I would highly recommend Dr. Zavod. She is extremely thorough. She may refer people to specialists but it is because she cannot be a specialist in everything. Also about 2 yrs ago I was in for a physical and she noticed a mole on my back that looked suspicious. She referred me to a specialist and it turned out to be a melanoma that was caught very early. They told me I was very lucky. I also though she was very business like and brisk at first. But I recently had some personal problems that were intertwined with my health problems and I was shocked when she proved to be very caring and compassionate about that. In general she gets down to business and gets the job done in a professional manner.

She is the worst of the worst. This lady makes a HUGE deal out of everything and had me convinced that my body was full of problems when really it wasn't. If you want to be anxious all the time about your health and have an uncaring, rude doctor, go for this one. She also has very low self-esteem.

I've used Dr. Zavod for several years now and she's my favorite pcp. I find her to be smart, thorough, and up on the latest literature. She comes into appts having already read through your chart and notes from last time and she reads the annual check-up paperwork carefully. She does move at a brisk pace, so it's helpful to list out all your concerns and questions in advance (ideally on the paperwork/questionnaire so she can read them.) She will order tests and refer you to experts, but in mind mind, that is part of being thorough. (I don't want a Dr. who thinks she is a magic eight ball.)

I am pt. of dr zavods and while i agree that her social skill may be somewhat lacking for my taste (she doesn't make a lot of eye contact), i have found her to be very thorough. while she does refer alot, i find this reassuring because i am going to a specialist immediately. She is a family practice doctor - not a gynecologist, orthopedist or dermatologist. I think a lot of the complaints people have are those who want a quick fix and feel entitles. They feel they already know their diagnosis and it sounds like they wanted the doctor to do what THEY wanted and not listen to an actual MD who has had years of training. I think too many people self diagnose and i am appalled to see how physicians over the years have been treated by people who don't understand simple medical treatments - if you have a cold it's a cold and there is no magic pill to take it away! The staff is very friendly and there are many services available in the same building.

I have never written a review for anything but when I saw this I had to add my 2 cents. I came to this Doctor feeling horrible not knowing what was wrong. Many diff symptoms serious enough to keep me from functioning. With 2 small children I was frantic to find help getting my health back. I have to say I have not found a less compassionate person who cared for nothing more than my 15 minutes of time being up. What's more she seemed most important with whether I had had a flu shot than my symptoms. I left utterly demoralized and frustrated. I haven't been to another doctor since because of her uncaring treatment. I would avoid this doctor at all costs unless you're just looking for a doctor that passes the buck and will give you an easy referral.

I had my second annual physical with Dr. Zavod last June. She seems capable and reasonably thorough. She had recommendations and referrals for my concerns, and since I just turned 50 she ordered appropriate baseline tests, including a colonoscopy. She has scheduled followup appointments to review test results, and kept them even when results seemed insignificant. Her physical included a prostate exam, saving me a trip to a specialist. I have seen many physicians over the years and would say she's not naturally warm or extroverted, but she is reasonably friendly and has a sense of humor. More importantly, she remembers things and/or takes good notes and picks up where we left off. She volunteers medical and health insurance advice that I believe are in my best interest. Her staff have been friendly and helpful. I'm satisfied and have appreciated the convenience of coordinating my healthcare within the Leahy network.

I had totally opposite experience. For years I had been uable to walk up a flight of stairs without being exausted. Doctors had put me on steroids for asthma. I was loosing hair because of the steroids. Zavod, because she listened to me when I said it did not feel like asthma because the medicine had no affect helped figure out it was a vocal chord disorder, not asthma. Also I am 57 and she has been very helpful in getting preventative physical therapy for bad posture and dietary help for over-weight. I now climb twice a week, I do 30-45 minutes of arobics a day, without my knees hurting, and I am 30 pounds lighter than I used to be. I find Zavod to be awkward socially but she always remembers everything I tell her about myself. At first I had doubts about Zavod because of her social skills but I am happy now, 3 years later.

I also had a similar experience. I complained of stomach pain on left side by gall bladder. I said I would like an XRAY since its been hurting for a bit.She said the XRAY would not yield much. I ended up going to another doctor and this doctor took the time to listen to me and I had the XRAY done. It found that I had a hernia in my upper stomach. He also had me get a blood test done for bacteria, which came back positive. Previously, Dr Z had performed a CBC but apparently that doesn't pick up the bateria. It just tells you the red and white totals. That said, I had bacteria in my blood for many weeks and felt like crap and I had the hernia. I was put on antibiotics for ten days and feel much better. Glad I decided to go to the second doctor. Had I not been persistent, there could have been a very strong chance that bacteria in the blood affected internal organs!!! Good thing I went to a doctor who gave me more than a few minutes.

I would not go to this doctor again for anything. While she may be knowledgeable since she is a Tufts Grad, her lack of a caring personality really does the trick. I would be very careful if you do decide to go to her. You will end up going to a million other specialists who just look at what is presented in front of them. DEMAND TESTS or you will spend so much money on co-pays and time off work that you will become beyond anxious. It is a sad state of affairs where our primary cares only have 5-10 minutes to listen to you and look at your symptoms. Maybe part of the reason here is under staffed health care providers as a whole but you need to spell out your symptoms and get second opinions. After all, this is your body. Why am I here? To remind-demand tests, find a doctor who doesn’t look at their watch while you are talking. Hopefully you will also have a staff that doesn’t side with the doctor and argue with you like this doctors staff does. Be persistent regardless of who you go to!!

I too felt rushed during the two or three times I went to her. She would refer me to many other "specialists" without really taking the time to listen to the full story. I think there is potential but the lack of self confidence is evident. You really need to ask several questions since she will not fill you in unless asked. I go since its close to my house and she was taking new patients..Overall, I would give her a 5 out of 10--It still beats waiting a year for a PCP to see you.

The best PCP I have ever had. For the first time in my adult life, I have a dr who knows who I am and I actually get to see her when I am sick. Extremely thorough. After my first visit (at age 35) she sent me for preventative/baseline visits (eyes, moles, mammo). Is very much into preventative medicine which can be frustrating if you are used to getting an antibiotic for every ailment. Very punctual. I never have to wait more than 15 min to see her. I am surprised by the comments about personality...I find her very pleasant and personable. I have recommended her to family and friends and they have been happy too.

I could take or leave her. Could definately use better people skills. Wouldn't prescribe me a simple inhaler that i have been using since i was a child without another exam. After filing out the questionnaire at my first visit, she seemed to be very judgemental of my answers.. All of my answers were fairly common. If you live close, then i guess, but dont go out of your way for this one until she gets more experience under her belt.

Felt rushed every time went in. Scheduled many, many tests for a variety of ailments supposedly linked to my "morbid obesity". Every test came back normal (fortunately). Every 3 months she would be convinced that I'm diabetic even though there's no family history. I had so many scheduled visits that my boss began counting it as sick time then eventually vacation time. I will say her staff is good and the Lahey Clinic has many, many great qualities. But enough was enough.

The most frustrating experience: any complaint results in a referral with no comment from the doctor. Everything is rushed, inattentive, insensitive and with an attitude. No follow up after the tests and x-rays come in. Refuses to extend prescription without an updated physical, which is a complete waste of time and money. Do not bother, look for someone who cares!

Worst doctor I have ever seen, my appointment consisted of nothing but her writing referrals, even though it was booked as a physical exam. Every question I asked resulted in another referral, I left with 7 or 8. She does not do gyn exams (pap smear, etc), have never had a primary care that sent me to a ob-gyn for routine exams. She refused to discuss previous test results from same facility, told me I needed to contact prior doctor staff. Prior doctor left which is the reason I switched to her as my primary care.

Friendly and knowledgeable, but she seems to be in over her head at times, which leads her to come across as rushed and curt. That has its benefits though, as I've never had to wait more than 15 mins to see her. She also seems to order more tests and refer more problems to specialists than I am used to. This may simply reflect thoroughness, but it comes across sometimes as though she lacks self-confidence.

In a hurry, curt, and rude. Definitely needs better people skills. She rushed in and out of the room several times w/ little to no explanation (to get forms, get the nurse, etc.), leaving the door open and and the patient at a loss for what to do. She seemed frustrated, distracted, and preoccupied.
