He is a butcher! He did a brow lift on me several years ago leaving me with a scar on my forehead and one eyebrow and eye higher than the other. I feel like he messed up my face for life!!
This guy gave me what is called Empty Nose Syndrome which is a medically surgically caused problem. It can happen after over aggressive nasal surgeries. In 2006 I saw him with problems of basic nasal congestion and after failure to respond to sprays, he talked me into a "Sub-Mucosa Resection" which is generally accepted as the best procedure with minimal risks. The only problem is that is not what he did. While I was asleep, he did a "Sub-total Turbinectomy" which is a completely different procedure. SMRs are supposed to reduce nasal turbinates from withing and preserve the 3D shape and continuity of the mucosa tissue. What he did was cut them off with scissors leaving me with stumps for nasal turbinates. I felt worse after the surgery and my sleep got worse. Breathing felt absent but I didn't know what Empty Nose was then because I was never warned. ENS is a debilitating condition that gets worse over time, generally taking as much as 5-8 years to fully manifest itself. This guy ruined my life and has caused me constant suffering. I saw him 6 years later and he told me "people in the desert had their turbinates removed and were fine". There are many studies out there regarding turbinate reduction and most plead to be conservative, but this guy believes in the most aggressive studies and that is what he does. he cuts them out, so stay away from this guy and keep your health.
Going to Dr. Allegra for sinus surgery was the worst mistake of my life. He said it was a minor surgery but removed *all* of my turbinates, created windows, did ethmoidectomy and more. There was no informed consent. Eight years later: I can't travel to dry climates. My nose gets so dry it is horribly painful and scabs. The windows affect my swallowing and speech. And, it turns out the surgery was unnecessary and did no good. It was supposed to heal a chronic cough from "sinusitis." The cough continued after the surgery. Finally a doc said to try "Nexium" which improved the cough 98 %. That is, the entire problem was due to simple GERD. Some doctors have indicated, in confidence, that Allegra is notorious in the ENT/plastic surgery community for performing overly aggressive and unnecessary surgery. Too bad no one has the guts to police their peers. He advertises on radio for business. Apparently doesn't get enough referrals.
I have had two surgerical procedures performed by Dr. Allegra and both end products were absolutely amazing. Childbirth did a lot of damage to my body and he was able to help significantly. The staff is nice and the anesthetiologist was amazing. I've never come in and out of surger that easily before. When I've gotten surgery at a public hospital you are one of many, here you feel like you are their only surgery in progress and get specialized attention.
Very caring and knowledgeable. First class organization. Amazing procedure. Made me be able to wear normal clothes again.
Felt comfortable with staff, surroundings, and procedure. But the outcome was disappointing. Hearing decrease and pain continued.Second opinion from another doctor detected collasped ear drum, needed replacement prothesis and ear tubes and remove cholesteatoma.Get a second opinion before surgery.
They can't bill correctly. They sent me a very confusing bill, when I asked them to explain it because it appeared they billed me for the same things 2x they couldn't. I am not happy with them at all.
I found Dr. Allegra professional, caring and extremely knowledgeable. I would recommend him to my family and friends. He has performed a number of procedures from snoring to a brow lift and I have been extremely happy with all the results.
I thought I was going in for a minor procedure but ended up having extensive surgery for what I now understand to be no good reason. It turned out the chronic cough was not due to sinus problems at all - it was GERD. It did not improve with surgery but did improve with Prilosec. The MRI or whatever showed minimal evidence of sinusitus. Now I have what some people refer to as an "empty nose" - no more turbinates. After 4 years I continue to need painkillers at times. When I asked Allegra after the surgery he said that turbinates are not necessary. I normally would have gotten a second opinion, but he said that this was a very minor procedure. I gave Allegra a big frown and 1 point on helpfulness because he has harmed me, and a big smiley face and 5 points for service and knowledge. The staff ushered me in for surgery right away. After all, I have very good insurance. In terms of knowledge - Allegra deserves 10 stars! He knows *exactly* what he is doing.
