This is a long review, but I advise you to read all of it if you've been struggling with allergies for years and just feel devastated, frustrated and want to give up. I just had a visit with Dr. Hadjiev yesterday. I was skeptical about his ability to help me because I have been to 7-8 allergists in NJ and they all essentially "gave up on me" after some of my allergy treatment regimens failed after a number of months or a year. They said stuff like "Oh, take a Zyrtex or this nasal spray" They just wanted to give you meds and be left alone and if you had problems with the meds, you were out of luck. One allergist even called my ENT doctor during my session, while I could barely breathe, and essentially tried to say it was my ENT's problem to address!! Very unprofessional and it wasn't true at all. I was essentially interacting with "allergists" who said the same stuff like "Oh, I've given you all of your options, that's all I can do". I finally had enough after I began to start wheezing and my ENT and internist started to have to give me predisone and antibiotics to help me breathe since the other "allergists" didn't help me.
I looked up Dr. Hadjiev online and saw that his patients were giving him excellent reviews. They wrote things that really impressed me like "he hasn't given up on me", "I had been to so many doctors for help and misdiagnosed me and he's the one who really helped me and diagnosed me correctly", but I was still a little skeptical when I saw that his nickname was "Dr. Sneeze". So, I took a train along with my father for support and went to his NYC office. I had a hunch that maybe my 45 minute train ride would be worth it. I waited about 10 minutes to meet with his nurse who was incredibly professional and asked detailed questions and took copious notes. She also administered appropriate tests. She was also very knowledgeable.
I had to wait a while to while to see Dr. Hadjiev but I didn't complain at all. He looked at the paperwork/records I brought for him and explained how the skin test and blood test results are supposed to be interpreted. It's not just "this test says you've gotten better" and "this test explains how allergic you are". There's a lot more to the tests than one realizes. He believed that I had real allergies and I explained that my biggest problem was congestion which impacted my ability to breathe and even talk at times. We spoke for a while about how to treat this. He was very personable and explained everything about congestion to me and more about what allergies really are and how they should be treated, not just what you've heard from other doctors and/or read on the internet. I learned a lot during the session. He knew a lot about general medicine too which was impressive and just knew how to listen and communicate with me in the way that a doctor should ideally communicate with a patient. He went above and beyond what most "allergists" do for their patients.
He honestly spent about 2 and a 1/2 hours with me and came up with a game plan that made sense and would hopefully produce the least amount of side effects and possibly work in the end. He explained everything I had to do and answered all of my questions.
I left the appointment feeling that he's really going to try and help me and he's going to do his best to help me feel better. He's the only allergist I've seen in the last two years who has given me real, actual hope. He didn't push lots of medications on me and didn't just say "oh well, not much I can do". He was sincere, genuine and wanted to help. His staff is also very good about communicating with you if you need questions answered and he and his staff will respond to phone calls within an hour or two, you won't be waiting 24 hours or more. Honestly, I am surprisingly amazed and grateful that Dr. Hadjiev did all that he did during our initial session. He's the type of doctor that actually follows the Hipprocratic Oath of serving the needs of the patients first and I'm being completely sincere and honest. If you need an allergist, go to Dr. Hadjiev and if you live outside of NYC, take a train, bus or drive and see him. So far I think he is a phenomenal physician, a real bonafide allergist. He will give you a full, extensive examination, honest advice and I really believe that will do all that he can to try to help you. He will give you hope. He will think "outside the box". He won't give up on you and he seems to really care about all of his patients and that's why he's getting a huge number of 5 star reviews. They are real reviews by real patients. If you have really bad allergies , get to Dr. Hadjiev as soon as possible. Don't waste your time with local "allergists". I may live in NJ but he will be my allergist.
