26/05/14 1 4 2 4 I had a horrible experience with the staff of this place, as it related to billing and accurately relaying information. Dr. Barry performed both a small surgery (carving out a piece of skin for a biopsy) and two liquid nitrogen treatments on an HPV wart. However, after the first treatment did not kill the wart, instead of trying alternative treatment, she wanted to try the liquid nitrogen again. I was fine with this, but specifically asked the staff if the amount of out-of-pocket cost would be the same for a follow-up treatment, and they said it would be cheaper ($115 vs. $200). However, upon payment they charged me the same full-price and did not accept responsibility for whoever on their staff quoted me at $115. This battle dragged on for months between myself, their billing agency and their office staff. I paid them $115 and refused to pay anymore, eventually they gave up but never admitted fault. I will never go back here and deal with them again because someone on their staff lied

17/09/13 1 2 5 5 Doctor Barry is an excellent doctor but why she stays with the practice I don't know. The office staff is rude. I have sent many patients to her but since I haven't seen her in maybe 5 yrs I'm considered a new patient and have to wait 3 months to see her. They try to push Dr. Nims on everybody I've talked to that this has happened to. Dr. Nims is not a likeable doctor. I wish Dr. Barry would wise up and leave that practice.  Respond

21/08/13 1 3 3 3 I called today, August 21, to make an appointment with Dr. Barry. I said I was a new patient. Was told to call back Firday after 2:00 and scheduling would be the week of Oct. 14. I will not call back. Why is it the person I spoke to make the appointment today for the week of Oct. 14. Poor customer service.  Respond

18/03/13 4 5 5 5 Dr. Barry is a very knowledgable doctor with excellant bedside manners. This was the second dermatologist I met for an adult acne problem. She patiently listened to my past pattern of breakout (even though my face was clear when I visited her), looked at pics from my previous breakouts and asked questions about my medical history. It was clear that she systematically tried to diagnose the root cause, talked about treatment options and provided valuable suggestions. She does not rush a consult and makes the patient feel confident of the diagnosis. I will highly recommend her!

11/01/13 5 5 5 5 Dr. Barry is a phenomenal doctor, extremely knowledgable! I had seen many doctors and dermotologists over the past ten years for symptoms that could not be explained with test after test leading to deadend diagnoses. At my first appointment with her, when other doctors had quickly written prescriptions for topical creams without even looking at my condition and seemed more interested in pushing their plastic surgery business, Dr. Barry carefully listened, tackled my medical problem systematically. and decided to take a skin biopsy --something no other doctor had suggested! In the end she quickly discovered I had an extremely rare form of lupus called Tumid Lupus which does not show up in bloodwork!! And although I only see her 2-3 times a year now, she remembers details about my case very well which makes me feel safe as one of her patients! She is a doctor you can trust! I would recommend her to anyone!!  Respond

07/09/11 5 5 5 5 Dr. Barry was the 4th dermatologist that I took my daughter to for acne and a rash that 3 other doctors could not cure. She not only diagnosed and cured the rash, but treated her acne effectively. She never rushes you and has an excellent bedside manner. After my whole family seeing Dr. Nims for a few years, we have all switched to Dr. Barry.

14/07/11 1 5 5 5 Had sutures removed one day and the wound opened up overnight. The answering service told me to go to the office at 7:45AM. I went and was turned away because Dr. Barry was not in. I was told to come back when Dr. Barry would be in. Dr. Nims was on site, but refused to see me. I ended up going to an urgent care place near my house that opened at 10:00am and the dr. there was astonished at the story I told him. Dr. Barry ended up calling me at 11:30am to follow up. She had been told nothing of what had happened. I will never return to that out-dated, shabby office. I had put up with rude staff for long enough to be able to see Dr. Barry. She does know her stuff, but after this experience, it is not worth it. This may be a shared practice, but Dr. Nims does not buy into that fact and if you are not her patient, she will not see you even if you have a gaping wound and you are bleeding!

11/07/11 2 3 3 3 Just called to make appt. First question was to find out what my insurance was. When the receiptionist wasn't sure they took my insurance, she said she wasn't sure she could schedule an appt. When I told her I had a high deductible and would pay the bill, the soonest I could see a doctor was 2 months from now. Not impressed at all with my first encounter.  Respond

01/02/11 5 5 5 5 I'm a gal w/tons of freckles. Have had basal cell cancers in the past and have to get checked every 6 months. Recently moved to NOVA and had to find a new derm. Found Dr. Barry in The Washingtonian as a "Top Doc". Getting an appt was a bit difficult -- they only schedule a month in advance and when that's full, the office staff has to wait for the doc to provide them with the following month's schedule. I called a few times and the schedule still wasn't out, but there was a cancellation so they got me in within a week. Dr. Barry looked me over and was concerned w/two spots. Set appt to come back in two weeks to remove them, and lab results showed melanoma on the one. Got me in the following wk to remove a bigger chunk -- waiting for the results now. Dr. Barry was amazing. Very thorough & professional w/a great sense of humor. Wonder if my previous derm would have found the melanoma!?! The office crew leaves a bit to be desired but I would take zombies in the office to see Dr. Barry!

11/03/10 5 4 5 5 My family has used 4 different dermatologists in Fairfax County and Dr. Barry is by far the best. She is knowledgeable, caring and has been able to "cure" a skin condition my daughter had for 2 years that no other doctor could. She has an excellent bedside manner and I have never felt rushed.

26/10/09 4 4 5 5 Dr. Barry is very professional and explains a lot about skin conditions, causes, treatments, and options. I was a new patient and was seen within 10 minutes of my actual appointment time, which I felt was great. My visit with the doctor did not seem rushed.  Respond

18/08/09 2 1 1 1 Tried to make an appointment for my son. After calling 3 times and waiting for approximately 5-10 minutes each time, I got through. The office staff said that Dr. Barry is not accepting new patients. I asked to get in with another doctor, she said there was nothing available until the end of September. I told her that my insurance company has her listed as accepting new patients, and they should let them know. She then said, on Fridays she accepts new patients. I will have to find a dermatologist that can see my son a lot sooner than 6 weeks.

29/05/08 5 4 5 5 Dr. Barry has been my dermatologist for many years. She literally saved my life in 2005 when she correctly identified a malignant melanoma mole on my back during a routine exam. The mole was very small, but an aggressive cancer and progressing. Had she not identified and extracted it when she did, I would not be here today. She is friendly, personable and caring. Her associate, Dr. Linda Nims is also excellent in her medical knowledge and practice, but Dr. Nims lacks any bedside manner, friendliness, or compassionate disposition. Dr. Barry is the best in her practice and the best in her business!   Respond
