:) Click to report rating *  10/20/09 5 5 5 I have been with Dr. Kelman for 18 years and he is the BEST.I was young when I became his patient and I had a head injury that I did not understand. He took the time and made sure I understood what was happening to me with seizures.I wanted to get out of there and hide from the world but he new he had to get me to understand. He tried 3 different way to enplane and finally he told me my brain was like a car engine and every part of my body was a spark plug, the seizures are when the spark misses and tries to catch up.I then UNDERSTOOD. No other doctor would have taken that time with a patient. He will talk to you in layman's terms and he does not have to impress you with fancy words, that is a good doctor.

:) Click to report rating *  7/9/09 5 4 5 Dr. Kelman and his PA knowledgeably found the source of my memory problem (a migraine medicine) and recommended a successful change. He is extremely courteous and listens attentively - comes into waiting room to greet you each time. I'm stunned at some of these comments (although my treatment was not for seizures)

:( Click to report rating    12/30/08 1 1 1 I found Kelman curt, dismissive, arrogant, condescending, impatient and contradictory. I waited an hour before the robotic PA did a survey, becoming irritated whenever my answers did not match her choices. She rarely allowed me to elaborate. Dr. Kelman rushed into the room & announced that he was prescribing anti-seizure meds for my migraines. When I expressed concern about all the side effects they produce, he immediately dismissed me, saying they are "very well tolerated" and prescribed them for me anyway. Any points I tried to make about various meds he instantly contradicted, as if mere mortals (patients) are not capable of reading and comprehending medical information. He cut me off several times, gave me idiotic or vague answers to some questions, ignored others, and left the room while I was still talking. His inattention caused errors. The Rx refills are incorrect and insufficient to last until the suggested follow up appt. He shouldn't practice - no compassion, poor listener.

:| Click to report rating    12/10/08 2 4 1 I have been a patient of Doctor Kelman's for 23 years. This previous appointment will be my last. Read the other reviews below. They are accurate! If you have any seizure dissorder, this is definitely not the doctor for you. They lack all ability to communicate. The problem has been escalating for several years. When I brought this directly to Dr Kelman's attention today at our appointment, I was met with agitation and defensiveness. I was seeking alternatives and solutions. I mentioned I tried to contact him through the website. Since my phone calls went unanswered. The site is http://www.headacheatlanta.com. I was told they no longer reference it. This office needs to revisit there list of goals listed on the website. "The 5 E's".

:( Click to report rating    12/5/08 3 3 1 Well, I'm glad it wasn't "just me". He actually made a blonde joke with me. I recently colored my hair blonde and haven't gotten used to being seen as a "blonde", so when he said, "You're having dizziness? Well, you have the right hair for it." I was taken aback for two reasons (1) I wasn't thinking about my hair being blond, and then (2) did a doctor, a neurologist, just insult me?! Even without that inappropriate "joke," he was really distant, know-it-all attitude, didn't listen, and made it seem like you shouldn't be there bothering him for no reason. He offered to do a few tests, but implied it wasn't worth it since, I guess, there was nothing wrong with him. A month later I was calling 911 because I was extremely dizzy and nauseous. Fortunately, the EMS providers were more attentive and took me seriously.

:( Click to report rating    11/19/08 2 2 1 I found Dr, Kelman and his nurse pact. to be very rude and unhelpful. Dr. Kelman just continues to see patients without any intention of actually helping your condition. he has a known it all attitude, and should remember to listen to this patients signs and symptoms and no two patients are alike. If I did not follow my better judgement and listen to this dr. I would surely be OVER MEDICATED. He has no bedside manner and spends about 5minutes listening to you, prior to cutting you off. I think he likes to listen to himself speak. he is walking out the room before you can even get a question out of your mouth. This doctor is terrible and should retire before it's too late for someone. He will just keep seeing you to bill the insurance and then when his brain has stopped and he can not think of any other bs to keep you coming back to his office you are on your own..what a waste....

:( Click to report rating    10/15/08 3 2 1 I had the same experience countless other patients posting below have had. Exactly the same!! These can't be "bad days" with all these experiences documented. Just avoid all together. Your time would be better spend seeking treatment elsewhere.

:( Click to report rating    9/23/08 3 1 1 I was referred to Dr. Kelman for my chronic migraines/headaches. Over an hour late to my appointment first off. First I met with Deborah Blank (nurse pratitioner) to interview me about my symptoms. She seemed to strongly not want to be there at all. All she cared about was a definate yes or no answer to complete her checklist of symptoms. Many of my symptoms did not fit in a definate yes or not, so I elaborated and she repeatedly cut me off by saying "I don't need to know that". As they were symptoms directly relating my my headaches, I felt this was rude and unprofessional of her. I was ushered into the examination room waiting another 30 minutes for Dr. Kelman. The first thing he said coming into the room was "I don't know what's wrong with you, and I don't know if anyone can help you". Very encouraging... He spent 2-3 minutes with me, not paying attention to my answers for the brief questions he asked. Just prescribed a medication I had been on already with no results.

:( Click to report rating    7/10/08 1 2 1 It took one visit for me to determine that this is a doctor that I will not return to. The nurse practitioner (CNP) gathers all of the information from the patient. On the day of my daughter's visit, the CNP appeared to be just "going through the motions" and didn't appear to want to be at work. When the doctor appeared, he commented that my daughter's illness was complex. Yet, he spent no more than 5 minutes with us which entailed providing prescriptions. He was not interested in appropriately responding to questions and was walking out the door as I was asking a question. My daughter was in the emergency room later that afternoon after having a seizure after taking one of the meds he prescribed. I called the office concerning this complication and the CNP was harsh and denied that the medication was the cause of the seizure. The negative comments concerning this doctor are all accurate. I'm convinced that the positive comments must be from friends and/or relatives.

:( Click to report rating    6/20/08 3 2 1 Dr. Kelman was appalled at the amount of medication I was taking, and demanded to know who prescribed it. When I told him that *he* was the prescriber, he called me a liar! It was all in the chart, of course. He misdiagnosed me, in large part due to his established tendency of not giving much credence to what patients say. The worst thing, though, was when he spoke badly of other health care professionals ("she must be an idiot.").That was the straw that broke the camels back... and prompted me to get a *real* neurologist...

:| Click to report rating    5/12/08 4 2 3 I am person new to headaches. I was impressed with the knowledge of his nurse practitioner Ms. Blanke. She spent the most time with me, asking all the questions to get to the core of my headaches. She explained migraines to me, including possible triggers. Dr. Kelamn did appear very rushed and bothered by the questions I had. Ms. Blanke stayed after he left the room and explained the medications prescribed to me including how to take them and went over all the side effects again. I was never told I would see a nurse practitioner or asked if it was ok. Maybe the patients should be told up front they may see a nurse practitioner and this would help with any issues that arise.

:) Click to report rating    5/8/08 5 4 5 Certainly the negative comments made regarding Dr.Kelman are inaccurate, not to mention inappropriate. The staff for Dr.Kelman's office is efficient, professional, and empathetic. I have in my experience had the opportunity to work with many offices and I am personally in the health care industry myself; no office compares when you speak of accurate diagnosis, excellent customer service, or provider bed side manner. The great and unusal experience I had at my visits was the opportunity to see a thorough and knowledgable nurse practitioner, but Dr.Kelman as well, all at the same visit. Although the patient may see the nurse practitioner, Dr.Kelman still keeps it personal, by seeing every patient. Dr.Kelman, thank you for allowing me to have a better quality of life by managing my headaches.

:) Click to report rating    4/29/08 5 3 5 First of all, my million dollar question is why would you stay with a physician so long if the care was so bad. Unfortunately, the economy, politics, and insurance reimbursements has made it difficult for a doctor to just practice medicine alone, forcing doctors to employ nurse practitioners. Dr. Kelman is one of the best doctors in neurology and has certainly afforded me a better lease on life with the treatment and care I have received. Doctors responsibilities are to treat and care for the patient and not baby sat people that need a boost in self confidence.

:( Click to report rating    4/24/08 2 2 1 This doctor is unconcerned, uncaring and doesn't have time to really talk to you. Most interaction is done with the RN, Rx per Dr. Kelman. The staff is rude and billing is the worst I have ever encountered. Don't overpay because they will not reimburse you. Will never go back.

:( Click to report rating    4/1/08 1 2 1 Sorry to report that Dr. Kelman has grown beyond his ability to provide care that is personal. His staff is the worst and the comments about his 2-3 minute visit is accurate. I've been seeing Dr. Kelman f or 17 years now but I'm concerned about his staff monitoring my meds. I will seek the assitance of a less hurried practice.

:) Click to report rating    2/17/08 5 4 5 this office has one of the most helpful, cheerful, compassionate front office person by the name of April. The doctor is extremely knowledgeable, well informed in the most up to date medications and their usefulness to his patients. He does not mixed words with you, he is very direct and to the point. If you want to be talked to like a baby, the go see a pediatrition. but is you want an honest opinion and a direct answer to your questions, he will give you one. Yes, you may have to wait a few extra minutes to be seen, but you are getting the best care by one of the best n neurologist in atlanta.

:( Click to report rating    1/30/08 2 1 1 Do not go to this doctor for severe and chronic headaches. You will wait in his office over an hour only to be see the actual doctor for all of 2 minutes, while he talks a mile a minute and doesn't have time for your questions. When you are in severe pain and call up for help you can never talk to the doctor, the nurse is rude and they offer no assistance, i.e. "no don't go to the ER but no there's nothing else we can give you for your pain." What is that? Oh yeah, after going to see him for 4 years, and during which he helped me very little (I admit I have very stubborn chronic daily headache) he never mentioned to me the idea of getting an occipital nerve block. When I asked him about it oh sure he could do it! He should have suggested this to me, I was relying on him to be the expert. Also he will not suggest complementary medicine so do not expect him to support other approaches he does not offer (biofeedback, acupuncture, etc).

:( Click to report rating    1/28/08 1 3 1 This neurologist has a very cold bed side manner. I would not go back to him. There are PLENTY of excellent doctors who are also friendly and caring. He's rude, short, and does not like to explain himself. He has a god complex like old fashioned doctors. He needs to retire.

:( Click to report rating *  1/17/08 1 3 1 I went to Dr. Kelman for approx. 6-1/2 years with chronic daily migraines. I totally agree with all of the comments about his office staff's rudeness and not believing you when you call in. Also, I was truly over medicated. I made a decision to change after Dr. Kelman added in yet another med when I went in June & my headaches were worse, making it a total of 6 daily meds I was taking for prevention! My side effects were unbelievable! I, too, thought he was great in the beginning, but over time, I tired of spending 98% of my visit with the physician assistants and seeing him 2 to 3 minutes. I changed to a new neurologist in September, and he was truly horrified at what I was taking. He said many of my daily meds CAUSED migraines as side effects, which I knew because I had found on the internet, and 2 of the meds interacted! I am weaning to 1 med per day!!!! Feel great and headaches greatly reduced. I did not receive care and attention I needed from Dr. Kelman.

:( Click to report rating    1/14/08 2 2 1 Miss diagnosed me for 1 1/2 years. Continued to add strong meds despite no pain releaf. I ended up in the ER due to drug interactions and prescribed overdosing. When I called him the day after the ER visit to discuss how to change my meds he was rude and uncaring. He said he couldn't help me because he wasn't in the office and didn't know what I was taking. When I ask if I should call back when he was in the office he said no that he would see my next appointment. His nursing staff is equally rude and always doubted my reports of pain.

:( Click to report rating *  12/10/07 1 5 1 A severe lack of comapssion when it comes to missed appointment charges. If you have a migraine and take the pain killers Dr. Kelman perscribes, you obviously cannot drive to your appointment. But there is no voice mail to leave a message, and they don't care anyway, because they will charge you the $25, even though this will not be adequately disclosed to you beforehand. The doctor and his staff will have absolutely no compassion for you!

:( Click to report rating    9/10/07 1 2 1 Dr. Kelman, in my opinion, is inept, hurried, and careless with his patients. On the two occasions I went to Dr. Kelman for care regarding excruciating headaches he allowed 95% of the diagnosis to be performed by his physician assistant, Debra Blank. This resulted in a misdiagnosis, not to mention dealing with an even more inept, cross, and downright abrasive so-called medical professional. On the second visit I informed Dr. Kelman that the medication he was peddling was doing nearly nothing to alleviate my headaches. Rather than attempting a different approach he simply told me to increase the dose. I objected and he simply left the room. The office staff is barely literate (as I discovered in trying to correspond with them) and they admittedly are woefully understaffed. I feel this results in the stereotypical medical office factory environment, and even more frightening, it results in potentially deadly misdiagnoses. Shameful.

:( Click to report rating    9/9/07 2 4 1 Very rude to me. He tried to rush me through the appointment. I had questions that were important to me. After I had asked a few, he told me I obviously wasn't listening because he had already covered a particular topic I asked about. (He hadn't -- not fully. Even if he had, he should have explained it again since I still had concerns.) I told him there was no need to get persnickety. He said there was no reason for him to have to repeat himself. I ended the office visit. I told him I didn't want a doctor like that and it just wasn't going to work out. He stormed out like an angry child and slammed the door. I never went back.

:) Click to report rating    6/2/07 5 5 Dr. Kelman is THE best neurologist in Atlanta - hands down! He is exceptionaly knowledgabe and understands how much patients suffer. He is just so kind and caring that I keep wondering what is going on....surely I am not in a neurologist's office! More doctors should train under Dr. Kelman to learn how to practice good medicine and still treat the patients as people, not problems. Cannot recommend him enough!!!
