My experience with my first appt. with Dr. Gray's office was a disaster and I didn't even get to see him.
As instructed, I arrived 10 minutes early for my appt. The receptionist was busy with a man I assumed to be Dr. Gray. She didn't greet me of give me any instructions. I sat in the waiting room. 30 minutes later, still nobody has come to talk to me. The doctor goes back and forth between his office. He, too, ignores me. Another ten minutes passes. The receptionist comes to me and instruct meto go to the patient room. I sat there for another 15 minutes. Still no one came to give me an update or an apology for the long delay. In my mind, I calculate the cost for my parking in that expensive part of town: it's well over $10 now.
It's been one hour now in the office and I have talked to anyone yet…and I am still the only patient there. How unprofessional. His time is precious, but mine is also.
It has been a very long time since I was treated so poorly by a doctor. Nowadays doctors and specialists are much better organized and respectful of their clients .
I finally left and went away. The doctor was again in deep conversation with the receptionist. No one cared that I left.
I appreciated the help from Dr. Gray and his initial treatment seemed to work for me. The problem has been with trying to get a follow up appointment. He has now moved to an answering service to screen his calls. I have called 4 times and no returned call. I went to my GP and asked that he contact Dr. Gray on my behalf....and still no follow up call. This combined with his excessive wait periods (an hour past my appointment both times) and I've had it with this guy.
I was referred to Dr. Gray after 4-5 years of eczema due to "food allergies." After reviewing my daily skin routine and current allergies, he referred basic skin care (which I did not believe in and almost always avoided with expensive makeup and products), topical ointments, a serum allergy test and referral to an allergist. Returned in 4 weeks, my face almost completely clear and he recommended follow up instructions in case of an eczema flare. Staff was helpful with referrals, appointments were always late in his office. I would refer people to Dr. Gray because he does take the time to explain what the root causes of things are and recommends basic changes before moving onto anything more drastic. Very helpful Dr.
There seems to be a lot of negative comments here, which in my opinion of Dr. Gray are unfair. I grew up with a Physician at home (my dad, GP, 47 years) and can relate to both side of the equation (patients and the doctors). I myself hold a doctorate degree in Genetics, so not a complete lay person when it comes to diseases and their potential causes. Dr. Gray spend the time needed to explain what he needed to tell me. Answered my question relating to the cause of the disease and even went in to the molecular pathways which are though to be responsible for my condition. Gave me fair option and a sound medical advice. That all a doctor is there for. He/She is not there to be your best friend, spend time listing to your life story about your diseases as he/she has already seen it 10,000 time. So please have realistic expectation of your doctors. Cheers
I am amazed at some of the comments in these ratings. I found Dr. Gray to be competent, thorough, and extremely personable and pleasant. I had some strange lesions on my elbows, knees, and ankles, as well as some red splotches on my face that looked like rosacea but wasn't. These required a variety of treatments, all of which were carefully written down for me and explained. The staff always gave me a written copy of these instructions. Plus it is fun that his brother is an ER doctor who has written a book (with lively humour) about his experiences, and I bought a copy from the office staff. Beyond his thorough medical knowledge, he has a wide-ranging and thoughtful mind on a variety of subjects. Great doctor and person.
Waited 40 minutes but not a huge deal, all medical appointments seem to run late. No issues whatsoever with Dr. Gray. He answered my questions, took his time to explain the options. He didn't seem overly enthusiastic, but we were discussing moles after all... I'm going back for mole removal and would recommend him to anyone.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Gray. He is very accurate and methodical in his diagnosis of potential skin cancer. He is precautious and proactive in doing tests or undertaking steps to determine if an area is cancerous. He does not hesitate to recommend and refer out to other dermatologists who have specialty areas for the next step treatment or surgical options. He is very knowledgeable and helpful in educating and explaining to patients his assessment and recommended next steps to take. He gladly answers any questions a patient has, and writes down notes for further research if a patient is interested. In short, he is the ideal dermatologist if you want a thorough and complete assessment at a high professional competence level. Some commentators have talked about his personality. I liked his personality very much. His style appears to be laid back, but he has a keen mind, is precise and accurate and takes nothing for granted. You want to see this dermatologist.
He certainly has a lot of bad reviews and reading them before the appointment made me very anxious. The reality is Dr Gray is a pretty average doctor in that it's what you can usually expect from the Canadian Health Care system. I had to wait about a half hour to see him, he was brisk and to the point, seemed a little impatient but he got right down to it. It felt like he didn't want me to waste his time, sure, but he also seemed intent not to waste mine either. I left in a reasonable amount of time with answers and prescriptions for my issue that he thoroughly walked me through. That's all I really expect or want upon seeing a specialist.
