:) Click to report rating    8/21/09 5 5 5 My wife and I have used Dr. Niren for years. He treated my son for acne. He removed a cyst from my daughter's back. We were 100% satisfied every time. I've had or witnessed him removing several different bumps by various methods of surgery. Each time he performed quickley, flawlessly, and fairly painless. He has always answered our questions in terms we could understand. While he does move quickley (which I consider a good thing) he actually demonstrates a laid back sense of humor. For me, it takes my mind off the procedure. Maybe others find it objectional. Bottom line, I have and will continue to highly recommend this doctor.

:) Click to report rating    4/24/09 5 4 5 Dr. Niren solved my acne problems. For years I suffered with mild to severe acne that started in my early 20's. I have been treated by plenty of doctors from NYC to Los Angeles, and not one of their treatments stopped my break-outs. I am now 34 years old. It has been 2 years since I had begun to follow Dr. Niren's skin regimen and I have not had any terrible break outs. I believe my results have been amazing, because I carefully followed his recommendations for cleansing my skin and the purchased products he suggested.

:( Click to report rating    3/27/09 3 5 1 Please do yourself a favor and make an appointment with a different derm. This guy is rude and DOES NOT care to listen to his patient. He was greatly offended that I tried to research my own problem. I'm used to doctors treating me with respect, Niren did not!

:) Click to report rating    11/17/08 5 5 5 I think that Dr. Niren is the best! He has always treated my family with respect. He is very friendly, polite and excellent with children. He has treated me, my 13 year old daughter and my 6 year old son. I was very pleased with the treatment that we received. We have visited him on numerous occasions. I have and will recommend Dr. Niren to anyone looking for a dermatologist. He is very intelligent and knows exactly what he is doing. I feel comfortable and trust his judgement without having to question him. Apparently he knows more than the person coming in for an appointment does, since he went to medical school and has been practicing for many years. I am appalled at some of the comments that I read about Dr. Niren. Those patients are people that will never be happy regardless of what doctor they go to visit. The staff is very polite and the waiting time is very minimal. I plan on going to Dr. Niren and taking my children to him until the day he retires!!!

:) Click to report rating    10/25/08 4 5 5 My husband and I both, are patients of Dr.Niren. He has performed three hair transplants on my husband. Each proceedure takes approximtely 9 hours. Each time I was invited to stay with my husband during the proceedure. Which means spending those 9 consecutive hours with Dr Niren as well. During all of those hours Dr Niren was kind, helpful, patient, informative and respectful. He has treated me for various cosmetic proceedures and I've always been very pleased with each outcome. Frankly, I don't understand the negitive reviews I've read in regards to him. I have recommended Dr. Niren many times and will continue. I live in Pittsburgh,in order to get to his North Hills office, I pass many dermatology offices. If you insist on the best care for yourself, passing the other dermatology offices makes sense. I intend to continue my dermatological care with Dr Niren.

:| Click to report rating    8/1/08 5 3 3 Dr. Niren is not a subscriber to the idea that each person has the right to make an educated decision for their own medical needs. He is an arrogant, loud, know it all. He made me feel quite uncomfortable with his sarcastic and insensitive tone. For a first time patient, his bedside manner was a disgrace. He quickly looks, makes fast, uninformed decisions, starts injecting and burning your body with no explanation, and gets visibly irritated when asked for any information about what he is doing or why. To put it quite simply, he is a JERK. I have never been made to feel so uncomfortable and defensive in the presence of one who is supposed to PROVIDE CARE. Save yourself the aggravation... oh... and the double bill for your copay. His staff seemed nice.

:( Click to report rating    2/12/08 3 3 1 I went to Dr.Niren for mild acne. He was confrontational, not understanding, & too busy to be bothered. Before visiting him I had decided that I didn't want to use Acutane to clear my skin due to risks associated with it. When I told him this, he cornered me in the room asking me where I got the 'Accutane risk' info from. He then started listing off other drugs that had risks, & I quote: 'Have you ever taken Tylenol? Well did you know that it can do damage to your liver by taking it?!". I also brought up that I thought that my acne could be a hormonal problem, & I asked him about birth control pills that would help clear my skin. This set him off again & he looked up at me & said 'There are other forms of birth control you know' in a VERY snotty tone. He stated that "birth control causes breast cancer". It has not been proven that birth control causes cancer, so for a Dr. to say something like that to his patients is wrong. His behavior was demeaning, rude & childish the entire time.

:) Click to report rating    1/24/08 5 5 4 I have been seeing Dr. Niren for a minimum of 20 years. Initially, he was abrupt but has mellowed. He has been more progressive than others I have seen and the results have always been positive. He is ahead of the curve on treatments. My skin in fabulous at 58. I respect and appreciate his knowledge in the field.

:( Click to report rating    1/21/08 1 2 1 Going to Dr. Niren was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. He was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional, and I felt like I was being attacked when I went to see him last week. I asked a simple question and he responded with something about global warming and then yelled at me for not taking this seriously. As a student I felt extremely intimidated to ask anymore questions and felt confused when I left his office due to lack of clear directions. His nurse was also extremely rude and instead of explaining my treatment process to me, she basically yelled at me telling me what to do. The medicine he prescribed worked, which is surprising because he spent about 2 minutes with me. After only seeing him twice I decided to switch doctors, and although I now drive an hour to see her, it is well worth it.

:( Click to report rating    12/18/07 1 3 1 There's more to Dr. Niren than a lot of us know. Check this out, from a Pittsburgh newspaper. He was accused of groping a patient. Cut and paste into your browser. www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/north/s_466605.html

:) Click to report rating    11/7/07 4 5 3 Dr. Niren is extremely intelligent, an expert, and like many who are very smart, some personality traits are left to be desired. Depending on the day, he can be very quick, short, and rude or very pleasant, which is probably why these reviews vary so much. Many different members of my family have gone to him, and we have all had great success, although some crazy stories to tell after appointments. You do have to be comfortable being assertive, and often it is hard to ask questions because he's in too much of a rush. If you bring up something else, he may seem annoyed - I tried to deal with this by making additional appointments or informing things like that ahead of time. One crazy story was that once I showed him a cyst I had found and almost without saying a word, he lanced it. Which was somewhat alarming to say the least. But every treatment has been very successful. So if you want someone who knows his stuff, I recommend him highly, but just be prepared!

:) Click to report rating    2/20/07 5 5 This is the most knowledgeable doctor around. The staff is brand new, since Sept. 2006, what a refreshing change. They are most kind, helpful, and are sympathetic to your needs, and are willing to schedule you as soon as possible. His wife is also knowledgeable and immaculate. I would trust my children and grandchildren with him, and in the case of Basal Cell Carcinoma, would see no other doctor.

:) Click to report rating    10/10/06 2 3 I'm a little displeased with the office. The entire staff seems to think they are supposed to arrive at the time the office is scheduled to open, leaving you sitting around because you showed up on time for your opening appointment. Dr. Niren seems to know what he's talking about, but everything is rush, rush, rush. I feel like I'm holding him up by asking a question.

:) Click to report rating    9/14/06 3 3 I like Dr. Niren but his one secretary tends to be short with the patients...I too, was unable to find my appointment card and she would not help me at all. The blonde in the office is exceptionally helpful and sweet! Do not lose your job or insurance as you will be asked to not come back if you get behind in your payments. From the one secretary, I was told that the Dr. did niot want to see me anymore and I was kind off taken by that as he seemed to genuinely care about what happened to me. Everytime I went I was given several more prescriptions to fill and things became quite costly!! As for the Dr.....He is very knowledgable and helped me immensely with what turned out to be psoriatic arthritis. Because of Dr. Niren's help I have been able to successfully manage this disease - even though I am out of work and with no insurance!!

:) Click to report rating    9/7/06 4 5 I have been going to Dr. Niren for years for a variety of skin ailments ranging from adult acne and roseaca to suspicious moles. I also have botox injections for my forehead lines. He has always been professional, kind and very, very informative. I trust him IMPLICITLY and will take my children if the need arises. The office staff is always nice, but I do think they should convert to an automated scheduling system.

:) Click to report rating    8/23/06 4 4 very helpful and knowledgable about acne and Accutane. New system for Accutane is very confusing and time consuming for office staff, but I found them to be helpful and patient in entering my son into the system. Both of my sons look wonderful after treatment. I have used Dr. Niren for years for various skin ailments and he has always been professional. He is sometimes a bit rushed, he is quick and to the point. His assistant is also great at answeering questions if he went too fast for you. As a nurse, I feel he really knows his stuff, but is maybe a bit too fast for some older folks fo follow.

:( Click to report rating    7/31/06 1 1 Went to Niren for about 5 years and he did nothing to help my Acne. Also coincidentally I got planter's worts from getting a pedicure at his wife's spas and went to get them treated by him and after a year he still couldn't do anything. VERY SHADY. So I switched to Obagi and within a week my warts were gone and my skin was clearing up. Don't trust this guy.

:) Click to report rating    7/27/06 3 3 Dr. Niren is very thorough in his treatment and follow up care. He is always pleasant and has a great bed side manner. His staff, however, could use some training when it comes to interaction with patients. I called to say I had lost my prescription and asked if another could be written or called into my pharmecy. I was told by Sharon that 'common sense would tell me to get my script filled in a reasonable amount of time'. I found her comments to be completely rude, unprofessional and out of line. I understand my losing the script was my error, but to have her speak to me in the manner she did, was uncalled for.

:) Click to report rating    7/6/06 4 5 Dr. Niren is an excellent doctor. He cured my stubborn cystic acne in two years. I now have perfect skin. He is approachable, concerned, and highly knowledgeable. I highly recommend him for anyone with acne. I cannot say enough good things about this doctor.

:) Click to report rating    6/1/06 2 5 Dr. Niren is a great doctor but has quite possible the rudest staff alive. It's not his fault, he's so busy seeing patients he might not know what's going on up front. It takes 3 months just to get an appointment. And oh, by the way, don't lose your appointment card, if you do, they won't look it up for you. In fact, they might just offer to reschedule you for three months later, or just yell at you and hang up on you. How do I know? Because it happened to me. The secretary told me it might take her 3 hours to find my appointment date, and she just wasn't going to do that. So while I was talking to her she just hung up on me. Super rude. Great doctor, just a horrible and unpleasant staff.
