The next time I seek any medical advice, I best wait outside the clinic to consult one of the homeless folks at the bus stop. I'm certain that their advice would be much more helpful, and regardless of their disposition, still be a more enriching human interaction. Dr. Dunstan-Adams' creates an environment for her patients that is more abrasive than the ailment that brings them there in the first place. Unless of course she is attempting to change the perspective of one's illness by contrast. Although I'm certain someone as supposedly educated as herself would be able to do so without coming off as a complete tool. Please refill her prescription of Klonopin before she renders herself entirely incompatible with the rest of humanity and adopts two dozens cats. Thank you!

She is by far the worse doctor I have ever seen. she has no people skills and is so abrupt and rude. The first time I saw her for an ear infection she pushed the instrument really hard and when I said that hurt she told me it was my fault because I wasn't staying well. then the next time I had some pains in my stomach she sent me home saying it was a bladder infection and gave me nothing or any idea what to do, next thinng I know about 3 hours later I was in emergency and a doctor telling I need emergency surgery. I remember her coming to the hospital the next day and being mad that I had three small scares as oppose to one big one reather then remotely showing any signs of I am concern about your well being. she seem to think she know it all, she defnitely have an inferiority complex. I would rather pay to go to vancouver, Tornto anywher but see her. She act like she is God's gift to her patient. she really need someone to take her on, boy I hope she has no kids she is so cold.

there is just no way this woman should be a doctor. she'd belittle what my daughters had to say, confused them with her "very medical" questions. and, more than once, reduced me to tears for asking questions, for trying to research things on my own. the last time we saw her i left in tears and vowed never to go back. we have a WONDERFUL new doctor now. finding him wasn't easy but it was time well spent!

I saw Adams on one occasion and it is certain i will never return to see her as a doctor. She was rude, uncaring, and offensive to my concerns. Accusing me of a drug addiction for something that turned out to be as simple as winter dry air causing nose bleeds. She made me feel about an inch tall, and left me in tears leaving the office. A recent medical concern left me seeking a doctor that was not my usual family doctor, and when told over the phone i could get an immediate appointment with Dr Dunstan Adams, my reply was "oh god, i rather die" It was very apparent she is just as nasty and unkind to her staff as she is to her patients, and i was thanked for voicing my hatred in seeing this doctor. If your in need of a doctor, she always has appointments open because very few are unwilling to see her any more.

I had a "severe" abdominal mystery pain and she not only saw me the same day, but had results on my blood tests by the end of the day, called in my prescription to my pharmacy so I could pick up after work, arranged for an Ultrasound first thing the next morning, crammed me into her busy day on her lunch so she could go over the results and had me seeing a specialist in his office at 1pm and a CT scan 9pm that very night! She called surgeons while in surgery and moved mountains to make sure I was not about to "slip" through the cracks. Yes, she is ASSERTIVE! This is how she gets things done! She cares, but she's not a huggy, kissy type and I'm glad she's on my side! I've been seeing her for 10 years now.

Like others, new to Nanaimo, I saw her because she was taking new patients. After having a wonderful doctor on the Mainland for many years, I was shocked at her superior rude attitude. However, I continue as I need regular meds for a health problem. I do hope to find a doctor who actually cares about patients one day in Nanaimo. My opinion is that she just does not like her job and does not like even touching people -- not a good trait for a doctor. I expect technical medicine investigation with no human contact would suit her. It's amazing to have a third 'yearly pap and medical' in a row without once being asked any questions whatsoever. On the light side, my most recent yearly exam took only 6 minutes. (I am a fast dresser and, indeedy, she is prompt!) She is good at referrals as long as she suggests it -- one must word concerns very carefully -- terrible to use manipulation when a simple question should suffice.

ok, this is the thing about dr.dunstan adams....she is very outspoken, and at times can judge. I had her for my prenatal care with my 1st child, she was great. She was nice to me, and provided me with all the knowledge I needed. When I was in the hospital with kidney stones, she did show compassion. I have read so many negative comments about her, and to all the people that don't like her, maybe they should see another doctor.

I had the misortune of having to visit Dunstan-Adams one year ago. She was cold, cruel, sarcastic, verbally abusive and insulting, and reduced me to tears (as I now know is obviously a common occurance with her from reading these reviews.) I went home and cried afterward, and felt horrible about myself as a result. I later became very angry, and I vowed to never stop letting people know what a terrible person AND physician this woman is.

Oh geez. What a terrible doctor. Talk about a friggin God complex. She wouldnt listen to a single thing I said. So rude, and inconsiderate. I had a simple thing wrong, and I wanted some tests wrong and she basically just said to me "Well, maybe you have cancer too. Or should I just write that down so you can continue your pity party." Needless to say, I left in tears. Horrid, absolutely horrid.

This doctor was a substitute for my own family doctor. Attitude was less than inviting. Wouldn't take the time or effort to explain anything, or listen. I was in exteme pain, and relayed this to her, when I was taking too long to get dressed due to severe pain she grabbed my shirt and arm and tried to help (hurry me up it seemed)I screamed and swore in her face and began crying, her only reaction was, "we have to get that pain in control". Will never go to her again.

I tried to give this doctor a chance - but after a fourth visit she had not "warmed up". In fact she was quite rude and abrupt with me. There is just no need for that. Regardless of her personality, I feel that she does not listen to my questions or concerns. I'm struggling here to be polite and constructive with my comment - I am actively looking for another doctor (nothing so far, very frustrating).

I went into a visit with her to she if she would be my family doctor after moving here. She may be accepting new patients, but if you are under 30 and a male you are consider "to much paper work". She then continued to explain to me how males under 30 generally go to the emergency room at the hospital. The hospital then sends her the paper work and she doesn’t get paid for looking at that stuff only when I book a visit with her. I did end up visiting her a couple of times after that cause, well I was young and believed her. She was always rude and grumpy.

I was a patient of Dunsten-Adams for several years. More often than not, I would leave her office in tears, hoping never to return. Though I have a serious chronic illness, she seemed (by her tone and remarks, at least) not to care about my complaints. When I expressed concern about missing work while recovering from surgery, she said "I'm sure you're easily replaceable" (or something to that effect). (For the record, I am a highly-educated specialist in my field--my absence posed a major challenge for my colleagues.) Although I give her credit for sending me to the right specialists when necessary, I have to agree with the numerous comments here regarding her general attitude and bed-side manner. After avoiding going to the doctor for months because I dreaded another visit with her, I have finally found someone new. Notably, Dunstan-Adams is one of the few doctors at the clinic who is currently accepting new patients--perhaps others have left for the same reasons as I did.

She diagnosed me with "caustic urine" but offered no solutions, no explanations, no treatments, no kindness, no information. I made a hilarious joke about my so-called "caustic urine" being like paint thinner, and she seemed to only become less professional and helpful and more rude and impatient. I would rather have "caustic urine" than ever see her again. Turns out it was a simple bladder infection that only needed antibiotics for a few days, so I feel as if she only prolonged my pain and suffering.

She is very judgemental and argumentative. Made me feel like I had to explain my reasoning behind everything. She made me feel like I didn't know anything. I've had previous visits that were ok but this was the worst. I had to practically get on my hands and knees to beg her to give me a referel to see an eye specialist. She is very frustrating. I usually only see her once a year, but after my last visit I"m going to see someone else.

I don't go to see this doctor for her personality, I go to see her for her thorough treatments and follow through. For my pregnancies she went above and beyond researching care and treatment for a rare complication I had, and gave the best care. Good with my children also. While she does tend to downplay what your saying at times, staying strong with your concerns has always gotten me referrals and the care I need. I will continue to have her look after my needs and those of my children as she has never let me down in the past 10 years.

I am with every other comment about this so-called doctor. She is incredibly condescending and disrespectful. Dunstan-Adams should be reported to the college of physicians and her right to practice suspended. I feel sorry for those other individuals who are suffering because of her!

I saw this Dr for the first year we lived in Nanaimo and thankfully found another Dr. Right now she is one of the few taking new patients and I can understand why. I can't see anyone staying with her. When I saw her she was rude, impatient and acted like I was taking up her valuable time. Even after I was in a car accident and was told by ICBC to get a checkup she was rude and acted like it was a waste of her time. How she keeps her license is beyond me.

WEll my wife passed away 3 days ago from cancer. Thank you very much, lady! Doctors are defending Dunstan-Adams, stating that she did nothing wrong because there is no way that she could have possibly known to run the type of tests which would have detected this in its early stage. Well my wife DID know and Dunstan-Adams rudely ignored her requests to have those tests run, passing off as drama, stating that "there is such a thing as over-investigating something, you know". Dunstan-Adams failed in her responsibility to listen to her patient, a patient whom had to clearly be expected to become more knowledgeable than the so-called doctor herself. She did this for no justifiable reason, all costs were covered, than simply pure laziness and a biased dislike of her patient on a personal level. This negligence led to the death of my wife and, in my opinion, constitutes a criminal act.

If I go to the walkin clinic again and she is on duty I will leave, I would rather suffer. She has superiority complex, belittling me in her talking to me, never experienced a physician like her before I think its a sign she needs to change careers and not be involved with people as she has absolutely no people skills she was -10 on helpful. I went there because of depression and she made me feel worse.

I saw her once. For about 5 minutes, she was so rude she caught herself and made an attempt at chitchat. She insulted my reading choice (a car magazine, I female so I suppose Chatelaine would have been more appropriate). I am relieved at the comments here, at least I know what I got was typical. She's rude, abrupt, condescending and sarcastic. All in under 5 minutes. She set a record for the worst yet, but she did no damage to my psych because she was SO awful that I was able to process the experience appropriately.

I had requested a female doctor for a yearly physical and she was it. Absolutely rude!! This doctor told me to go on a diet and that I was obese(15lbs over required weight and very healthy) I had just had a baby 11mths before. What a way to put someone into a post partum depression....She then said "I'm done you can get dressed", while she sat in the room and wrote the report. She couldn't get me out fast enough.

I have never visited this website before, but after taking my daughter to see Dr. Dunstan-Adams, I feel the over-whelming need to shout out to the world how abrupt, rude and condescending she is. Within seconds of entering her office, she made me want to leave. She kept cutting me off and trying to correct the information that I had to share with her about my daughter. She wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say...and challenged what I did say. She rushed us in and out, and had no time for any discussion of my daughter's health. I will NEVER go to see her or bring a child of mine to see her again... This is the first time I have felt disrespected by a doctor. If being punctual elevates her rating, it is at the cost of helpfulness, bedside manner, and the meaningful sharing of knowledge.

A few years ago I had to see her when my regular physcian was not available and my 2 experiences with Dunsten-Adams were unjustably awful. She is very shaming & like the many other comments, belittling & condescending. My friend who works at the clinic says many staff & patients have left her office crying & EVERY ONE is aware of her bad reputation, yet nothing happens. When I call there for an appt. & my dr. can't see me and they offer me her, I say, "no thanks I'd rather set my hair on fire" and they giggle. After reading these comments I have decided to do my part and report her. She has the bed side of a cold shark. She could look at my daughter & be sweet but then looked at me with cold mean eyes..and i am a very good fit balanced mother.
