:) Click to report rating    4/26/09 3 5 5 New to town and got an appointment promptly for an acute problem. Went back for a physical and found Dr. Hansen was attentive and thorough. Happy to have found her. Staff was helpful.

:) Click to report rating *  4/13/09 3 4 5 Dr. Hansen is great she reminds me of the old TV Dr. Marcus Welby. I have not complaints about Dr. Hansen is very attentive, I foudu her to be very knowledgeable, helpful and a good listerner. She makes you fell that she very much cares about her patients. When there was an issue with one of my test result I received a phone call from her office to let me know that I need addition testing and follow-up. I always received follo-up noted from Dr. hansen with my test results with any recommendations.I have very little dealings with her staff, however I have some interaction with the appointment scheduler Eric. I like him he has always been friendly, respectful and helpful to me.

:( Click to report rating    3/19/09 2 2 2 I agree with the person who posted about her office dropping the insurance plan and not notifying the patients. It's simple common courtesy to do that. The staff is incompetent and lazy. The doctor does not try to get to the root of the problem, but instead gives you a prescription BEFORE she even knows what's whong with you. Every time I raised some kind of a concern about a symptom (headache, allergies, etc.) she would give me a prescription for sometimes very potent stuff BEFORE doing any investigation/testing into what was really causing the symptom. Not a true doctor, just a pill pusher.

:| Click to report rating    12/10/08 3 1 2 When a doctor decides to stop participating with your insurance, she should notify you. In my case, she was my doctor for several years. One day I had a medical problem and called for an appt, only to be told she no longer took my insurance and wouldn't see me or refer me to someone else. When you have a medical issue, that is not the time to start searching for a new doctor! Providing some notice would have been the professional thing to do. When my eye doctor stopped taking my insurance, I received notification two months in advance telling me the date my plan would be dropped and how to get copies of my records. Also, I once waited over a half hour for my appt when there were no other patients there - turned out she was chatting with a drug rep. the whole time!

:) Click to report rating    7/2/08 1 2 4 Dr. Hansen is great if you can get past the morons that work in her office. I understand how difficult it is to find good staff. However, like most doctors her staff have the customer service skills of a deaf mute chained to the bottom of the ocean! I think it might be worthwhile to have them take a little etiquette training, learn a few manners, and at least pretend to be helpful. Dr. Hansen's a decent doctor if you can get past the idiots! Also, her phone service is horrible and the computerized voice options are a maze to hell!

:) Click to report rating    4/15/08 5 4 5 I HAVE BEEN AN EMPLOYEE WITH DR HANSEN FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. I HAVE READ THE REVIEWS ABOUT DR HANSEN AND WE THINK FOR THE MOST PART DR HANSEN HAS BEEN RATED GOOD BY MOST OF HER PATIENTS. YES OUR PRACTICE HAS HAD IT'S PROBLEMS, BUT WE RECOGNIZE WHAT THE PROBLEMS WERE AND HAVE BEGUN TO CORRECT THOSE PROBLEMS TO BEING WITH OUR FRONT OFFICE. WE ASK FOR OUR PATIENTS TO BE PATIENT WITH US AS WE MAKE CHANGES IN HE OFFICE. IF YOU DO HAVE A PROBLEM CONSULT THE OFFICE MANAGER. THANK YOU. :)

:) Click to report rating    2/12/08 1 2 4 I've gone to Dr. Hansen for 14 years and have no complaints about her skills as a physician. She's knowledgable, helpful and a good listener. You get the impression that she very much cares about her patients. However, her office staff is awful. I've had so many problems with her staff over the years that it's hard to count. For example, once I made an appointment when I was very sick and dragged myself over to her office, just to have her office staff say she wouldn't see me because she no longer took my insurance. When I called my plan to complain, they said she was still seeing existing patients and called her office to inform them of the problem. I now generally go to an urgent care center when I am sick and need an appointment on a short turn-around. As much as I hate to do it, I'll probably look for a new doctor to avoid the hassle.

:( Click to report rating    1/30/08 1 1 1 The doctor didn't show up, and we weren't notified. We took time off from our very busy schedules at work, and when we showed up her office was completely locked. No one answered the phones in her office, and no one called to notify us that there was a rescheduling. We waited almost one hour for someone to show up, but no one ever did. When I was finally able to get a hold of someone (a few days later), they explained that Dr. Hansen had an emergency and had to cancel. They said they must have "had the wrong number on file", because they tried to call. I told them this was completely false, since they had called us the day prior to the appointment to confirm. The least they could have done was leave a message to tell us (they never did). This is not any criticism of Dr. Hansen as a practitioner (we wouldn't know, since we didn't receive any care from her), but she definitely needs to hire better people in her office. Our time is just as valuable as hers.

:) Click to report rating    1/21/08 1 4 5 Same as everyone I can never get an appointment. I call and call but never speak to a person. I really like Dr Hansen but it is impossble to get through. At this point I think I am going to the ER as I am really in need of a doctor.

:) Click to report rating    1/3/08 1 3 5 I had Dr. Hansen in the 1990s and thought extremely highly of her. I had to leave her because her staff was the worst ever. Sorry to hear that she still has awful staff, because I was hoping to go back to her.

:| Click to report rating    12/23/07 1 3 2 Hansen disappointed me. I had found her attentive, helpful and knowledgeable with standard problems. Then it turned out that I have a rare condition. She did not investigate fully. Instead, she put me on a standard medication which would be fine if I were a retirement age female with the condition. However, I am many years away from retirement and a male. The standard medication that she put me on made matters worse. Dr Hansen's staff are unhelpful, conducted the wrong tests and sent me a letter destined for somebody else (my EKG was great--good news, but I never had an EKG!) and then refused to discuss a bill, despite multiple faxes and emails.

:| Click to report rating    8/23/07 1 2 2 While Dr. Hansen is one of the best Doctors I've yet had, her office staff are so ineffecient as to be potentially dangerous to the doctor's patients. I had a turn with an on-going condition and have been trying, for ELEVEN days now, to get an appointment. Have yet to even make voice contact. All I get is voicemail. It takes them DAYS to return a call. It takes so long to get an appointment when you are sick that you very well may either be cured, or dead, by the time the office can get you an appointment. I love Dr. Hansen, but I very well may have to change doctors due to the extremely long waits to get an appointment, even when you are sick! Is this any way to treat a sick person?!?!

:( Click to report rating    7/22/07 3 1 1 She interrupted taking my health history to take a personal telephone call in front of me. She was discussing a German essay with her daughter. Then she called her husband to ask his questions about German grammar. All of this was after she was appallingly late. I have never been to a more unprofessional doctor.

:) Click to report rating    7/9/07 2 2 4 Dr. Hansen herself is fantastic. Like everyone says, she actually listens to what you have to say and answers questions. I have never had this experience with a doctor before. Unfortunately, every other part of the interactions has been a mess though no one has been rude (test results not received - or only received 3 months later after calling twice, shown up for appts only to have Dr. Hansen on vacation that day, not told how to prep for a test so had to come back, etc.) I'm sticking with it for now becuase I really like Hansen as a doc, but am concerned about the management/office problems.

:) Click to report rating    6/21/07 4 5 I have been going to Dr.Hansen since I was 21 and I am now 51. Over these 30 years Dr. Hansen has been consistently thorough and knowedgeable. She is actually concerned about you as a total person; miind, body and soul.

:| Click to report rating    4/4/07 4 1 Dr. Hansen is fine as a physician, but the support staff is so bad that it is pointless joining this practise. After not having any of my phone calls returned, and with prescriptions neither phoned-in nor faxed on time, I am considering switching to another practise; if I knew earlier what I do now, I would not have joined.

:) Click to report rating    2/27/07 4 5 Dr. Hansen is wonderful. My first visit to her, we went into her office first to go over my history, etc. and THEN went into the exam room. Most doctors just get you undressed first and then talk to you while you're sitting there naked, feeling vulnerable in your gown. She is a very attentive listener and always so helpful, even when you can tell she's having a stressful day. In terms of what other people said about her staff - I think they are stressed out and while I can see that there might be a negative perception, I have never had a problem. If you treat them nicely, then they will do the same back to you. You also have to realize she has bare bones staff there and I think it's unusual for a doctor to be in a single, private practice. While it's a no frills waiting room, I could care less because the care I receive is phenomenal. And to think I found her by just picking a name in the provider directory!

:) Click to report rating    12/7/06 4 3 Dr. Hansen is extremely knowledgeable, especially about drugs and their interactions. Unfortunately, she rarely returns phone calls or messages (or, her staff doesn't give them to her.) Additionally, some members of her staff are very rude. Recently a nurse hung up on me abruptly in mid-sentence. It is a problem and I am thinking of switching doctors.

:) Click to report rating    9/29/06 5 5 this was my 1st time visiting a doctor in who knows how many years and i was very nervous. dr. hansen's receptionist sherita was extremely nice and helpful. dr. hansen herself spent a very long time with me going over my medical history and listened to a lot of my concerns about mental health issues. she was very knowledgeable about things and answered all my questions. i found her to be very comforting and friendly and i could tell she was really listening to me. she went above and beyond what i thought doctor's normally do by giving me referrals to a lot of wonderful doctors that i need to see. i could gush on and on about dr. hansen. there is not 1 thing i would change. i just know that i'm never going to stop seeing her as long as i live in the dc area!

:) Click to report rating    8/31/06 4 5 I just moved to DC and am so relieved to have found Dr. Hansen. I was so impressed by our intial visit. She was doing a favor for someone so she needed to change my appointment so took me at 7:30 AM before her staff came in. She took me in her office and we talked for about 40 minutes before she gave me a physical. She was very attentive and referred me for everything she was immediately concerned about. I feel like I now have an old fashioned family doctor and its great! The only unpleasant experience was in the adjacent lab where she sent me for blood work. No communication, staff that seems to hate their job and the worst blood draw I have ever had - I am still terribly black and blue two weeks later. As bad as it was, I liked Dr. Hansen so much I'm not letting that deter me. She is thorough, knowledgable and caring - what more can I ask?

:) Click to report rating    7/27/06 5 5 I have been seeing Dr. Hansen for over 10 years. She is very attentive and professional. Though I'm sure she has many demands on her time, whenever she is with me she is totally focused on my health concerns and needs. She listens and asks insightful questions. Her advice and treatment have almost always been just what I needed. When something wasn't quite successful, she figured out why not and offered alternate treatment. Dr. Hansen has refered me to a number of specialists when needed and all have been quite good as well.

:) Click to report rating    7/7/06 4 4 Very friendly and knowledgable. Unfortunately because of the way she categorized a visit my insurance didn't cover it and she sent the bill to me. Her office staff were incredibly rude, uncaring and just terrible to deal with. I'd rather go to a free clinic than deal with her staff again.

:) Click to report rating    6/28/06 4 4 She was great, but her office administrator was the most unpleasant person i have ever dealt with in an office setting. Though, she dropped my insurance abruptly and left me without a doctor to turn to.

:) Click to report rating    2/17/06 4 5 She is the very best I ever had in the DC area. Regretfully I had to drop her because her admin staff was atrocious, and she stopped accepting my insurance.

:) Click to report rating *  12/4/05 5 5 Really Listens! Is very willing to consider the patient's suggestions & input. Friendly, respectful, and Very knowledgable about the entire field of adult internal medicine. Plus, she knows & is not too egotistical to refer when a problem is not one she's the best for. Only downside is, I've had problems w/ many of the specialists she's referred me to...but I guess I've been spoiled by how good she is! :-) Absolutely finest doctor I've ever known.
