Never saw him my entire three days in hospital or first follow up one week after surgery to remove drains and catheter. Later told me he could not see anything, used a template had to guess. And put clamps on my nerves. I learned later that he was not board certified as he stated and had been denied a medical license in Iowa. He has harmed many patients.
CMS cited Kaouk for performing multiple simultaneous surgeries beginning within minutes of each other twice per day. I believe he was illegally billing for surgeries for which he was not present performed by unsupervised doctors-in-training without patient consent. He stated to CMS investigators that only "one third" of his patients recovered sexual function, quite different than the 95-98% he represented to patients and the 90-95% represented on Cleveland Clinic website. Kaouk and the clinic have only disdain for their patients while billing for services not provided. He left me impotent, incontinent, and other injuries. Although his resident dictated a picture perfect op report with 150cc blood loss and no complications, Kaouk called my wife and said he "had trouble and got stuck" and then never met with her or me after surgery. I received 5500cc of colloids and crystalloids indicating a blood loss of 2000cc. Records do not show his presence at any time during my surgery suggesting unsupervised residents caused my permanent injuries. He has been under investigation by the State Medical Board of Ohio since 2011. AVOID!
PERMANENTLY HARMED LIVE KIDNEY DONOR - FAILED KIDNEY TRANSPLANT
I am one of several harmed patients who filed complaints with the State Medical Board of Ohio at the recommendation of Dr. Stewart Howards, executive secretary of the American Board of Urology. This complaint by several permanently harmed patients was opened on 11 August 2011 and remains under investigation. Read CHRIS's STORY

After my prostatectomy, I remained in Cleveland Clinic hospital for 6 days in tremendous pain. Against my will, I was discharged and within 24 hours was in emergency surgery in another city hospital where I lost part of my intestine, underwent 3 additional surgeries. I too was left totally impotent and incontinent. I believe Kaouk is an incompetent, uncaring, and dishonest doctor.
Dr. Kaouk was very informational and clear when discussing options for prostate cancer. Being only 44 years old, he clearly identified the associated risks and chances for a full recovery of all three aspects of the robotic surgery. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Kaouk, and I quickly developed a trust within him to go forward with the surgery. It has now been 22 months since the surgery and I am cancer free, and the other two aspects of the recovery are about as good as I could have hoped for. Thank you Dr. Kaouk for not only saving my life, but for allowing me the chance to resume all of the activities that I enjoyed prior to surgery.
I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2009. The first doctor I went to said because of the location of the cancer my whole left kidney needed to be removed. I then went for another opinion and this doctor recommended Dr. Kaouk. I am so thankful for his recommendation. Dr. Kaouk was extremely encouraging and reassured me he could remove the cancer successfully . The surgery was a complete success and I am now going on 5 years cancer free. He is extremely proficient, always upbeat and he did save my kidney and my life. My family and I will always be grateful to him and would recommend Dr. Kaouk to anyone.
Dr. Kaouk performed my partial nephrectomy in 2011 and did a wonderful job. I went back to Dr. Kaouk this year (2013) for a adrenalectomy. Dr. Kaouk is a wonderfully skilled surgeon and I am very grateful to him for saving my life.
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012.I was confused by the various treatments available to me. After getting several opinions I decided to have Dr. Kaouk do the robotic surgery. He explained in great detail the procedure, the risks and benefits. I was extremely confident that he had the proper skills. I was extremely pleased with the outcome and would highly recommend that Dr. Kaouk be considered if you need to have your prostate removed. I am now 6 months cancer free and do not have any incontinent problems (but do have to go to the bathroom more often which was expected. I understand that some people that posted had problems but there is always a risk in surgery and there are no guarantees. Joe B.
Dr. Kaouk successfully removed a tumor from my remaining kidney and saved 75% of the kidney. He and all who worked with him were wonderful to us. Most highly recommend anyone with kidney cancer requiring surgery to consult with Dr. Kaouk.
