:( Click to report rating *  12/25/09 1 1 1 I know some reading these comments may be thinking of seeing Bonati or some may have already seen him and found out about him. As a former patient of his, I beg anyone to NOT see this man. He disabled me and left me in terrible constant pain after doing multiple surgeries. I am on SS Disability because of his negligence. Those of you...and there are many...that have been harmed by him need to file a complaint with the FL Dept. of Health. Also talk to an attorney, though most won't take a case as he has no Malpractice insurance. He also has no hospital privileges in FL. A spine surgeon with no malpractice insurance and no hospital priveleges?? That should tell you all you ned to know. Check the St. Petersburg Times website for more info on this ****. The Board of Health recommended his license be suspended for LIFE in 2000. Somehow he was able to keep practicing and to this day he keeps disabling patients sucked in by their slick promotions and promises. Stay away from him!!

:( Click to report rating *  12/19/09 3 3 1 The problem with the ratings for this doctor are the validity. The positive ones are written using the same words as their marketing info (gave me my life back) so this has to be rejected. Many of the negative ones are almost identical. Sounds like the same person who is holding a grudge (so this too has to be rejected). My personal experience is both good and bad. Bottom line is - unless you have nothing to lose - do not operate.

:( Click to report rating *  12/5/09 5 4 1 I saw a man come in using a walker and go out with the wife carrying the walker BUT I would stay far away from him. I had failed open back surgery L5-S1. Bonati went in to clean up the nerve on a Wednesday. I was in agony the next day but since they do not work on Friday, I was left in a motel room for 3 days waiting for another procedure on Monday. I almost overdosed on Codeine. The operation on Monday still left me in agony taking huge doses of Percoset. He operated again on Wednesday. 3 operations in 9 days. After the third I was still in agony. Far more pain than I had when I came down to him. He wanted to operate a 4th time. I said NO and left for home. He collected insurance payments for all 3 operations. My local doctors say his surgery left me with scar tissue that is pressing on nerves that were never affected before he operated. There is no care or support except by the motel desk clerk if you have a problem

:( Click to report rating *  9/19/09 1 1 1 Please, please-Do not see this so-called doctor under any circumstances. His clinic is a scam and he is extremely unqalified to do any type of spinal surgery. Unfortunately, because of his surgeries, I am now severely and permanently disabled. And I am not the first. I walked into the Bonati Institute talking no pain meds, working part-time, and fully able to care for myself. Today I am severely and painfully disabled, not working, and barely able to care for myself. i had injured my back and spent 2 years trying to find answers. I went to some of the best doctors in the U.S.-Mayo, etc. Several things were tried but I had no luck getting relief. My main symptom was back pain, no leg pain but some legs symptoms(tightness, feeling of weakness) and tingling sensitivity in balls and toes of both feet. No doctor or surgeon ever recommeded surgery. Most warned against it. They saw no surgical answer for me. One day I saw an ad on the internet for Bonati. They made great promises.

:( Click to report rating    2/22/09 1 1 1 I ran across very troubling articles in The St Petersburg times about the above surgeon. My decision would not to have surgery there, based on what this article stated very informative article.

:) Click to report rating    2/13/09 5 4 5 Dr. Bonati and his staff are first rate. My previous "open" back surgery failed within 2 years and resulted in an incredible increase in pain because of the scar tissue it caused. I had all but given up hope until I found The Bonati Institute on the Internet. Dr. Bonati gave me my life back. His techniques freed me of pain in one procedure. During and after my stay at The Bonati Institute I spoke with over a dozen people who experienced the same incredible results that I experienced. Don't be misled by the multiple slanderous posts to this site by one person with an ax to grind. Go to The Bonati Institute's website or call them. They'll give you a list of patients who will talk to you about their experience at The Bonati Institute. You'll get a much truer picture of the effectiveness of these techniques.

:( Click to report rating    2/12/09 1 1 1 The so called Bonati procedures are a gimmick it is surgery performed through an arthoscope a tubular retractor, that is being done elswhere and is called metrx surgery, Also their are other clinics in florida laser spine and microspine, whose surgeons worked at the Bonati institute in the late 90;s. From what im told they left bonati because of all the lawsuits and medical sanctions against bonati.Bonati also declared bankruptcy from all his previous lawsuits, very shrewed business man he has three companies that milk the insurance companies. Dont believe me contact florida medical board it is public information. This doctor in my experience his horribile i need revision surgery due to his mistake, remember minimal invasive is not always the answer, minimal invasive equals minimally ineffective does not address the problem. I would not send the devil himself to have surgery with Alfred B

:) Click to report rating    2/3/09 5 4 5 When you're a patient at the Bonati Institute, you're part of the family. You are made to feel right at home, of course, in a professional manner. I can't imagine anyone who knows more about the spine than Dr. Bonati. Would I recommend them. Absolutely!

:(      2/1/09 1 1 1 If one chooses to have spine surgery choose wisely, Bonati has poor credentials and is not board certified by the abos, he has a horribile bedside manner and his accent makes him even more obnixous. I had surgery by alfred bonati and lost almost a liter of blood unheard of in so called minimal invasive surgery. Never let this surgeon touch you he might ruin your life, and for cervical spine patients beware posterior from behind neck surgery can leave you with even more neck pai. In my opinion I would not let bonati operate on my cat.Another note this doctor has been sued and almost went bankrupt, talk to any reputable lawyer in tampa or hudson they will not advice you see Bonati. One wonders with this mans horribile reputation the internet is a false hope to the truth deceptive marketing please research this place.

:) Click to report rating    1/28/09 5 4 5 I had surgery at the Bonati Institue with Dr. Bonati and would recommend any one with spine problems to contact them. I am now a full time RN student and just had a baby daughter and can only give thanks to Dr. Bonati and his entire staff of medical professionals to where I am at today.Thank you

:( Click to report rating    12/24/08 1 1 1 I had surgery there by Dr Alfred Bonati who is not associated with any hospitals in the area. Let me educate who will listen Florida has very lax regulations when it comes to medical malcpractice otherwise Alfred Bonati would not be practicing medicine. I can only speak from my experience this surgeon looks at your films and thinks he is God by guessing where you are having pain. Most good spine surgeons will always ask the patient where they are having pain or symptoms, this man thinks an mri is always right, and will perform surgery based on it. He looked at my films and wanted to do several surgeries, when only one was even warranted. Chills went down my spine and I knew this surgeon was only after money. Also this doctor has a very bad attitude, aggroant and nast to patients and staff alike. Run as fast as you can from Dr Alfred Bonati.

:( Click to report rating    12/24/08 1 1 1 One can not make this up doctor bonati is a horribile surgeon their are so many negative articles written about him. Their website is very slick excellent marketing on his part believe me I had surgery by bonati and I am in worse pain than before this doctor is a madman that cuts people open to make money. I have seen other surgeons who have almost fainted when I told them what bonati did.I would not reccomend anyone you love or care about have surgery at the bonati institute.

:( Click to report rating    12/20/08 4 3 1 Dr bonati is an meglomaniac.be very careful with this man,he will perform surgeries that you dont need for your money,i had three opreations and later a highly respected senior nuerosurgeon reviewed my case and informed me that the surgery was not needed and that he could easily have performed all the work bonati did in a single procedure!!he was extremely critical of bonati.

:( Click to report rating    9/28/08 1 1 1 I am in disbelief that in 2008 this doctor is alloweed to parctice medicine the way he does. The bonati institute has a slick marketing campaign, that attracts suckers from all ove the country believing these are some new procedures that are not done anywhere else, on the contrary other spine surgeons use metrx tubular retractors in microdiscetomys when possibile. This doctor believes that his surgery is a fix for all spinal problems, I am writing this to educate people on Alfred Bonati and his horribile reputation in Hudson Florida, he does not perform the correct surgery which is fusion in many cases. He also rips of his patients and insurance alike, he is set up in Florida due to the lax regulations on medical malpractice and oversight of doctors, anywhere other than florida this doctor would be bagging groceries. Proceed with caution if you have surgery there, I did not and will always be in pain due to this mans ****y of my spine. google this man

:( Click to report rating    8/18/08 1 1 1 Alfred Bonati is a scam artist praying on people in severe pain. His most recent lawsuit is in the St Petersburg times dated july 3, 2008, I individual is suing for damages caused by Bonatis unnessary and useless surgeries. Thi institute is outrageous their is no after care after a surgery, you are own your own, to suffer. I suffer everyday, due to this doctors ****y, and unortodox opinions, with all my heart and soul I tell anyone reading this Bonati may help you but in all reality will proabely make your situation worse. Stay far away from this place with empty promises. I have very limited financial means, but if I had wealth I would sue the hell out of this evil man.

:( Click to report rating    8/3/08 1 1 1 I hope I can save at least one person from these horrible spine institute, and alfred bonati. If you are like me and reading this your proabaly in a great deal of pain, you get on the internet and try to find what you think is a mircale. Well Alfred Bonati is far from that, he has performed the wrong procedure one me, and left me with micro instability, and a horrible failed surgery. I am in more pain than before the surgery. I wish I had done my research, medical malpractice lawyer in Florida told me about Bonatis many lawsuits and that he almost lost his medical license. Asimple google check would have sent most intelligent people running, although my pain had blocked my reasoning. Listen the world as we know is a corupt place, but when a medical professional performs the wrong surgery, and knows ti will not help you it borders on criminal. Please nnotebelieve Bonati is not even board certified by the abos american board of orthopedic surgery, he list bogus qualafactions. Another note

:( Click to report rating    6/30/08 1 1 1 I had a cervical spine procedure by dr Bonati, he performed a arthoscopic cervical formantomy. I have to tell you this procedure has destroyed me, I am in even more neck pain than before the surgery. I had a really bad feeling about this surgeon, before the operation, and I let him operate anyway. This doctor took advantage of my pain, and promised he could help me. My family friends warned me of his horrible reputation, I did not listen, I now have pain that can never be reversed to to the wrong approach of the neck surgery. A quick google check of bonati will justify what I have said of him. I was worried about losing my job with a cervical fusion, but now due to bonatis ****y I have lost my quality of life and self respect. I want to get the word out how harmful this man is. He thiks everything is realted to a nerve root problem, other surgeons who know of bonati have told me that bonati almost lost his medical license on several occasions. Another note this doctor is very arrogant,

:( Click to report rating    5/23/08 1 1 1 Please do not have surgery with Dr Bonati, he will promise to deliver you from pain, his surgery is all marketing, they are performing a standard microdiscetomy through a tube, with laser. Bonati seems to think everyone benefits from his surgery I did not I needed a fusion and wasted time and money and almost my health at the Bonati Institute. If their procedures were so great why would other doctors not want to perform them. Bonati has reaaly messed me up, now I need a revision fusion, because of this doctors greed in performing the wrong surgery on my spine. Google this doctors name and you will truly be alarmed at his past medical history.

:) Click to report rating    5/9/08 5 5 5 This doctor made me pain free for the first time in 12 years! I had failed neck surgery with severe pain, was on ms- and oxy-contin, morphine pump, etc. Now I am 5 months past my last surgery and completely off pain meds. I would highly recommend this doctor and his staff.

:) Click to report rating *  1/29/08 5 5 5 Dr. Bonati all but saved my life. I did not care about life anymore because of the pain. After 10 years in pain and over 20 procedures and a dozen MRI's, he diagnosed me in 10 minutes and had me out of pain the next day, zero pain. The best orthopedic surgeon in my area threaded a screw directly into a nerve. He removed the screw and cleaned up the nerve with a laser and closed me with 2 staples. I intend to get my neck fixed next. I had a lamoanplasty done from L3-L7 there at Mass General. The surgeon did a great job but I have horrible neurothropy still. Anybody who goes there and has only 1 surgery is making a mistaje. If you give him enough time he will find the problem and fix it. If I was 20 years younger I would go to med school just to work with him.

:) Click to report rating    1/4/08 5 4 5 This man is wonderful! I was in terrible pain for months. I am able to function again as a productive person. The Institute and staff were great and very caring. Dr. Bonati is a genius and the most understanding doctor I have ever met. He does not care about your insurance and what they pay or might not pay. His only concern is your health and to help make you pain free. Sure he may have some bad things printed about him, but cutting edge doctors usually do. Didn't they put the doctor in jail that invented pencillin? I would recommend him to my family and friends, and I have. If your going to do research-check out how many surgeons that have other facilites in Florida-all trained under Dr. Bonati. Maybe the people saying negative things about him are the ones that do not want to help themselves and get off the pain pills!!!!

:) Click to report rating    5/27/07 3 5 This guy is a genius! If you have back problems, this is the place to be. Don't let anyone talk you into open back surgery when Bonati can do outpatient surgery and fix you up! My wife had 3 surgeries and is completely pain free. Only 3 1/4 inch incisions and 1 1/2 inch one. www.bonati.com

:( Click to report rating    2/24/07 1 1 I would not go back there, thankfully I only had one procedure done. It was done in the neck and he wanted to do several procedures. He will operate on one disc on both sides of your neck. I have been to numerous other doctors who never would use this approach. I learned after the fact of his various lawsuits and unlawful conduct. He wanted to operate on another site that initially had no problems on the inital visit. Now he wants to operate and says there has to be something wrong there, that is the nerve path. It is true that they think operation first, than the diagnostic testing. He over charges the patient and the insurance company. Please research this man......especially in the Tampa Newspapers......

:| Click to report rating    9/30/06 1 2 dr Bonat is the worst person I have come across in a long time. He really messed up my neck, telling me innacurate information, he is brutally dishonest please do not use him, I am considering litigation against him, I am so angry and upset

:( Click to report rating    3/5/06 1 1 If you plan on seeing this doctor be prepared to sign surgery papers and do testing even before he has seen you. The whole staff had the patient prepared to have surgery before any tests or exams were done. His PA explained the surgical procedures that would be done to the patient before the tests were done and the patient seen by the physician. After an MRI, x-rays and EMG testing were done, the physician saw the patient, informed the patient that he needed surgery to correct his pain which was coming from the facet joints in his back. In reality, the patient had a very large tumor on his kidney and bone metastasis of cancer to his pelvis. I would advise anyone planning on seeing this doctor to check with the state of Florida for all litigations against him.
