have waited a full year before writing my review so that I could be sure that my pain and suffering was actually due to Dr. Smith's negligence. I have a very rare bone disease and a serious allergy to ALL metals, including titanium. Both of these issues were made very clear when my husband and I came for my consultation. I broke my leg in two places, just above the ankle. In just a few days, I was in surgery to have a titanium plate and screws placed to stabilize my ankle and align the broken pieces. (We were told there were no other options.) I was repeatedly told that I would only have to endure the pain for 6-8 weeks and then the metal could be removed. Despite many post op appointments, several ER visits and a five day hospital stay, I was assured that the metal was not the source of the pain. Fast forward 9 months, we drove 12 hours to see a specialist in South Carolina. She removed the plate and screws (3 of which had broken in half) and immediately the pain subsided. Dr. Smith's dismissal of both the bone disease and the metal allergy were already difficult enough to digest, but every time I saw her all she talked about how nice the incision looked, despite the horrible pain I was in. After the second surgery, I was told that my nerve had been \"strangled\" by the plate, screws and scar tissue. My new surgeon was kind enough to move the nerve out of harm's way, which apparently isn't difficult to do. I now have nerve damage that may or may not ever go away. I would NOT recommend her services. She didn't care where she put that plate, she didn't care about the miserable pain I was in.
