understand my diagnosis. While she may be an excellent scientist, she lacks the compassion, patience and accessibility that I require from my medical team. As a cancer patient, I worked extremely hard to to understand my diagnosis in order to be a proactive participant in my treatment. When I had a question, Dr Elser was never available. She is not available by phone, text, or email, and her secretary Evelyn rarely returns my calls. In frustration I will drive to the hospital and show up unannounced in Evelyn's door, where it's clear that scheduling an appointment is a huge imposition . Even then the wait is long. And at the actual appointment, the wait is again long and frustrating. Dr Elser is curt, and unapologetic. If you are recently diagnosed, please know that you are in charge, and have the right to put together a team that meets for your needs physiologically and emotionally  Respond

19/07/13 5 5 5 5 We read a number of negative comments about Dr. Elser and were rather scared before meeting her first time. However, after the consultation discussing with her my wife's treatment, we became pretty sure that Dr. Elser is a knowledgeable professional, who cares about her patients and aims at providing the best treatment to them. She also appeared to be very friendly and answered all our questions in full. Her staff and especially, nurse Louise is probably one of the best in the hospital. It's is better to rely on your own experience rather than merely on the forum comments, which could be very subjective and just reflect someone's unique personal attitude and experience not applicable to others. Good luck to everyone fighting the decease!  Respond

18/01/13 1 1 1 1 The worst. 4-6 hr waits. Overdosed me for 2 chemo cycles, nearly killed me, called me 'crazy' at every appt b/c I took an antidepressant, told me chemo would kill me then disappeared for 3 wks w/no emerg info & telling me nothing about what to expect. Sent me to a 'consult' w/another Dr. that turned out to be surgery I knew nothing about! When I went to her terrified & injured after a PMH phlebotomist assaulted me she promised to "take care of it" then sent me back to be assaulted & threatened with death again. When I tried to transfer PMH Patient Relations told me the Dr. was "worth more than any dying cancer patient" & threatened to withhold treatment until I was dead. She might as well have as in 3yrs I still can't escape the nightmares. Record keeping AWFUL. Usually had wrong file, once wasting 20 mins insisting I'd had a lumpectomy when I'd had bilateral mastectomies. The medical records are a mess & I hope Elser experiences what I suffered 1 day soon.  Respond

19/11/12 1 1 1 1 Unprofessional, no respect for patients time. kept me waiting in hospital gown for over an hour and didnt show up even after that. It wasn't the first time, I was kept waiting and I volunteered to be part of Cancer screening program and travelled for over an hour for my appointment to PMH. Such doctors bring shame to this noble profession. What happened to the Oath they take. Highly disappointed.  See Responses

12/09/12 1 1 1 1 worst doctor i have ever met. and i work with doctors everyday. She is cold, uncaring and really couldn't give a care less about your emotional well being. She runs on a punch clock and does not go above and beyond her minimum job requirements. She makes a lot of mistakes and errors in care and unfortnately because of her lack of diligence and attention to detail i lost my father!  Respond

14/07/12 1 1 1 1 Extremely cold, uncaring and a total lack of regard for her patient's care and well being. She has no knowledge of the latest research in cancer advancements, and conveys the most dire scenarios, instead of offering hope and support to her patients. Run as fast as you can, and find another doctor.  Respond

23/05/12 4 4 1 2 When I visited Dr. Elser I didn't find her particularly helpful. She said I needed a scan. Given that I have a progressive cancer, I asked how soon that could be scheduled. Dr. Elser shrugged her shoulders and said 'well it is near Christmas". I was so shocked - cancer doesn't take a holiday. I wonder how impressed a non- Christian would be to hear that. I found her to be curt, cold, and shee seemed uncaring. I couldn't tell if she was knowledgeable or not since she didn't offer anything concrete. I found it scary to encounter a doctor like this when I was ill and needed care and support. Other doctors at PMH have been absolutely wonderful - thank God.  Respond

24/11/11 1 1 1 2 Has her prattle about what she wants to tell you. She does not like to be questioned about what she is saying. Things get missed in her office, like referrals for tests, so you have to check and recheck things. Her secretary seems to forget things and does not return calls in a timely manner, nor does she even when she says she will call you back. Found it very stressful to have her as my MO.  Respond

23/06/11 4 5 5 5 Dr. Elser's oncology nursing staff is wonderful. My only complaints are that she doesn't give out her email address, AND her secretary does not return calls in a timely manner, if at all. Dr. Elser, herself, has been very kind and accomodating to my special needs.  Respond

29/11/10 1 1 1 1 It is in your best interest to find a new doctor. I agree with the first two reviews. Elser is over 3 hrs late for every booked apt i have had. I don't know how she justifies keeping her sick patients waiting over and over. Her knowledge and skills are extremely questionable and definitely not worth gambling your life on. she and her staff are emotionless and she has a narrow view of treatment options, based on my case.  Respond

10/11/10 5 4 5 5 Dr. Elser is a hard working, careful, skilled oncologist who has given my husband who suffers from late stage breast cancer, only the best advice and treatment. She has been a kind and dutiful care provider to him, and I have every confidence in her ability to balance the art and science of treating a cancer patient with advanced disease. I noticed comments on timeliness in other reviews. My opinion, after accompanying my husband to Princess Margaret for nearly 7 years, is that sometimes, a patient will have to wait - doctors may be dealing with a patient ahead of you who has just found out they have cancer, or whose case is complex. I totally understand that the oncologist will need to take more than the average time with that patient, and we will need to be understanding. Dr. Elser is working with a scheduling system that is not perfect. I have personal knowledge that she works long hours, follows up when necessary with phone calls, and, sometimes misses lunch. PS Bettina is great  Respond

03/11/10 2 1 2 2 I have very little faith that Dr Christine Elser knows what she is doing. It seems to me that she learns as she goes along. She is constantly late for apts and has no regard for her patient’s time -- as she had a sick patient (my parent) wait for SIX HOURS!!! for a booked apt. That was not the only time - we've had to wait a minimum of two hours to see her on every visit. We found her sec Bittima Bright extremely unkind. our experience with her leads me to believe she's lost all empathy and personal touch. She could benefit from some training on how to talk to patients and their families. If you are referred to Dr Christine Elser i would strongly suggest you request another physician!!! Apart from Elser and her secretary, i must comment on the staff at the PMH chemo daycare unit. They are absolutely lovely. They care and treat all patients and family members with extreme respect and empathy. they make an unpleasant and emotional experience much more tolerable.  Respond
