I was very impressed with Dr Lau. I felt she REALLY knew her stuff. It was obvious that she had read my file thoroughly

I remember walking into Brenda's clinic as a scared, hopeless, and helpless young person. I had not only fallen through the medical system cracks, they swallowed me whole. After fighting the system for over 3 years, I asked her direction. She showed me that my heart beat was my compass. Brenda takes extra special time to speak of truths and share valuable knowledge and expertise in her field. I believe from the depth of my soul that she is involved in what she does because she believes in people and that THEY are the reason for change, provided one is willing to work as a team. I feel Brenda went above and beyond the normal call of "duty" in order to help me manage my chronic pain. I'm not sure I know of any other doctor that has ever made me feel as comfortable as Brenda does. People mention time... I don't feel she really looks at her watch either. She is very empathetic, genuine, and compassionate, which many doctors lack in today's day and age.

Dr. Lau is incredibly intelligent and thorough in her attention. In one hour she summarised my complicated case accurately and compassionately. She uses her team approach effectively and has given me more hope for some help; she does not promise miracles. I think she appreciates a patient who is straight forward and honest and I can only guess she wants to use her time as effectively as possible. Her feedback after treatment about what occurred, what to expect and a next step is exemplary. I recommend her without reservation.

This doctor knew nothing about my neuropathy. I had to manage my own pain management via emailing another specialist out of province! She never gave me the Chronic Pain Society's "Conquer Pain" booklet. She never saw me in a pain center yet she wrote my G.P. that she had? This doctor did nothing to help me;she brushed me off. Even after Pharmacare paid for me to get answers in the United States she continued to brush me off and always maintained her rational was due to, "our impoverished health care system". She said all she could offer me was medications. This was untrue. She is not to be trusted. Always bring an advocate with you if you see her. I could have died.

Dr Lau is the best!!!! I owe her my life. I still suffer from back problems and have found some relief using dry needling which is this form acupuncture that she introduced to me after she helped me taper of highly addicted medications. I had lost all control of my life until I met this remarkable women. Yes she is strict and confident, however this tough love is what people need when it comes to managing their pain in other alternative ways. I can confidently say that the people that are bad mouthing her are people who refuse to manage their pain without triplecate narcotics. Yes she runs late, but have you ever seen her list of qualifications....She runs late because she is in demand and great at what she does. She doesnt sugar coat things which I admire about her.I have met other collegues of her but nothing even close to the care and passion she has. She gives back to the community and charities and I only wish their was more drs like her. Words cant describe how awesome she is:)

Dr. Lau has helped me in 1 year more than all the other doctors I have seen in the last 10 years. She is extremely knowledgeable and wants to help you in alternative ways to prescription pain drugs, which is what I needed. Yes, she is always late but I would happily wait hours to see her. As another reviewer wrote - we need to clone Dr. Lau so she can help everyone everywhere. The Pain Clinic has been moved to the new Jim Pattison Health Center, which is bright and cheerful, much better than the basement at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The new receptionists are very professional and polite.

I don't quite know how much I can say, but be very careful if choosing this doctor. She has far too much on her plate and as a patient I ended up paying dearly, and that should never happen. Very abrupt, harsh bedside manner, not great for people dealing with serious chronic pain problems. Secretary could use a course in public relations and kindness as well and does not return calls either. Do yourself a favour, save the frustration and find another doctor.

Dr. Brenda Lau is a wonderful pain specialist. She is VERY compassionte and helpful and will do whatever she can to help you. She uses cutting edge techniques to help with pain. I can't say enough good things about her. The only downfall is that she always runs behind so be prepared to wait 30-60 min. Her staff are very friendly.
