As a health care professional I have watched 3 other Rheumatologists conducting their assessments. Dr. Northcott, in comparison, is very poor. She does not listen to your list of symptoms and she does not put the pieces of the puzzle together in order to determine what you are suffering from. I had 2 other Doctors/ Dentists determine new diagnoses for me and send me to Dr. Northcott for treatment. She completely missed each illness. When I went back she snapped at me that "that's NOT what you came in with last time!!" "Well this is NEW!!" I HAD told her about these symptoms before!! She is very quick to discharge patients from her caseload. One time I called her office to make an appointment 2 weeks after I saw her and I had been discharged already. She had told me to return in one month for reassessment??? I have had to return to my GP 3 times in one year in order to be re-referred to her. She prescribed medication that made me VERY sick. When I went back to her she said "yeah, not many people can tolerate that one." She stopped it, sent me on my way and discharged me. She had treated nothing. I had to be referred back for treatment AGAIN. Her receptionist can be very sharp with you and can make you feel very stupid. The ladies at the front desk are very, very kind and helpful. The other staff at the Arthritis Centre are very sweet. I would NOT recommend Dr. Northcott.

Dr. Northcott did a poor assessment and missed each of my diagnoses. She told me I need to take medications to treat my high blood pressure. I nearly fell off my chair! She sure missed this mark. For many years now have had to be very careful because my blood pressure is so low I pass out when I take some medications. If she lowered my blood pressure she would certainly cause harm. She does not listen to what you tell her. She can be quite intimidating, I don't want to go back.

I have been seeing Dr. Northcott for a few years and was quite happy for the first while but now not so much. After driving to see her for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, my appointment lasted about 3 minutes. She didn't seem to want to listen or to care in what I was trying to say. She spent more time talking about how busy she was and how she was getting more patients because a couple of Drs. retired. She needs to listen and to stop interrupting so people can say what they need to say. I feel as though it is a big waste of time every time I go and see her. I still continue to see her though in hopes that one day she will actually be able to help me. Hopefully more doctors will specialize in Rheumatology so more people can actually get the help they need.

Dr. Northcott is a very knowledgable and kind physician. It can be difficult to get an appointment with her as she works part time and is very much in demand. However, she is very thorough and skilled as a rheumatologist. She does not push medication (as some other reviewers have suggested) but listens carefully to her patients. Her careful review of my chart at the start of each appointment means that she is not relying on her memory and will be more accurate in her assessments. I highly recommend her.

I cannot say enough on the positive side about Dr. Northcott. She is: obviously competent, very thorough, understanding, younger, dynamic, energetic, patient, caring, compassionate, empathetic, a good listener, affable, approachable, positive, and good with kids too! Didn't rush to diagnosis. Didn't rush to treatment with drugs. Her receptionist is also very good, and the two of them are in sync with each other. Dr. Northcott is the best doctor I have ever seen. Full stop. The city of Victoria is lucky to have a doctor of her calibre. And so am I.

While Dr. Northcott is a very pleasant woman, I do not feel that she was very helpful to me other than just prescribing medication to mask symptoms (chronic pain). I did not feel like she was very in touch with what I was going through and spent most of our appointments reviewing my chart, rather than listening to my current complaints. This is frustrating given that I can only get a 20 min appointment once every 6 months. I found that I got way better advice elsewhere for managing my arthritis and pain (naturopaths/acupuncturists, sleep study, dietary changes etc...) I have realized that I have a lot of issues with food allergies/insomnia and this was in fact contributing a great deal to pain/flare ups. I cannot credit Dr. Northcott in being able to provide any helpful advice in this regard. She is all about drugging the problem away and I did not leave her office with much hope that my health would ever improve.

Dr. Northcott is very kind and always on time. The office receptionist Cheryl is always very pleasant, polite, professional . You feel that they work together well and care very much for their patients. When not feeling well coming to this office makes you feel a little better, thank you for your care

She's both a good doctor, and a beautiful woman. I found her to be very helpful, and answered all my questions. It was hard to get to see her because she's in high demand, but worth the wait. A friend of mine also saw her and said the same thing, she was a great doctor to him.

Dr. Northcott was prompt, thoughtful, and helpful. She was thorough in her examination and her questions. On the other hand, her Receptionist was horrible. I came from Courtnay with Wheels for Wellness. She refused to contact Wheels after the appointment to let them know I was ready for pick up. She then told me to go find a payphone, and then refused to make change for me, because "that's not what I do". I have never had a Receptionist refuse to contact Wheels for Wellness after an appointment in the eight years I have used this program. Fortunately for me, the ladies at the front desk of the Clinic saw my confusion and stepped in and helped. They had no problem with contacting Wheels for Wellness for me. In closing, two thumbs up for Dr. Northcott, but two thumbs down for her horrible receptionist.
