This doctor walks on water!!! We have only lived here 1 1/2 years and did not know any neurosurgeons in the Las Vegas area. Three months ago my husband found out he had developed benign tumors on the top of his spin...(originally diagnosed through tests and other doctors as bone spurs). They had been growing many years and had formed a "shelf" in his throat which made it difficult toimpossible to eat. For two months prior to his surgery, he lived on milk shakes and pudding with his crushed up meds. We did extensive research online, listened to other people's experiences, and interviewed doctors. After our first consultation with Dr. Peoples, with all the confidence in the world, we chose him to perform this rare and difficult surgery. From our first meeting to the post op appointment, he answered all of our questions with knowledge and assurance that he could perform the surgery successfully. He never made us feel we were taking up his valuable time nor did he rush us while we were seeking information. The morning of surgery, Dr. Peoples and his anesthesiologist spent half an hour+ detailing the procedure for us. While my husband was in recovery, both of them met with me and continued
to keep me (us) informed with details. Not once were we ever made to feel rushed like so many doctors have become accustomed to doing. Most tend to act like your problem is just another "run of the mill" bother to them. They can be rude and unconcerned about your needs as a patient.
My wife has been in a lot of back pain for several years, and after having an MRI with contrast conducted, was told she has a syrinx on her thoracic spine, and that it would need to be surgically removed or she'd start losing sensation in her extremities and eventually would be unable to walk. After researching neurosurgeons on the internet, we asked our primary care physician to refer us to Dr. Peoples, not just because he appeared to be highly credentialed, but also because he had the most positive patient ratings we'd ever seen, especially for honesty with patients, and compassionate care. He certainly lived up to his reputation for honesty and compassion, with us. After reviewing my wife's MRI, he went over it in great detail with us, and told my wife there would be no surgery necessary, and that her back pain was being caused by other issues, which he took time to explain as well as offering helpful advice in dealing with it, including some simple do-it-yourself home therapy. He could just as easily have told us she needed immediate surgery, and we'd have had no reason to disbelieve him based on what we'd previously been told about her MRI results. But honesty and care for his patients appear to be more important to him than the money. My wife and I are both 60 years old now, and have been through the mill with doctors over the past 10 years, so this was certainly a refreshing change. If I ever had to have neurosurgery, I'd certainly trust Dr. Peoples. I know he wouldn't do anything outside of what was actually needed to resolve the situation. He's just that kind of doctor. Too bad there aren't more like him.
On May 10th 2014, Dr. Peoples performed a C6 / C7 fusion on my neck. My experience with him was amazing. I was in chronic pain taking 4 Hydrocodone pills a day to function, and could not lay down. For 5 months I slept in a lazy boy chair, and went through every nonsurgical option available to me, including steroid injections in my neck. When the injections failed, surgery was my last option. I was fortunate to find Dr. Peoples and to have him perform the surgery on me. He was wonderful, and St Rose Hospital where he performed the surgery was great. Every step along the way I felt informed, and comfortable with my decision to have surgery with Dr. Peoples. He spent time with me to help me understand my MRI results, and was up front about the procedure, and what to expect before and post surgery. Las Vegas is very fortunate to have such a skilled neurosurgeon as Dr. Peoples.
Dr Peoples consulted on a head injury and concussion that I sustained. He has been very helpful understanding what I'm going through and when I can expect to get better, and his followup has been fantastic. A really great guy, too. Highly recommended.
I had a herniated disc on my L5S1. Some of the most prominent Neurosurgeons in my area said that my herniation is not significant and that my pain probably comes from arthritis. When I first met Dr. Peoples he spent well over an hour with me. He said that many people heal a herniated disc with a specific physical therapy. He referred me to a McKenzie specialist in hopes that surgery wouldn't be necessary. But I still felt the pain and went back to Dr. Peoples resolved to have a microdiscectomy. It was the best decision I've ever made. I am 2 months post op and feel like a new person. My pain is already 90% reduced from what it was pre-op. I healed beautifully and I'm sure it is because I was in such gifted hands as Dr. Peoples. I can now sit on the floor and read to my kids and carry my groceries without pain. I also no longer take any pain medication. Dr. Peoples is truly a gifted surgeon who cares deeply about his patients. He is that diamond in the rough that is so hard to find.
When I went to Dr. Peoples I was seeing another Doctor who had already scheduled me for cervical surgery. Dr. Peoples evaluated me and put me on a special therapy program which I followed to the best of my ability day and night. here it is almost six months after I was scheduled to have the surgery and I feel like a new person and I am living a pain free life. Dr. Peoples has the knowledge and is not in a rush to cut, but is open to try to heal before he goes to the extreme. Phil
Dr. Peoples performed cranial decompression surgery on my 9 year child, who has chiari malformation with syrinx. We spent a substantial time researching pediatric neurosurgeons on the west coast, and after receiving glowing recommendations from other doctors, decided to stay in Las Vegas with Dr. Peoples. The surgery was successful and we are thrilled with Dr. Peoples. His demeanor with my child was fantastic and she still smiles when we mention his name. He patiently answered our questions and thoroughly reviewed her case before recommending surgery. I would recommend him to any adult or child who suffers from chiari.
Not only did Dr. Peoples do a discectomy on me for two herniated discs, he listed to me a grieving mother that had been told her 22 year old son had Lou Gehrig's disease aka ALS. My son had seen 4 neurologists and had 3 MRIs. On a hunch Dr. Peoples asked to see him and he discovered all my son had was a severe cervical herniation causing all the symptoms and muscle atrophy that had been so gravely misdiagnosed. My son is a MMA fighter who looks chiseled out of stone but his hands were so atrophied he could not even open a water bottle. Dr. Peoples did surgery 3 days later, that was June 2011, and now my son is recovering and can open that water bottle. Dr. Peoples gave us both our lives back. He is truly an amazing human being and he will always be my hero. I thank God everyday for his kindness and expertise.
