16/07/14 5 5 5 5 The moment I stepped in I left welcome and the staff was very helpful on keeping me informed, they explained to me that Lasek is a procedure that is 10x safer then Lasik because they don't cut into your eye, I would absolutely recommend this to everyone who is thinking about getting laser eye surgery, I'm glad I was able to find the safest place for my procedure.  Respond

02/07/14 5 5 5 5 I went in for a free consultation and Dr. Chynn and his staff are very professional and friendly. They thoroughly explained the LASEK procedure and even invited me to watch the surgery live. They are very confident of their work and I am convinced enough to go through the workups to get the procedure done ASAP! They addressed all of my questions and fears and I learned that it is much safer than LASIK. I feel very educated about what I'm gonna have done, which is awesome because doctors don't usually explain things in detail for patients to understand. There is also complimentary water/tea/coffee and the HONY book (which I've been dying to look at) in the waiting area! :D  See Responses

04/06/14 5 5 5 5 Dr. Chynn is the best! He has me seeing 20/20. I was wearing glasses for over 30 years. Dr. Chynn changed all that. His staff is wonderful. I actually miss them. He is a great doctor. Do not hesitate to have the Lasek procedure done by Dr. Chynn. It's the best choice you will ever make.  Respond

17/09/13 2 4 5 5 Being a physician myself, I have seen Dr. Chynn operate when I was a medical student and he has very good hands. That is why I used him for my Lasek vision correction eight years ago (~2005). A high school graduate can perform Lasek these days but if there's a complication you better make sure the opthal can handle it. Even though I think his personality leaves much to be desired, I don't go to a surgeon for their personality. Despite his costs and personality issues, I would have no issues using Emil Chynn again if needed.  Respond

19/04/13 5 4 5 5 I can easily say I am really glad to have chosen to have my eyes corrected by Dr Chynn(after all, how many times will I be able to say that in the future! lol). The staff at Park Avenue Lasek were all really friendly, relaxed and professional. I had absolutely no pressure at all into getting any specific procedure done and they made sure I was a proper candidate and that I understood the process well. They were extremely helpful with every step of the process, answered any questions I had and although they were a bit strict with us taking the precautions necessary afterwards, it has been well worth the result. They were also extremely flexible when it came to medical insurance and helped to make sure I got the best coverage possible for my medications. After 1 week, I went from seeing 20/80(had only 1 eye corrected) to 20/25. After two months, I have got 20/15 vision! I have absolutely no side effects like dryness or pain at all(at this point). Can't be more happy about that.

12/04/13 5 5 5 5 Dr Chynn is super nice and very helpful. I came in to have my eyes checked. I have a special case and It has been really hard for me, I can potentienly go blind and it is a very scary thing. He made me very comfortable and explained every thing about my condition and immediately took action and I felt better right away. The staff is very pleasant and super sweet. I really recommend this office to anyone! He is amazing!

22/03/13 5 4 5 5 Dr. Chynn and his staff know what they're talking about. Period. Every question I've asked has been met with nothing but professionalism and a genuine desire for me to have all the info I need. All the staff members are friendly and I personally love Dr. Chynn. People may not get his sense of humor and be offended, etc. but I actually love it and think he's super funny, which helped alleviate any anxiety I may have had about the procedure. He is very efficient and as a result, doesn't beat around the bush, which I definitely appreciate. p.s. What sealed the deal for me was the fact that Dr. Chynn PERFECTED this process. I mean, why go anywhere else when you can go directly to the person who perfected it? He does the surgery in a room that has glass walls, so that anyone walking outside can see it as well. Talk about super confident! That's what I would want from any doctor doing a serious procedure on me.

22/03/13 5 5 5 5 I want to express how grateful I feel for Dr. Chynn and the rest of his administrative and medical staff. I arrived to his clinic to start fellowship 2 years ago, I barely spoke English, and I am an ophthalmologist who came to the United States from my private practice in Bolivia. Though I could have come through the SF Match, I didn’t so that I could take advantage of a more flexible, part-time schedule to take care of my kids. My first 3 months were a very hard challenge for me. I don’t regret about this since it made me a really self confident, strong person and an excellent clinician with my patients. All the people around me were nice and collaborative. They were able to help and clarify my curiosities and ignorance. The clinical experienced acquired with Dr. Chynn is invaluable. He is a very smart and demanding person (in fact, sometimes very intimidating) but this is the way he is. It took me some time to discover the real value of Dr. Chynn and that great person he is.  Respond

13/02/13 5 5 5 5 I've been doing a lot of research on laser vision correction over the years because I'm very particular on getting the best possible procedure for my eyes. I visited a handful of centers but each time I was let down by the kind of information that the centers provide. At several centers, I only got to meet with a technician even though I made an appointment with the doctor that they advertise excessively on their websites. Park Avenue SafeSight was a unique center that actually had MDs who are practicing ophthalmologist who were able to explain in depth the safe procedure that they offer. The doctor performed an impressive, comprehensive eye exam before Dr. Chynn himself came in to personally discuss my case intensively. This type of attentive care really impressed me and convinced me to choose Dr. Chynn over all other possibilities. It's been about 3 months since my surgery and I graduated last month with 20/15!

Gustavo Briceno

27/11/12 5 4 5 5 The sight made it clear that the caliber of care would and attention to detail was in every aspect of the staff. I called, made my FREE consultation and was not disappointed. In fact I was never more excited @ this cutting edge technique of NO CUT, NO FLAP making it SAFER than the older technique that is still widely used elsewhere. Even more excited is how affordable it is at Park Avenue Lasek. The staff is also great. It helps that most have had the procedure done themselves so when they talk its with firsthand experience. Dr. Almeida answered every question I had and proved very patient and knowledgeable. And Dr. Chynn oversees ever aspect and is right there to personally meet with and answer any additional questions that each client has. If youre interested in vision correction than Park Avenue Lasek is THE place. And if youre not interested in laser vision correction I challenge you to just take a few minutes to look at their site. 14/05/12 4 4 5 4 After a number of recommendations and witnessing a few success stories first hand, I have decided to put my eyes in the hands of Park Avenue Lasek. They are the only practice in NYC that does the LASEK surgery without any cutting! This is what makes LASEK different from LASIK. This SafeSight non-invasive approach is 10 times safer. After my colleagues success story I immediately scheduled my consultation, luckily its free. The Doctor answered all of my questions and concerns with ease. The quality of this procedure is different than any other in New York City. One large hesitation I had before committing were the financials of the procedure. Park Ave Lasek had an agreement with my company, as they do with a larger number of NYC businesses. Also they offer a number of different ways to make this affordable for a variety of budgets. In my opinion this is a great value for the quality and attention you and your eyes receive at Park Avenue Lasek! Park Avenue Lasek 212.741.8628  Respond

14/05/12 4 5 5 5 My surgery went without any complications and I have been following all the post-op protocols. I like how Park Avenue LASEK has a very standardized protocol; there were several checklists to be met prior to surgery. Even street parking wasn’t allowed due to the fact that a companion was mandatory. I felt like this place had everything down to a science! I’m approximately 5 days post-op; I’m still seeing slightly blurry but improving every day. It takes approximately 3-4 weeks for my vision to fully correct. I know this is longer than traditional LASIK where the patient can wake up the next morning and everything would be 20/20. However, during my research I have learned that there are far more complications with a corneal flap. With Dr. Chynn’s LASEK procedure, no flap is ever made, a more precise measurement of your vision can be achieved and decreasing the chances of long term complications in exchange for a longer recovery period is absolutely worth it. JUST DO YOUR RESEARCH!  Respond

He is very knowledgeable, professional and took his time to answer all of my questions ( I had a lot). What really convinced me to put all my trust in him is the fact that he performs his surgery in his own Operating Room in front of Pedestrians! He must know what he is doing, otherwise his Operating Room would be in the back where no one can see. I then scheduled my surgery, Its on March 21st. I will keep you all updated! Wish me Luck!!!!!

29/02/12 1 4 2 3 Dr. Chynn's medical background is great, but his bedside manner and that of his staff (with Dr. Puri and a couple others being exceptions) is horrendous. In particular, his front office staff is rude, aggressive, and unaccomodating. They will hound you into making your payment in full starting with your very first visit and, after you do, you will get very little cooperation from his staff. So, if you prefer to see a certain Dr. during your post-op visits, or need a copy of your medical records for whatever reason, you will be stonewalled into submission. Moreover, if you are one of the unlucky few who do develop complications from this procedure (e.g. chronic severe dry eye syndrome, excessive halos and starbursts in the dark making driving difficult, infection, etc.), God help you if you received surgery at Chynn's office. The front office will not help you at all and they will certainly not let you see any of the doctors. Moreover, the friend who referred me was never compensated.

29/02/12 4 5 5 5 I had LASEK performed here in Dec 2011 and it went well. Very knowledgeable and competent Dr with a great staff, attended to details, made sure I knew pre-op and post-op procedures correctly. I recovered rapidly and see 20/20 today. I have no side effects. Would recommend this to anyone who does not see well and wants to stop paying $$ every month for contacts or every year for glasses.

30/11/11 4 4 5 5 I had the surgery done here by Dr Chynn almost 2 years ago, and I am thrilled with the results. My prescription before was -5.75, and I wore glasses/contacts for 30 years (from age 10-40)...unable to function without one or the other....so I feel such freedom now. Before, my vision was blurry further than about a foot away from my face, and now I have perfect 20/20 vision. I got the "monovision" to avoid needing reading glasses. I really have no complaints at this point, and would do it all over again. It has truly changed my life. The price is comparable to the flap procedure, and it will actually save me money in the long run since now I don't have to keep paying for eye exams and buying a new pair of glasses every year or two and new contacts constantly. Not to mention the cost of doctors visits and medication for eye infections from overuse of contacts that I'll save over the years. Even if contacts and glasses were free, freedom from them is worth more than the surgery.

24/09/11 5 5 5 5 I had a great experience with Dr Chynn and had my surgery done 14 years ago with him- I'm surprised by the other reviews. He did a great job of explaining what would happen, the risks, and side effects ( with the surgery used at that time, the need for reading glasses possibly sooner and poor night vision). He can be direct with how he speaks and like most Dr's you feel they don't have a lot of time for small talk but I know he is excellent at what he does. I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else (and I buy my veggies from the rudest farmer you've ever met because simply, they taste the best)  Respond

23/09/10 5 5 5 5 Dr. Chynn is a bit eccentric in his directness, which some people interpret as rudeness. In reality, he is a direct person and the things he says are because he cares that people do things right. Professionally, he is a great surgeon, and his staff are always willing to help you. He does reward people financially for positive testimonials, and that kind of practice does encourage biased reviews, but that's how he "pays" for marketing. I don't think paying for posting positive reviews in unethical. You don't have to if you don't want to. I'm posting this without any of that bias, and I think he is a great doctor and his place is the best to get LASEK in the NYC area.  Respond

04/06/10 5 5 5 5 I decided that I needed LASEK (does not cut a flap), and did not want LASIK because I am very physically active and cannot risk damaging a flap. LASEK is newer and safer than LASIK, because it does not involve cutting a flap. Park Avenue Laser Vision is a great place to get LASEK because the staff are all very approachable and are knowledgeable, so I felt welcome. Dr Elias Almeida and Dr Jyoti Puri did all of my testing and explained everything. I was excited about the surgery and even a little nervous, but they give a pill to relax you for the surgery, and eyedrops so that you feel absolutely no pain. Dr Almeida sterilized my surgical site and made sure that I was prepared. When the surgery began, I felt very calm, listening to my own music being broadcasted on the operating room speakers. The laser time for each eye only took about 30 sec. I highly recommend Park Avenue Laser Vision, and I trusted my eyes to this place only. more information on parkavenuelaser.com  Respond

26/05/10 2 1 1 3 I am surprised Dr. Chynn is still in business - he is borderline criminal. He attempts to bill insurance company for "free" consultation, submitting several claims. He hires staff (claimed to be MD's, but who is checking?) that are not specialized in eye care - experienced techs or ODs are more knowledgable than Dr. Chynn stuff. I went there for free consultation for LASEK, and had to "beat them off with a stick" - high pressure sales and rushed service. And it's not brilliant Dr. Chynn who comes up with a Rx to put into laser machine - it's one of his foreign so-called MDs. So, all his credentials are good for getting people into the office, but you'll see him on your surgery day only - pre-op and post-op are not his duties. Dr. Chynn should be in finance industry, not medicine.

The ethics of this place are horrible, as well as staff/ friendliness. I never would suggest going here unless high pressure sales is your thing (could not imagine it would be when shopping for your eyes). 06/02/10 5 3 4 5 I am a couple of months past my operation at Park Avenue. I went to have both distance and reading improved. I can drive, both day and night, my vision is 20/15. I can read most of the time without reading glasses. Only late at night when my eyes are tired do I use cheap 4 dollar reading glasses. Dr. Chynn and his Fellows tell me that will keep improving. LASEK is more expensive than LASIK, but these are your EYES, you can't even correct for reading with LASIK.?

01/06/09 4 2 4 5 I had my Epi-LASEK surgery the Wednesday before Memorial Day (5/20/09) so I could heal during the long weekend, and be back at work that Tuesday. It was done at Park Avenue Laser Vision to correct my Rx of OS -3.25 and OD -3.75. I posted a YouTube video (username: "herbrock17"). How did I come to choose having my surgery at Park Avenue Laser Vision, you ask?? I did a TON of research prior to selecting Dr Chynn. First was the no cutting, no flap LASEK procedure (different from LASIK). Second was Dr Chynn's credentials (Dartmouth, Columbia, Harvard, Emory, NYU...and he's a member of MENSA)!! Third is he has 12,000+ cases with ZERO LAWSUITS for complications...compared to a certain other LASIK practice that advertises on NYC radio stations, but who has almost 100 pending lawsuits for flap complications, etc. Fourth, at PALV are DOCTORS who went to medical school who do your eye tests and CustomVue scans versus the TECHNICIANS at other practices who have not gone to medical school.

07/02/09 3 3 3 1 The postop care and diagnostic service provided are sub par at this laser clinic. I followed up with the clinic past the 6 month mark because the glare/ghosted issue from one of my eyes never subsided. I decided to make an appointment with hopes that they will be able to diagnose the issue. Instead, my problem was attributed to dry eye without any test. However, I know this was not the case because I had a second opinion from a prominent dry eye specialist. It also took a few visits before someone acknowledged the fact that I had irregular astigmatism. Even though there are MDs at this clinic, I doubt any of them are cornea specialist. I'd probably get better service had I sought out tests performed at a university affiliated ophthalmology department. Very, very disappointed with the service provided. Be very careful if you are considering laser surgery. Do your research and find out the postop care before going through with the procedure.  See Responses

11/11/08 1 4 1 1 I went to his office after reviewing all the positive feedbacks online. As soon as I signed in for surgery, I found out how these positive feedbacks come from. His office will pay you for positive online feedback, or video you post on youtube. Like one guy mentioned in his youtube video, it is no brainier to promote this Dr since you will get $100. These people offered positive feedbacks never disclosed that they got paid for their feedbacks. I had surgery anyway and was hoping everything would go well. I got blurry vision after surgery, and still have not recovered yet. Later on, I found two people around me who had surgery in this office had similar issues as well.

18/10/08 5 3 1 1 In regards to Dr. Emil Chynn, I feel patients should know he is unprofessional, unethical and inappropriate before making this very important decision. He performed my laser eye surgery 4 years ago and I thought he did a great job. I recently had a recurrence of blurry vision in one of my eyes. He dismissed my symptoms, asking if I was a "nervous person," and then became nasty and threatening because I questioned him. He also yells at and demeans staff in front of patients. FYI: A second opinion showed I had a regression of an Astigmatism which could be corrected by a repeat Laser Surgery or glasses. Thanks-Jodi
