I was referred to Dr. Duta for a routine colonoscopy after a FIT test was positive. This scoping process found two polyps, one of which was removed and the other biopsied. However the scope was unable to reach the end of my colon (cecum)so he arranged for a CT scan. At a follow-up appointment he showed me the CT report that had determined a potential neoplasm at the cecum. He was very thorough in his explanation of these results and took all the time I needed to understand them. We also made a decision to follow-up with another colonoscopy to take a closer look and he was prepared to conduct an immediate laparoscopy surgery to remove the neoplasm if the colonoscopy was unable to reach the cecum. This procedure was conducted within 4 days (on a Saturday), was successful in removing polyps at the cecum with the scope (no surgery needed). He called me the next day to see how I was doing and to make sure that I understood the procedure. I am very impressed with his work and character.

Saw Dr Duta about gallstones and stomach pain (chronic, acute). Didn't really know or suggest anything except take out gallbladder. Booked surgery. No appt prior so wasn't aware of side effects. Surgery day I saw him while waiting for OR to be ready (in hallway). He was grumpy and rushed and was not pleasant asking where the (anesthetist) was. Obviously agitated, didn't say hello (nurse with me going over chart). I asked if I can keep the gallstone to see it and he yells NOPE and turns to grab something in hallway. I asked why and he said some two word thing about it going somewhere (testing?). Leaves. I was anxious already and he seemed irritable, over booked perhaps, and not pleasant. Follow up had to be rescheduled due to family things and the staff on the phone are always short, rude, don't answer (we have tried calling to get through for days). I asked prior to surgery if I had a biopsy test done in my last scope (3 calls I asked) and no response. Appt seems rushed, is late.

Had my first hernia surgery with Dr Duta years ago and all went well. Recently had a hernia surgery and after one week had a massive hematoma and was in extreme pain for two weeks after being rushed to hospital for this internal bleeding. After researching on the internet it seems only 1% of people having this surgery have this complication and it historically in third world countries. I was not impressed and it has left me out of commission for quite a while, not able to work, or do much of anything.

I encountered Dr. Duta on emergency admission. In the previous 18 months I had two operations on my bowels. Both being done in Victoria. At the initial meeting he asked me to recite my medical history of the past 18 months. At the end of this, his first statement to me was "out of curiosity, why did you go to Victoria for your operation?" (Translation "why didn't you choose me ?"). Later on in the interview other disparaging remarks were made about "Victoria specialists". This was totally unprofessional and demonstrated his ego concerns were paramount to my concerns as a patient. His behaviour towards me after that was rude. He seemed very miffed that someone would choose another surgeon over himself. I don't know how good a surgeon he is I was able to transfer to Victoria for treatment but I can say with certainty that he is arrogant and has a very sensitive ego. So, watch out!

In APril of 2012, I was diagnosed with stage3/4 Colorectal cancer. Dr Duta was the surgeon. While I was in the hospital there was a problem with my white cell count and I was constantly concerned and advised them all about an aweful smell. I was discharged and ended up back in reverse isolation a month later due to an infection. At the one year date, I was to have a colonoscopy and I had to make all the arrangements only to have his secretary pull rank on me and cancel the procedure. I have never been so appalled at how I have been treated by this office. Now, I am awaiting a referral to a different Dr in hopes that I can get checked out to see if my cancer is gone. It has put a tremendous amount of stress on me. Also, he didn;t advise me that I would have bladder issues and now need bladder surgery too.

Dr. Duta removed my appendix, and the surgery was a success, no complications or side effects.
