17/12/12 1 3 5 5 I agree with some of the written statements that his receptionist is not only rude and unprofessional but dictatorial. Dr. A. was very pleasant and gracious but he did not explain the endoscopic procedure and no follow-up was scheduled. The nurses did not give me instructions on what I needed to do with diet , medications etc. following the procedure and the outcome. Very disappointing given I am an RN and would have expected that.  Respond

20/02/12 2 1 1 3 I had my 1st experience with Dr. Abunassar last week and it was the worst experience I have ever had. Based on previous comments, it could have been a base day or his secretary is rubbing off on him. I waited a total of 4 months to get in to see him only to have him ignore the information he already received from my GP and try to send me for test I already had. When I pointed this out to him then his focus was getting me booked IMMEDIATELY for an upper endoscopy which would cost me $60 through a private clinc. Everyone in his office that morning was being booked for a test through this clinic and the focus was on how they had to pay for this test 1st. I left there feeling like this was a dirty and sleezy organization and I do not feel that our Health Care should be lowered to that standard.  See Responses

21/12/11 1 5 2 3 The receptionist was not polite. The doctor talked about patient's situation with the receptionist in front of others who were siting in the waiting room.  See Responses

20/12/11 3 5 5 5 Doctor is great. He is thorough and spends time to listen to your concerns. Although I have not had the procedure as yet, I feel confident going for the procedure. The receptionist could have been more professional and less defensive.  Respond

24/07/11 1 3 5 5 Although Dr. Abunassar is very knowledgeable I wonder if he knows how poorly his receptionist reflects on him. His previous secretary/assistant was great and is greatly missed. I wonder if he could get her back  See Responses

19/07/11 3 5 5 5 I have been treated by Dr. Abunassar for almost thirty years. He has been nothing short of great. My condition did not reverse yet it did not get any worse. I continue to pu my faith in him. he is a gentleman and extremely knowledgeable and professional. i cannot speak of his staff sinceI hav not had any opportunity to visit the doctor since the change in front line staff. The previous lady was very charming however.  Respond

25/03/11 1 4 5 5 My first impressions started with the uncooperative secretary that doesn't seem to return phone calls, and when she does, she is not helpful. As each patient came in she was demeaning, blaming her shortcomings on everyone else, very unprofessional, and seemed to be overbearing in her tone with the Doctor. The secretary spoke loud enough for everyone to hear the other patient’s information; she did not use any discretion. This was my first visit with Dr. Abunassar, he seems very nice, and he certainly has a good rapport with his patients. I have not had the colonoscopy done yet, but will stay because he seems to be an extremely knowledgeable Doctor who is very kind, and seems concerned about his patients. I was very disappointed with his secretary.  See Responses

07/03/11 1 2 5 5 there was no receptionist there at all which I found absurd. The doctor was very knowledgable & comforting & made me reassured for the future tests.  See Responses

22/09/10 1 4 5 5 Dr. Abunassar has performed a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy on me. Based on my experience, I consider him to be not only an excellent practioner, but also a fine gentleman with a very pleasant demeanor. Unfortunately, his helpful receptionist of many years retired and her recent replacement is much less helpful. I atttribute this not to a "learning curve" issue but to her authoritative personality that reflects napoleonic behaviour. I hope Dr. Abunassar is made aware of this as he is likely too busy to notice it.  See Responses

04/08/10 5 5 5 5 Met with Dr Abunassar for a consultation. He's very straightforward, listens to everything you say, and has a very reassuring demeanor. I left feeling a lot better about my situation - he's a genuine professional.  Respond

02/07/10 3 4 5 4 NO BEDSIDE MANNER!!! I went in for a Colonoscopy, while being under the 'influence' of the pain-killer medication I was asked to consent to a Endoscopy. He was very rude, did not tell me what to expect when putting the camera down my throat. When I pulled it out, instead of explaining what to expect, how to make it easier, he had the nurse hold my hands down so I wouldn't pull it out. He is very knowledgable, however - I did not want to go back to get my results from him.  Respond

27/07/09 5 4 5 5 Had a colonoscopy and endoscopy performed this past winter. A follow-up to explain the results would have been appreciated. Yes, there was nothing seriously wrong, but I was sent away with a sheet of paper and no explanation of my options for treatment or exactly what was wrong. Other than that he seemed kind and knowledgeable. Had to wait about 3 hours longer than necessary because he had not arrived yet. Also, the nurses that initially prepped me were very rude and belittling. Not professional. But once I was in the room for the procedure the nurse and doctor were very professional.  Respond

04/06/09 5 5 5 5 I hate having a colonoscopy performed on me, but Dr. Abunassar and the staff at the Riverside make it as comfortable as possible. The preparation for the colonoscopy is unpleasant and the preparation for the day of the exam creates much anxiety and worry, but when you're in the recovery room with an egg sandwich in your hand, everything seems to be okay. My only request would be that they have McDonald's waiting at the end of the exam.  Respond

12/04/09 5 5 5 5 Last Wednesday was my third colonoscopy with Dr. Ramzi Abunassar, a compassionate and attentive listener, who did a commendable job prior, during and after surgery. His flawless performance with the wonderful team at Riverside Hospital accounts for my immediate recovery and return to work overnight. I am also very grateful to Dr. Abunassar for his sound disease-prevention advice and nutrition recommendations that account, at least partly, for my improved health and the fact that no polypes were found this year. My next exam will be in five years!  Respond

11/01/09 5 5 5 5 Dr Abunassar is a very nice gentleman. He is most courteous and polite. I have been going for a colonoscopy every 5 years for the last 15 years. His staff and himself have made this scary procedure more tolerable by their caring ways. Signed: Leona D.  Respond

16/02/08 5 4 5 5 Years ago I had seemingly endless diarhoea, so finally was admitted to hospital. Dr. Abunassar is a lovely man, very concerned and professional, and it ultimately turned out to be a rare stomach virus that I'd picked up in a cafeteria. By that time, I'd been checked for cancer, chron's disease, lupus, and everthing else under the sun. He felt that putting my stomach 'at rest' was the best option, and three days later I had the first breakfast I'd had in at least three weeks.  Respond

16/01/08 5 5 5 5 I needed a gastroscopy for diabetic gastroporesis. Dr. Abunassar was quite professional and efficient in his meeting and the procedure. A sedative was offered but the staff had no objection to trying without. They gave many tips on success without sedation, which ultimately worked. Dr. Abunassar was quite detailed in his analysis and treatements and outcome was quite good. All in all a highly recommended doctor, staff and clinic. I'd like to especially thank Dr. Abunassar for taking time out of his evening to give a talk to a diabetes self help group about issues of diabetic gastroporesis. If more doctors were like Dr. Abunassar, health care in Ontario would be substantially better.  Respond
