I was a patient for 8 years. Average GW doctor. I called her to discuss something on a Friday morning. Call was not returned until Tuesday - 4 days! I never went back to her. NOBODY should see any doctors at GW because they are on probation now. Go to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore... first-class all the way. I do.
Dr. Gaba delivered my son via C-Section I loved her and she did a great job. The problem, is that she is at GW Hospital. This hospital is so overloaded with patients, that patients, dr's, and staff all suffer. GW cant just turn patients away, and I dont see the DC govt just building another hospital. Dr. Nancy Gaba is a wonderful person and a great dr. She is just in a bad situation being in such a overloaded hospital.
Dr. Gaba was my doctor before and until just after the birth of my child. She increased my Synthroid levels to a dose that was too high, causing me to lose weight during the last six weeks of my pregnancy, and to have heart palitations after pregnancy. She repeatedly told me my drug levels were "fine," but when I finally looked at the lab results myself, my drug levels were so high that the lab could not even measure my TSH levels. The test results were also very clearly marked as "HIGH." To me, this is incompetance. It took several months with an endocrinologist to straighten things out. Also, Dr. Gaba "abandoned" me after my son was born. She never looked at my C-section incision while I was in the hospital or gave me instructions on how to take care of myself after surgery. Consequently, my incision reopened and became infected. She seems nice and personable, but she is more interested in talking to you about personal matters and the news than being your doctor.

I always waited at least an hour for my appointment. Had an irregular pap and did not hear about it until 4 months after my exam. She then said I need to come in for biospy (4 months after my pap was irregular!). After I had a this painfull biospsy the doctor never came back in the room to check on me or give me "next steps". I called to get my results a week later (which the nurse said were in), she never called me back. Called again the next week and found out that she was on vacation. (I was worried about this results, I would have been nice for her to take 2 minutes to call me before she left for a vacation). Finally got my results from another doctor. This office does not have time for new patients. The doctors are too busy, no time to talk with patients. I never even had the chance to talk about my test results with Dr. Gaba, it wasn't until I changed doctors that I actually got to discuss these results and what to do next. I do not recommend seeing Dr. Gaba.
