Dr Apel comes across as a bit brusque. But after having been treated by her I found her to be kind, compassionate, extremely knowledgeable. She actually took the time to listen to me and helped me with my WCB claim. I give her a 9/10 on all counts. She truly helped me.

Worst medical experience of my life. DO NOT visit her. I have visited over a dozen doctors in the past two years for a very complex and painful injury, and have never received such uninformed and discompassionate treatment. Maryana Apel (I can't even bring myself to call her a doctor) was cruel - there is no other word for it. From the moment that I walked into her office (she was almost an hour late) she treated me like I was lying about my injury, was looking down at papers the entire time, and basically told me I should not be in pain (after talking to me for less than 2 minutes). She smirked at the test results I provided her. She tried to humiliate me for not being on pain meds 24/7, saying that if I was actually in pain, I would be medicating myself ALL of the time, no matter what the side effects. During the physical exam, she poked and prodded me with no tact. She 'prescribed' swimming and yoga - things that every other doctor have told me NOT to do because they are not safe.

First off if I could I would not even give 1 for a rating I would give 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 receptionist was very rude! no manners does not smile.. I saw a 90 year old lady come in and she didn't even help her...she had a walker couldn't hear or see very well.. Has NO Compassion.I give 0000000 for the receptionist ..I guess some people are just plain mean and not very thoughtful of others.. This Doctor has NO manners NO explanation on what she is doing.. just stuck a needle in my arm half inch in without pre warning me what she was doing .. all she said was she had a needle.. I guess the English isn't very good! I see she has a lot of comments about patience filing with the College of Physicians & Surgeons..that is what am going to do also. I am sure these negative responses have been read by this Apel but she obviously does not care to change anything. Do not go see this doctor I am sure there are many more out there that are great. I will be requesting a second opinion from my own doctor.

I have no complaints about this doctor at all. I've been seeing her for years for chronic back pain and she has gone out of her way to help me on several occasions. Perhaps people giving poor ratings don't like the fact that she calls it as she sees it and shows little sympathy. If you want someone to spend a long time listening to your problems and being sympathetic, perhaps a therapist would be more appropriate- or a new age crystal waving naturopath... If on the otherhand, you need an extremely knowledgeable and efficient doctor, look no further.

Same problems as others.Saw her because of my injuried neck, arranged by WCB. Started late, short interview, shorter exam. I moved as she dictated to her handheld recorder. She told me nothing, report to go to WCB. I.M.E. was invalid, Lack of effort. I would not recommend her to anyone.I have filed a complaint with the College of Physicians & Surgeons, underway. If you have had problems PLEASE CONTACT Michelle at the College at 1-866-969-4955.

Everything that's been said about this so called Dr. is true, with the exception of the "good" ratings, which I believe have been posted by friends and/or family. I questioned my visit to her for such a long time, until I finally decided to look her up and see if she was still in practice, or still around for that matter. I came across these ratings and was so happy to see i wasn't the only one who had a negative experience with this woman. She is beyond rude, arrogant and condescending! I won't hesitate to report her, and her lame what she calls "practice". This woman should NOT be practicing. Period!!! Please insist on seeing someone else if you are referred to her!

REFUSE to see this QUACK. Late, rude, rough, and is furious when you can't understand her mumbling & her incomprehensible English. If you are forced to see her, bring a camera to take a pic of the form she has you fill out-she won't let you have a copy of it and questions are all closed and geared for a finding of fibromyalgia. Bring a witness to exam room, as she won't let you record or TAKE NOTES-which is illegal- & she documents the OPPOSITE of what you tell her, if it supports her predetermined, incorrect findings. I told her I was in pain when she asked me to do things or did things to me and she said it was “fine” and documented as such. She refused to hear or document information which did not match her predetermined finding. She's not interested in healing you or helping you, but being paid a HUGE sum of money to write a report for insurance companies. I am reporting her for unethical behaviour and hope her license is removed.

Dr. Apel was 1/2 hour late for my appointment, and proceeded to make coffee while I waited. She was unnecessarily rough in her physical exam. She does not care what you have to say, and repeatedly ignored me. She cut my foot while examining my nerves, and when I jumped, she insisted on repeating the exam. She rudely wanders around the room, muttering into a recorder, looking at her medical charts while her patient shivers, scantily clothed in a hospital gown. Within my hearing distance she stated that my symptoms were affected. I will be making a formal complaint with the College of Physicians of Alberta, and I encourage the rest of the people that were forced to endure her examination to do the same. This woman should not be allowed to practice her torturous exams under the guise of medicine.
