:) Click to report rating    11/6/09 4 5 5 I have been to Dr. Cave for several years. I think he's fantastic. He's never encouraged me to have anything done that I didn't need to have done, he's recommended things to save me money. He expects patients to be on time and I LOVE that - I don't want to wait when I arrive and I think it's fair to expect that we be on time so as not to make everyone else late for the day. His office may be a little tight, but he's fairly new in his practice and it doesn't bother me. He's been informative, polite, friendly and always patient to answer my questions. I have recommended friends to him and they, too, have had good experiences with him.

:) Click to report rating    7/22/09 5 5 5 Thus far, Dr. Cave has been thoroughly professional with me. He has not recommended unnecessary procedures (can't say this about the other dentists I've visited). He is a stickler for time (AND THAT'S A BAD THING?) -- thank God -- because usually I go on my lunch hour and time is of the essence. I never feel rushed and yes, he does expect this staff to be professional (don't see anything wrong with that either). His staff is friendly and I always get a call the day before as a reminder. His office may be dated, but thus far, the services received from Dr. Cave and his staff have been first-rate.

:( Click to report rating    7/7/09 2 2 1 Dr. Cave is an awful dentist!!! He is extremely rude and condescending and refuses to take the time to listen to his patient's concerns. When I expressed my opinions about certain procedures that he suggested, he completely cut me off and refuted everything that I had to say. Please do not get any major dental work done by him, he rushes through everything and his work is dreadfully sloppy!! He constantly yelled and screamed at his dental assistants throughout my visit. His office is an ancient, dirty, run down joke. There are boxes and boxes of mess crammed into every corner of that messy office. The wall paper and paint is peeling throughout the office. I can go on and on about how horrible Dr. Cave is. I honestly would not recommend him to my worst enemy!! I suggest you stay far away from this dentist!! Worst dentist ever, better off going to a clinic!!

:( Click to report rating    6/24/09 3 3 1 I was incredibly disappointed by my visit to Dr. Cave. He was abrasive, condescending (I find it incredibly rude to be called “Kiddo” as a young, professional woman), and made me feel as though his time was more important than the quality of care. When I went in for my last appointment, I thought I was there for a cleaning, but without saying ANYTHING beforehand, Dr. Cave started numbing my mouth to drill two soft spots! I didn't even know he was planning to fill them-- nor would I have agreed to it-- much less the same day without so much as notifying me first (apparently this is a common tactic used by fraudulent dentists to boost insurance payments). Furthermore, 2 weeks later my jaw is still sore from being pried open and I have searing pain in one of the fillings whenever I chew. Needless to say, I will NOT be going to see Dr. Cave again-- his lack of professionalism was appalling and I can only hope my dental health won't be permanently impaired as a result of his negligence.

:( Click to report rating    1/21/09 1 2 1 Ugh, terrible. I will never return to this dentist. He was rude, cocky, and intimidating. The office is old and dirty looking, and the equipment is absolutely ancient. In fact, the x-ray equipment was so old that it actually hurt when they took x-rays with their bulky, old-fashioned equiment. Stay away!!

:( Click to report rating    12/30/08 1 5 1 Completely DISLIKED HIM! He was arrogant & rude. I couldn't TELL he was the dentist b/c of the way he was dressed. He seemed more concerned with being stylish than looking professional. I made an appointment for a general check up but when I got in the office he told me that it was a "problem specific appointment". During this half done exam he knocked on my teeth with his tool & told me to tell him if it hurt. When I said 2 of my teeth in particular did hurt when he did that,he rudely told me that I was anticipating it & basically making it up! When I tried to explain what I was feeling,he told me not to explain it & just say yes or no, then he got very irritated! Why in the world would I make it up when my insurance doesnt even cover half of whatever I would need done! If anything, I would be saying it didnt hurt when it did! I told him I didnt like the way the appt.was going & his response was"I couldn't agree more". I walked out before he could finish and I WILL NOT BE RETURNING!

:) Click to report rating    3/25/08 4 5 5 Dr. Cave is the best dentist I have ever been to. He accepted the dental insurance I had that was very limited and in addition gave me a senior discount of 20% and a standard discount of 10% for work not covered by insurance. Although I was 62 I was still working. I had to have an upper denture as well as two root canals and gold crowns. The costs were extremely reasonable. Dr. Cave is young and is building his practice but he has a very flexible scale of charges, extremely unusual today. He is a perfectionist and somewhat intense but very pleasant and friendly. He is an expert fitter and usually accomplishes fittings in one visit. Other dentists I have seen spent hours and sometimes return visits to perfect a fitting. He runs a tight ship which means he doesn't tolerate people who are late for their appointments. I am now 70 and live in a senior residence in Silver Spring and cannot make the journey into DC to see him. At the time I originally saw him I was working in DC.

:) Click to report rating    1/7/08 5 5 5 Dr. Dan Cave is absolutely the best dentist I have ever been to. I have been to him for extensive work and he has always been very caring and gentle. He is extremely knowledgable and open to any questions that you may have. As said in some other reviews, he is adament about punctuality, which is why I have never waited for more than five minutes. Staff are pleasant and seem to be very organized. I would recommend Dr. Cave to any and everybody. He is such a caring and compassionate dentist.

:) Click to report rating    11/8/07 4 5 4 As a young female, I felt he was very demeaning. Reviewers have said he's handsome but I frankly don't care what my dentist looks like I want him to be professional--and wearing short-sleeved polos and making condescending comments does not count as professional in my book. He accosted me for being late to my appointment--when I usually arrive early but there was a rain storm. He's competent enough, but he feels very green in some ways compared to my former dentists. His staff are super nice. His prices are the typical high DC prices. I was also worried he was a cavity queen when he told me I had five cavities, when I had only ever had one before, but then told me two of them "might go away." I'm switching to another dentist.

:) Click to report rating    10/2/07 5 5 5 Dr. Cave is extremely handsome, but very professional. I have never been to a dentist that makes me feel so comfortable that I am not scared to come back. I must commend his staff as well, very nice and very patient.

:) Click to report rating    5/18/07 5 4 I LOVE Dr. Cave. I generally hate all dentists, but he is great. I am surprised to read some of the comments on here because I have found that preventive care is important to him and he has caught things that other dentists have not. He knows his stuff and explains the science of what he is doing so you understand treatment/care. He isn't necessarily as willing to work out costs as other dentists might be, but that is because he is good and this is a business and he doesn't need to compromise his treatment to retain clients, as other dentists who are not as good at their craft need to do. I have reccomended him to many who feel the same way. He does lecture about flossing and gum care etc., but who doesn't need a little "mothering" now and again?

:| Click to report rating    2/23/07 5 3 I also felt that the appts. I've had have been rushed, and I wasn't always sure I was getting a thorough cleaning. I agree about the abrasiveness. He's polite but stern, and I've had him get short with me as well.

:) Click to report rating    1/19/07 5 4 Abrasive personally, but really knows what he is doing. He is very handsome, but possible cocky b/c of it.

:( Click to report rating    12/11/06 4 2 Fast, yet too fast....Missed several cavities which grew so large I and quickly that I had to get 17 fillings when I found a new dentist. My new dentist was also surprised to see he had filed down teeth which should not have been filed. He also failed to diagnose by TMJ problem. If you want good looks, open a magazine -- choose a different dentist.

:) Click to report rating    10/23/06 5 5 I have never had to wait for my appointment; he is extremely polite and remembers "personal" details from previous visits i.e. occupation; hobbies; vacations. He cares about your teeth and is constantly telling me the importance of flossing. has been flexible with payment and insurance options. He is also HOT and GBLT friendly.

:) Click to report rating    10/17/06 5 4 He places strong emphasis on punctuality and is one of the only doctors in the DC area that bills AFTER insurance. I've never had a problem, though I have recommended people who got chewed out when they were late (especially first appointment of the day).

:( Click to report rating    10/12/06 3 2 Professionally fine, but the main reason to see this dentist is his dashing good looks.

:( Click to report rating    12/1/05 5 1 He recommended several expensive treatments other professionals have questioned. He refused to accept my insurance as payment saying doing so was a favor, even though he looked it up prior to treatment. He finally accepted it once I said I was going to inform HR about his practices. I've had to have additional repair work done and subsequently had two root canals.
