10/06/13 5 5 5 5 I never had a problem with Dr. Kokan's receptionist. She was friendly and very professional when I talked to her. She does not do chit chat and small talk but that's fine with me. It's too bad other people had a bad experience with her, I think she is great.  Respond

09/05/13 1 3 3 3 I agree with the many emails about Dr. Kokans receptionist being rude and a horrible human being. I experienced her not wanting to make an appt. for me with Dr. Kokan, being sworn at on the telephone (I wish I could of taped the telephone conversation but was at work and couldn't) and being just plain nasty and rude. She even hang up on me. Burnaby Hospital and many other doctors know of her reputation and said there is nothing they can do about it. It's up to Dr. Kokan. I know my Dr. won't refer anyone to Dr. Kokan anymore because of this witch. This is a plea for Dr. Kokan to replace this nasty person with someone that actually likes working with people and is 1/2 human at least. Please Dr. Kokan if you read this do something about that witch that you call your receptionist. I'm thinking of printing all these comments and mailing it to Dr. Kokan. My one hope is that this hag will retire soon as she must be 65.  Respond

13/03/13 1 2 5 5 Any positive comments on here about the staff being nice, are either about a second office staff or temp relief, or they are damage control placed by the receptionist or her friends. She is so rude. Told me she told me I could not talk to the doctor about any problem other than my knee -- but Dr. Kokan didn't feel that way at all - because my problems are connected. BUT worse that that, I have now been waiting for 6 WEEKS for her to do ONE piece of paperwork, which is get a referral signed by the doctor and fax it back to the hospital. They have tried, I have tried and she is RUDE, even obnoxious to all of us, and she simply doesn't do it. It is such a shame that unions protect such useless employees and even more of tragedy that a great doctor like Dr. Kokan is stuck with this obnoxious woman! Obvious how ignorant she is -- how do you get up and go to work every day when there are about 20 complaints on Rate MDs about you. SHOWS SHE DOES NOT CARE!!! Patients do not deserve this!  Respond

23/10/12 1 2 2 5 I believe Peter Kokan is a competent surgeon and a nice guy...His receptionist, on the other hand, is without question the WORST receptionist of any kind I have EVER dealt with. On top of her rudeness, ignorance and all round negativity, this "person" is incompetent. Her paperwork is poor and inaccurate. She has a DREADFUL reputation with the hospital staff where my surgery was performed. Any reference of Kokan's receptionist with the hospital staff is typically met with a scowl or a rueful laugh followed by a, shall we say, "colorful" description of this woman's attitude, ability and nature.  Respond

26/06/12 5 5 5 5 After reading all of the comments on here i was a little apprehensive about my shoulder surgery with Dr. Kokan. I had my surgery at False Creek in Vancouver (maybe the bad reviews are not coming from the private clinic). The staff was amazing, no crazy receptionist here. The staff was also very helpful leading up to the surgery. As for Dr. Kokan, he was great. He spent a lot of time talking to me before the surgery, and answering my concerns. Based on our conversation he is a very honest man. As for the surgery, it went very well. I give the doc two thumbs up, and would not hesitate to recommend him.

12/06/12 1 3 4 4 Despite the fact that he made an error in my initial surgery, I still trust him as a doctor. His mistake could have been made by any surgeon, and at least he admitted it and did what he could to repair it. The receptionist is the problem. I work in the healthcare industry so speak with a lot of doctor office receptionists. She is the worst. I brought it up to Dr. Kokan, and I know he had her go for sensitivity training in 2010 or 2011. She improved for a few months but apparently is back to her old ways. Surgery is stressful and she makes it worse. She has made me cry on at least 3 occasions in the 2 years I have gone through this. I just see him in the hospital now rather than dealing with the trauma of having to see her.  Respond

04/05/11 1 1 1 1 I an pretty new in this country, with a broken leg! I have never met anything like him. First of all, the puntuality, please prepare your self for about 1 hr and 30 min wait. A desorganized team and rude secretary. But that is not the worse it could get. I think peoples time deserve some respect, because for every appt I have to get some time off work. What was actually unbeliavable was wait 3 months and been there waiting for 1.5 hrs to see him and get an apologie for not having your images and report, and not having any answer for my problem. Its been a few times an I still waiting for options, to my treatment. Please people, do not waste your time with Drs that will not have respect for your time and will not help you to get treated  Respond

25/02/11 5 5 5 5 Dr Kokan was very pleasant and professional I read this site before going to his office - was scared to death as to how I would be treated by his receptionist - Have no idea what all these negative "people" are talking about - she greeted me with a smile - was extremely friendly -I listened closely to how she spoke on the phone and how she talked to other pts. Seriously, she could NOT be nicer - I am almost 70 and have seen a great number of receptionist in action over the years - I am not kidding she was one of the nicest I have ever encountered - she phoned 3 different clinics to arrange an ultrasound and was able to narrow my waiting time from 6 months down to 2 weeks. A very kind undertaking considering how busy she was. She did this while pleasantly attending to other patients. I am convinced that the same person (obviously disgruntled)has either repeatedly rated this office or they have had friends do it for them The consensus on this site could not be further from the truth  See Responses

19/11/10 5 5 5 5 Contrary to other ratings- the office staff get 5 stars from me. Having given up on the hope of my family doctor ever getting a referral for my 15 year old son, I contacted Dr. Kokan's office directly. My son is an athlete- and has already been unable to play for 6 months since he was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Dr. Kokan's office was unbelievable. They were able to get my son in that same week and were helpful and courteous. My husband has had knee surgery recently with Dr. Kokan - and he also has nothing but great things to sya both about the doctor and the office staff ( my new heroes!)  See Responses

19/10/10 1 3 3 3 The "Receptionist" is rude to the extreme, quite ignorant and just a nasty human. This tyrant left me two voice mails threatening to cancel my operation that is "supposed" to happen two weeks hence. She must have some real dirt on the Doctor to be kept in employment. She may be a mentally challenged relative but for certain no one else except a prison would hire such a sick, demented person.  Respond

03/03/10 4 4 5 5 I think Dr Kokan is great. I also think his receptionist is great. I'm sure she has to deal with people in paining complaining about surgery dates and everything else.(which is out of her control) She is one lady in a VERY busy office. Give the gal a break, you may find if you are alittle more patient and understanding you would like her more  Respond

09/11/09 2 3 5 5 I rated punctuality low since I happened to be there on the day of the worst snowfall of the year & he was stuck in his driveway. No this fault. His receptionist was delighted. I had never seen her in such a good mood as she watched patients suffering through a 4 hour wait. Mind you, listening to her field phone calls is entertaining to say the least. This is a great surgeon, BTW.  Respond

09/11/09 1 2 3 3 The receptionist is just rude and mean. She is argumentative, uncaring and seems to derive pleasure by harassing the patients. The first time I visited this office, I witnessed a patient being humiliated by her in a crowded lounge. I thought it could be a rare case. But soon I realized that she loves to pick up a fight with the patients. She does not need a reason to be mean and abusive. She started arguing with me when I asked for an alternate appointment date and then she hung up on me. I called her back and repeated my question. She then told me never to call her and to correspond with her by fax only! What a horrible person for a front desk staff. if you try telling Dr. kokan about her, he pretends not to hear and changes the topic . Dr. Kokan knows it and I think it is very unprofessional of him to subject his patients to such abusive treatment by his staff. This is wrong.  See Responses

20/08/09 1 3 4 4 the saddest part of ALL of the comments is the fact that she treats EVERYONE alike, referring doctors, staff from other medical offices, and worst of all, his livelihood, his patients.. why should she destroy this excellent surgeon's practice...how is it that he is so blind? Wake up Dr K...  Respond

16/07/09 1 5 4 4 Does anyone know if the office hag is a relative? I mean really, thats the only way that i can think she would even still be there. Ive had 5 knee surgeries with Dr K, and he's pretty cool... but she's unbearable ..  Respond

14/06/09 3 1 1 1 Well, I don't think it matters how nice the doctor is, or how un-nice his receptionist is. The bottom line is that this surgeon is crap. His surgery is useless, and his follow-up is nonexistent. Find another surgeon if you require orthopaedic surgery.  Respond

01/04/09 1 3 3 3 I agree with everyone on this page. I am truly sorry I have him for my surgeon even though Dr. K is warm, friendly and appears caring, he does no one a favour in keeping his office hag. I think he is soo busy he doesn't remember what he tells his patients and when you call for an appointment she will quite bluntly tell you he doesn't want to see you for 6 weeks, even tho', he has said call if your knee isn't better. You can not even ask her the simplest question - she basically hangs up in your ear. I can't even describe my true feelings for this in any printable terms and if I do need an arthroscopy to correct what is wrong, I am most reluctant now to have it done by Dr. K. Am still struggling after 6 months (total knee replacement) and can't get an answer except "All knees are different". Give me a break!!  Respond

10/03/09 1 1 1 1 Insiders refer to Dr. Kokans receptionist as "the devil". It can only be seen to be believed, but save yourself the heartache and see another surgeon. Dr. Kokan is aware of his receptionists behaviour as I've heard patients complain to him myself about her. However, he uses her as a barrier between himself and the patient. It's unfortunate because he loses a lot of patients to other surgeons. The receptionist treats everyone horribly and doesn't get any 'above and beyond' treatment from facilities. Therefore, neither will you if you seen him.  Respond

02/09/08 1 5 4 5 I have had 4 knee surgeries to date, due to how my legs were formed. Dr Kokan has always been a great surgeon.. although after this last (major) surg I tried and tried to get ahold of him because i thought there was something wrong and ended up back in the hosp (different hosp).. long story short, my dad ended up getting ahold of him and by then everything was ok. Since this instance his office telephone hours have gone from 3 days a week to 5 (yay) And I ABSOLUTELY agree his receptionist is HORRRRRRIBLE!! I hate calling in there!! When i had my first surg in 2001 he had that sweetest receptionist.. i loved her.. and then all of a sudden for my next surg i am dealing with this witch!!! WOW is all i have to say... i hope Dr. Kokan sees all these posts!!  Respond

17/07/08 1 3 4 4 I had a torn miniscus on both sides and a complete ACL repair by Dr. Kokan. I've since had a scope on the same knee. He seems to be very knowledgable, he is helpful, caring, concerned, he takes the time to answer my questions no matter how many I have. I fully agree with the other posts on this site, his receptionist is extremely rude and nasty on the telephone. She's not sympathetic or caring at all. She is almost vicious.  See Responses

11/07/08 1 1 3 4 He may be knowledgable but does not explain things very well to the patient. He lacks follow up. He's polite but obviously over worked and I think that is why you don't get the attention to have things explained properly. He doesn't have time.  Respond

15/05/08 1 3 5 5 A very capable and knowledgeable doctor. His receptionist is another matter. Rude, arrogant, horrible to deal with. She has threatened to cancel my appointments. 01/03/08 1 4 5 5 Dr. Kokan is extremely personable & knowledgeable. Takes time to explain procedures and address any questions or concerns. It is, however, too soon to comment on the success of my recent knee surgery. Unfortunately, dealing with his office Receptionist(when you DO manage to FINALLY get through on the phone)...is a nightmare! She's unpleasant, rude & her bad attitude is enough to send you running/limping to a new Orthopedic Surgeon.  Respond
