27/01/13 5 5 5 5 I've been with Dr. Ma for over 13 years now! He is not only knowledgeable and professional, but he is also incredibly precise and caring. Dr. Ma is also an excellent communicator: not only is he very clear+concise in explaining things, he is also calm and assuring. Being his patient, I am fully trusting of him and I'm sure all of his patients feel the same way. I know his staff well throughout the years, and the team is very efficient and cheerful. I owe my well-being to Dr. Ma throughout the years, and I'm still able to see because of him. I've had various emergencies and critical situations, and without Dr. Ma's knowledge, professionalism, calmness and reassuring words, I wouldn't know what would happen. He's truly dedicated and passionate as a doctor (so I don't mind the wait at each visit!) Dr. Ma's awesome!  Respond

19/07/12 5 3 5 5 Dr. Ma is the best. I have been seeing him for 4 yrs. for various problems. I have found his staff to be as dedicated as he is - which is "to the max." I have waited three hours as he had emergency surgery and instead of having us go home, several of his nearby colleagues saw us on his behalf, well past six in the evening. Even retailers don't go that far! Any delays you encounter in his office are because he is helping someone who is in need of immediate care, and he would do the same for you if he hasn't already. His commitment to patient care is second to none. In the emergency room of an Edmonton hospital for an eye emergency, the eye specialist team smiled and beamed "We all know Dr.Ma!" Clearly, he is well respected, trusted, and liked and for very good reason. He is a gift to those of us who are retina-challenged! Thank you Dr. Ma THANK YOU TEAM.  Respond

01/06/12 5 4 5 5 Very dedicate. staff fit me in immediately upon my complaint of lights flashing after cataract surgery. He said to call him night or day if the retina detached. I feel he is very knowledgeable and dedicated. Still some work to do but I know I am in good hands and am reassured to see so many other good reviews.  Respond

09/10/10 5 3 4 5 Dr. Ma is a retina guru. Could be a bit more open when explaining medical situations. His staff of Lorraine, Jillian and Agnes are in a class by themselves - strictly 5-star!  Respond

03/09/10 5 3 5 5 It doesn't matter I have to wait 2 hours every time I visit. Too many people need his help. I have seen him since I was 23 for 15 years. I will not allowed anyone else to touch my eyes except him. My deepest thanks to Dr Ma for all these years.  Respond

31/08/10 5 5 5 5 I have seen many, many eye doctors all over much of the US and in western Canada... I current see three doctors and will have issues for life. Dr. Ma has been extemely good... he is very knowledgeable (one of the best I have been with), he understands and evaluates at a very high level. He is more responsive to emergency situations and responds in the full knowledge that eye problems can be amazingly time sensitive. That would explain why he has to leave the office and deal with great variations in patient wait times. He came into the hospital at 11:30PM to assess my problem and had me in surgery by 7AM. I feel he is a complete professional, is hugely dedicated, and is THE person I would want for myself or other family members in an emergency... and for follow-up care.  Respond

18/05/10 5 1 1 1 Dr Ma portrayed himself as caring but once complications were realized post surgery he made himself unavailable. He is not a people person. Parents need to be cautious about bringing their children to see him. Always seek a second opinion!  Respond

02/05/10 2 3 2 4 Good bedside manner at first but he immediately became rude and cold when we tried to ask for explanations as to the many post-surgery complications. We were being polite and did not deserve you tip toeing around all of our questions. We will deffinately be seeking a second opinion from here on out. Yes you perform these surgeries all of the time but you should consider the fact that the patients end is not so care free.  Respond

02/10/09 4 2 5 5 I have been seeing Dr. Ma for 14 years. He is often running far behind as he accepts patients with emergencies throughout his day. As I first saw him as one of those emergencies, I have no problem waiting extra time. As a doctor he is patient about explaining diagnosis and treatment. Unlike some specialists I have seen he speaks to me as an intelligent and interested party and doesn't ignore my input. I needed to catch a ferry to see him the first time, and he waited until after hours to see me. His dedication to his patients is obvious. I highly recommend him.  Respond

10/04/09 5 5 5 5 I've been seeing Dr. Patrick Ma for nearly 3 years now after suffering an initial retinal detachement follow by a macular detachement weeks later. I've been typically going in for appointments every 8 weeks and have never encountered extremely long waits. I previously was dealing with Dr. Ross who I found to be very ubrupt and failed to listen or answer my questions when i had them. His initial response to my injury was quite bluntly "you'll just have to live with your visual impraiment, there is nothing you can do. I have since gone to Dr. Ma who was prepared to attempt different treatments and did see the potential in improving my vision. I am happy to report that over the coars of the last few years my vision while still blurry has improved significantly since visiting Dr. Ma. For any patients who are looking for a Dr. who is honest but also sensitive to your conditions as a patient who has gone throough a pretty big ordeal losing their eyesight, i would strongly recommend Dr. Ma.  Respond
