21/03/13 1 1 1 1 I would NEVER recommend this doctor. He has the bedside manner of a porcupine. I went in for a non-cosmetic issue, and he kept trying to push plastic surgery -- which was extremely insulting. He was rude, didn't listen to what I said, and continued to try to sell a service I wasn't interested in. When my surgery failed I was understandably upset. He saw me tearing up, and asked in an insulting, sarcastic, and insensitive way, "So why are you crying?" He didn't believe that I had followed post-surgery instructions 100%. He said we could discuss alternatives, but that I'd have to book another appointment to do so instead of discussing them while I was there and upset. I would NEVER use him again and would not recommend him at all.  Respond

13/09/12 5 5 5 5 I went to Dr.Sykes over a decade ago because many of my friends (NFL cheerleaders)were happy with his work. I was in my thirties and sure I needed a facelift for my acne scars..he looked at my face and told me I needed a nose job and I think brow lift at the time. I thought wow he was kinda bold to just state his opinion, but my gut said to listen to him. I went from trying to fix a defect to having men stop me to tell me how beautiful I am. I trust his artistic eye completley and have had EVERY FACE SURGERY that you can think of lol, done by him (hence the large price is total over the years)and have always been happy, and if there was an issue, he resolved it for me with no surgeon fee (one time my eye crease healed funny and he re did it for me when we were sure it had settled that way and I was still not satisfied)I am 49 years old and I look younger and prettier than when I met him.  Respond

14/07/12 5 5 5 5 A really good friend of mine referred me to Dr Sykes about 14 years ago, and I have seen him for all my facial surgery needs. Dr, Sykes is not only knowledgeable, but he really takes the time to answer all my questions (no matter how ridiculous or repetitive)He truly is a skilled professional during all my procedures not to mention has the utmost concern and care after your surgery too! I love the results with all of my procedures. I dont trust my face and care to anyone else but him.  Respond

15/06/12 5 3 5 5 I'm appalled at the ratings of Dr. Sykes. Several years ago he did a face lift for me, cheek implants, and neck and eye lift. It's now almost 10 years later and my girlfriends who have had neck lifts look like they need another one, but mine still looks the same as the day Dr. Sykes did it. I know that my girlfriend thought he was arrogant, I always found him to be a wonderful, compassionate caring Dr. When he was out of the country I had another procedure by another plastic surgeon and will never use any one but Dr. Sykes. He isn't arrogant, he just has a funny sense of humor that comes across as arrogance. I absolutely adore him, and only have praise for the wonderful work he has done for me. Since I'm now 67 years old, I'm considering facial fillers and know he's the very best in town. I went for a consultation and he spent over an hour discussing all my options. I've never felt rushed, and have always felt listened to and understood. He's a facial artist and the best!  See Responses

14/06/12 5 5 5 5 Dr. Sykes answered all my questions and made me feel very comfortable. He took his time to show me in the mirror how the procedure would make a difference for me. I was referred to him by several people so I knew he had to be good.  Respond

11/06/12 2 2 1 2 trust your gut feelings by reading all the reviews. they are true. I too was let down by dr. sykes. In due time I will probably have someone else look at my face lift that is a real dissapointment. Very arrogant and lets you know the out come is due to your bad genes (which he comes from very good genes) seriously. beware!  Respond

23/01/12 4 2 2 3 Do not go to him, I wish I had listened to the reviews and my inner doubts in dealing with him. He is far too arrogant to admit he may have done things wrong, very greedy and sloppy. He will insist the issue is you and your healing, not his skills or expertise. If you are not happy with the work, he will become defensive and offer to fix it at a price, so no follow-up or corrections included in the original fee. He will start to add on charges to fix what should have been resolved with the surgery. Do not let the credentials and titles fool you, you can find more skilled surgeons who actually care about patients elsewhere, and at a much better price. He is in it for the money and ego gratification and not much else unfortunately, including patient care. Do not go to him, you will spend more time and money having another surgeon fix what he did wrong.  Respond

30/09/11 5 3 5 5 I was considering Botox - but had questions first. Dr. Sykes office understood this, and for a $75 consultation fee, I had the doctor to myself for thirty minutes. He wasn't rushed, or distracted. He was pleasant, professional and articulate, and answered all my questions. I made my appointment for for the Botox two weeks later. He prefers a follow-up appointment for first-time Botox recipients which I like. It offers him a chance to see the results, and get feedback. For my $375, I saw the doctor for a total of one hour - pretty good for a cosmetic surgeon. Dr. Sykes does work in other countries, academically, and altruistically. His practice is a busy one, and I did have to wait 15 or 20 minutes to be seen. I prefer to pay for services which support fixing a child's cleft in the third world, rather than just a doctor's bank account.  Respond

26/06/11 5 1 1 1 I had a younger friend who was very satisfied with her necklift, so I went to Dr. Sykes too. I wish I had read reviews. I never saw him just before my surgery and he had staff see me for the two followups right after surgery. He is a very busy man! Is that good? The neck sagged significantly after a month though I followed all instructions precisely. I also had damage to a mandibular nerve, causing a drooping mouth, lasting 3 months. Months later, he redid the neck lift, with only moderate improvement in the sagging and a long visible scar under the chin. A year later, I paid another plastic surgeon to redo the sloppy work and now have a perfect neck and chin. Three surgeries, $18,000 out of pocket, a lot of lasting pain with Dr. Sykes' surgeries, minimal with the final surgeon's work. Please pay attention to the reviews. And be wary of paying for limited time in an afternoon appointment in the surgical clinic. He does do excellent Botox work and seems to care about children.
Paid (or co-pay): $14000

23/03/11 3 4 3 3 I went to Dr. Sykes to have a hump on my nose removed. 4 months after surgery it is still there. Use a different doctor for a rhinoplasty! I was very pleased with the work he did on my upper eyes and the fat injections. Tell him to hit the temples if needed with the fat injections or your face will look like a pear. We will see what he will do with the remaining hump.

15/11/10 3 3 1 1 For one of my procedures, I requested that he use the fat from my stomache for filling the lines in my face because I didn't want a lop-sided look on my butt. He promised he would use such a small amount that no one would be able to notice, but there is a significant difference in how my pants fit me as well as how I look in a bikini.  Respond

17/10/10 2 2 1 1 Dr. Jonathan Sykes is awful, please beware!! He scarred and deformed my family member for life and she now has a deformed mouth and had to endure three painful surgeries because of his negligence of failing to send her to a specialist and pathologist. Instead he practiced on her during three surgeries until we realized he was not competent. The pathologist also said he should have referred this case to him from the start. She had skin cancer near her lip and Dr. Sykes cut so much of her lip off while using her as his guinea pig! He also made off color remarks about the scars "well you don't have a modeling career". He was chatting away while he was cutting and trying to impress, I was so concerned he was not focusing on what he was doing. He did not get all the cancer and the painful surgery had to be performed three different times because of his incompetence. Again, she now has a terrible scar and deformed mouth. If he has hurt you or a family member please write a review.  Respond

06/07/10 1 1 1 1 As an RN, I was appalled at his practice. I had been warned by other doctors that his bedside manner left a lot to be desired, but as one doctor said, "ten years from now will his bedside manner matter?". So I took my daughter to him for reconstructive surgery and was appalled. Several times we had to wait for an hour to be seen, other times he never even showed up. Without fail, he never remembered my daughter or what her visit was for. When he wasn't present for her appointment, his office called him and he told his MA to remove her sutures. His staff missed 14 sutures!!! that I removed myself, and I had to admonish his staff for unclean practices while working on my daughter. My exact words were "I'm an RN, and if I practiced like that, I'd lose my license." I left then and there and never returned for the three remaining surgeries. I felt we were herded in like cattle, and it was all about the almighty dollar! Disgusting!!!  Respond

30/07/09 4 4 5 5 My son has seen Dr. Sykes for almost 10 years now and he has been nothing but great to my family. We are always hearing how great my sons cleft looks. I would and do tell people about Dr. Sykes all the time. My son loves to go and see him. Dr. Sykes and his staff have made it so my son is not afraid to go in for his surgerys.  Respond

19/10/08 2 3 2 2 I had a mid-face lift by Dr. Sykes. My jowls and neck sagged with lose skin. My jowls were 10-20% improved after the swelling receded. My neck was never tightly secured and he left a lot of loose skin. This may be what he means by an "un-operated on" look. His results show little noticeable improvement, likely because he removes minimal excess sagging skin. Isn't that a good deal of the problem? I had TWO second opinions, and BOTH surgeons, his peers, opinion was that Sykes' work was not up to industry standards. One Dr. estimated an additional $18,000 to finish Dr. Sykes' work. After surgery, he will tell you you need fat or restylane injected to fill your face, but there is way too much to fill. He performed a facelift and nose job on my girlfriend as well. She paid him $20,000 and is extremely disappointed. A tremendous amount of pain, time and money to still look old and tired. Ask for and insist on reviewing before and after photos.  Respond

11/07/08 4 3 1 1 I went to Dr Sykes, even though he had, had some bad PR. Turns out the PR was correct. I had a complete face lift in May 2007. I went back for my filal visit in June of this year, to discuss my dissatifaction, as my jowls look just as they did before he preformed the surgery. He informed me he could give me injections for $900.00. Well, excuse me I paid $15000.00 so I wouldn't have to have that sort of thing. I think this man should be investigated and have his liscense revoked. If you see bad PR on a Dr. please take heed, it may save you a lot of time and money. Now I have to save again, and have another face lift. If I had to do it again, I would have listened to the young woman whose eyes he messed up.  Respond

18/08/06 1 1 1 Worst experience I've ever had with a Doctor! I attended a surgery he did on my mother for skin cancer and could not believe how he behaved. Trying to make jokes and flirt with me while slicing on my mother lip trying to take off skin cancer. Telling me how he wanted to go to law school next, just really acting unprofessional. After her surgery, he called her back to tell her "he didn't get it all" and she needed to come back. Sorry to say, she did, he took off more of her lip, only to call back again to say "oops, he didn't get it all" and that she needed to come back, she did, (trusting this doctor)! Again, she gets another call from him "oops, didn't get it all" and I think I should send you to a specialist! She went, the specialist confirmed that Dr. Jonathan Sykes should have sent her to him from the start. Stay away from this Doctor, check to see where he went to medical school, don't believe the ad's he buys in the Sacramento Magine claiming to be Sacramento's Best Doctor.  Respond
