10/08/13 4 1 5 5 You may have to wait to see her, but realize she is saving children's vision and seeing the most incredibly challenging cases. She is the reason my son can see today (former preemie). Wonderful, passionate lady who LOVES her clients. Yes she rushes, and yes she is fast, but that is because she knows what she is doing, and sees TONS of patients in 1 day. She also travels between the NICU and children's hospital to save these preemie babies eyesite (usually they don't have time to wait for their surgery).  Respond

19/06/13 2 1 3 3 The wait time to see Dr Ells is ridiculous. They are way overbooked with a wait time of approx 2 hrs almost every time you go there. It's becoming more and more difficult to keep my son entertained every time I go there as he gets older, especially since he doesn't walk so he can't play at all with the toys there. I find Dr. Ells to always be in a rush. She started out just checking my son's retinas to ensure they were growing properly since he was a preemie and she wouldn't say anything at all, then say, come back in a week or whatever. If I ever wanted to know if they were good, or any other thing about my son's eyes that she was checking I had to ask her. I don't find her friendly as others have said and always feel like she can't wait to move on to the next person so she can leave.  Respond

17/08/11 4 4 5 5 Me and my family had a referral to Dr. Ells back when I was 10 years old. She helped correct my eye problem and performed surgery on it a few months later and had good follow up the three years afterwards. We had a great experience with her and highly recommend her for work and effort. A very good doctor!  Respond

29/07/11 5 4 5 5 I have a sever case of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, which Dr. Ells diagnosed when I was 6 days post-partum. She has looked ater me for the last 14 months, and I think she is the best doctor I have ever had. Sure, she's sometimes late, and her clinic gets very backed up at times, but it's a small price to pay. She is friendly, very knowledgeable, and empathetic. She has taken the time to answer all my questions and has offered me cutting-edge treatments for my disease. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a better ophthamologist out there. She has always made me feel like I am her number one priority, as I am sure she does with all her other patients as well.  Respond

07/05/10 4 2 5 5 We first met Dr. Ells when my son was one day old. His eye had been severely damaged by the forceps during birth (that is a whole other blog). We were sent directly from Foothills to ACH immediately upon discharge...can you imagine the fear a parent has leaving the hospital with a new born? Dr. Ells was AMAZING!!! She took such great care with our son and with both of us. She explained every detail about his condition to us and even walked us through what the 5 year plan would be for his care. He was 1 day old! It was a very sad day, 5 years later, when she told us that she was not going to be treating his case anymore, because he was doing so well, and she was only taking specialty cases. She referred us to her colleague, Dr. Romaniuk, who is also very good. Thank god for Dr. Ells, couldn't have been any kinder or sweeter, just a gem...an angel on Earth.  Respond

19/02/10 3 2 2 2 Dr. Ells performed adult strabismus sugery on my left eye in 2005 - my 4th surgery since the age of 3. I was led to believe that the surgery would "cure" my strabismus. She was very impatient when I asked questions about the surgery and whether or not it was the best option for me. I was led to believe that it was my only option. My quality of vision has significantly deteriorated since my surgery and my eye is now turned out at an even greater angle. I suffered severe double vision for over a year after my surgery and after waiting a ridiculous amount of time to see her for follow up visits I was basically told that my eye muscles were thrashed and that I would just have to live with the results of the surgery. She then went on sabaticcal and I was not provided with the opportunity to see another Dr. regarding my concerns. I wouldn't recommend her. If you don't get answers and get pressured to jump into surgery make sure you explore other options (and other surgeons) if you can.  Respond

14/09/09 5 4 2 4 We brought our daughter in to see herbecause we had some concerns regarding her vision. It has been a month and I am still confused about the diagnosis. She had someone else see us first who told us our daughter was completley blind and then when she came in she was only with us about 10 minutes said some big words I didnt understand and then sent us on our way. I dont know how they could tell a parent her daughter is blind and send them home to come back in 2 months without any information. Its a good thing i am resorceful enough to do research on my own. Dr Ells told us she had albinism, not very many people know what that is so I think she is knowledgable but maybe too rushed. Staff was so nice though and they did let me know of the crazy wait time ahead so we were prepared.  Respond

02/03/09 4 4 5 5 She has been absolutely wonderful to us. Very knowledgeable. As soon as she saw the issue she was able to diagnose it immediately, unlike the other specialists that we saw. We have been going to her regularly and she is both professional and knowledgable. Yes the wait time in this office is long but you are made aware of that when you get there, in my opinion the wait is well worth it. She is wonderful.  Respond

21/02/09 5 3 5 5 The wait time is unbelievable , however, worth the wait!!! She was the most down to earth doctor. By the time she saw us, all her staff except one had been sent home for the day, and she stayed with her assistant and did an emergency laser treatment for us, when we had only been booked for a consultation, well after the office had closed. She could have re-booked the treatment and sent us back home 2 hours away, but, instead she chose to take care of business right there and then. We are very greatful!!!  Respond

16/12/08 5 5 5 5 We were sent directly from ACH to see Dr Ells. She waited for us. Gave out her private information for us to contact her if we experienced any problems during the night. My daughter suddenly lost her entire eyesight in her eye, Dr Ells was wonderful on a -40 evening and roads that were crazy. I am sure everyone noticed how buy the office was, 2-3 hours is nothing if you don't have to go back for repeated tests over and over again. Plus there is a Tim's right there.  Respond

11/01/08 1 1 4 5 Dr. Ells is very friendly, knowledgeable and personable, however, the wait time of 2 -3 hours to see her or any other doctor in the office is unacceptable. If I had known how long it would take when the appointment was made 4 months earlier, I would not have driven so far to see her. Nothing against Dr. Ells, however, with my last ophthalmologist, who recently retired, I never had to wait more than 45 minutes, ever.  Respond
