:( Click to report rating    10/19/09 2 4 1 I went to Dr. Brar for over a year not realizing that not every psychiatrist is like him. My sessions were LESS than 5 minutes and he cut me off almost every time I tried to tell him how I was feeling. I was taking myself off of the medication he was giving me because I didn't feel like myself. When I expressed this to him, hoping he would consider another medication, he told me that i "should keep taking the medicine" because i am "stuck with depression and therefore stuck taking it for the rest of my life". I would definately agree that his sessions are strictly prescription writing events. I do not believe that he cares nearly as much as he should about his patient's well being and is more concerned with what he sees as a quick fix and something to get the patients in and out of his office quicker. I will never go back to him and would never recommend him to anyone.

:( Click to report rating    5/2/09 1 3 1 Told me he doubted I would get better after I questioned a medication that wasn't working. Told me to listen to him and started yelling at me during a session. Openly discussed patients with the staff at the front desk, making crude comments about them and mocking them. The worst most unprofessional, degrading doctor I have ever witnessed in my life. Bragged to staff in front of crowded waiting room about his mansion in the Palisades. . .surprised he still has his license, Major HIPPA violations as well as verbal abuse to vulnerable patients.

:) Click to report rating    4/28/09 5 5 5 Dr. Brar is very professional- he cuts through the BS and gets to the point. Lots of doctors will be overly tender and try to coddle their patients and lose some of their ojectivity by becoming to intricately involved in their patients worlds. Remember most depressed or ADD/HD people are wonderful at masking and hiding what truly is the core issue-that's where Dr. Brar's expertise comes in- he is a true profession- he is objective and direct and he really knows his business. I was a very reluctant patient... didn't believe in meds or that I had a problem-figured I woudl just tell him everything was just because of timing-blah blah blah- when I was done talking, he asked me very precise and specific questions- and got right to his prescription. I had side effects at first he was honest with me about them saying that they came with taking the meds-but it was a choice of dealing with them or going off med- now I have no side effects and I am highly functioning- Thank Goodnessfor Dr.B

:( Click to report rating    4/17/09 1 5 1 STAFF IS HORRIBLE AND VERY ARGUMENTATIVE. THERE IS VERY LITTLE CONCERN FOR PATIENT WELL-BEING. YOU CAN GET NO DRUG REFILLS IF YOU DO NOT RETURN PROMPTLY EVERY 3 MONTHS. NO EXCEPTIONS. IF YOU ARE OUT OF TOWN, TOO BAD. MD AND STAFF SHOW NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER IN THEIR PATIENTS,THEY SEEM ONLY TO CARE ABOUT GETTING YOUR INSURANCE BILLED AND COLLECTING YOUR CO-PAY.

:( Click to report rating    9/20/08 1 4 1 Dr. Brar tried different medications with me & I had very significant side effects. When I complained to him about my side effects he said that it was all in my head and that all medications are the same. When I ran out of my medication, his receptionist told me that it was okay to be off of the medication for a few days even though I began having severe withdrawals and mood swings.

:( Click to report rating    3/16/08 3 5 1 When I first saw Dr. Brar, he diagnosed me and gave me medication to try. I was ok for the first month, but then the anger and sadness started coming back. I was also having occasional suicidal thoughts again. When I told this to Dr. Brar he told me that no doctor could help me with those thoughts. He said he already told me I needed to stop thinking like that and if I was going to continue having those thoughts then I was on my own because he couldn't help me. I quickly found a new doctor.

:( Click to report rating    1/8/07 4 1 I did not find my sessions with Dr. Brar helpful at all. In fact, he overlooked important symptoms and failed to recognize my classic case of depression. That error, along with the sense I had that he really didn't care about me, cost me critical time and contributed toward the build-up of an eventual full-blown, traumatic break-down. As with any psychiatrist/psychologist, the fit is very individual and very important. Go by the rule of 3: after 3 visits, if you don't feel like it's working with that person, and you feel it would be better with someone else, try someone else! I was not aware of my options at the time.
