I did a consult with Dr. Smith early 2015 and found him calm, knowledgeable, and patient. I asked him some follow up questions by email and went to see him at his office after to clarify some of my questions as he needed to see my nose again. I paid for one consultation fee, received digital imaging, and found Dr. Smith to be kind, honest, and realistic. Unfortunately, however, the email exchange between us stopped as he communicated to me that he feels that I may not be completely content with the improvements that he can make to my nose. He prefers to not operate on a patient who may not be happy at the end rather than have an unhappy patient. I really appreciated his honesty and wrote to him with a final question with respect to a suggested change to my nose and did not hear back from him. I felt that he lost interest in my case given my many questions. I think I even called Beena to ask her to forward my email to him again but didn't hear back. The only recommendation I would have for him is to be open to patients having anxiety about the procedure (especially if it's their first time) and consider and explain different scenarios to patients like me who may over-think a decision as big as rhino. I would've been happy to go with him as my surgeon but it's hard for a patient to do that when they feel that their PS has lost interest in helping them. I did want to write this review. however, as I have consulted with 5 surgeons in Toronto so far, and I've found Dr. Smith's honesty and calm demeanor outstanding.
With all the respect to very few negative experiences I see here I honestly think he is the best rhinoplasty surgeon out there . His work speaks for itself . Some other surgeons I have seen promoting on tvs and magazines that is pattern I would worry a lot . He was the best for and I'm happy I chose Dr smith absolutely amazing . He is very honest and very highly skilled surgeon . I will recommend him with all my heart to anyone who will need a nose job .
I had a second revision rhinoplasty with Dr. Smith in August 2014. I was not happy with my first revision performed by another doctor in Toronto 6 years ago, which had left me with a crooked looking nose and pinched tip. I was scared and very hesitant to go through the process again… I’m so glad I found Dr. Smith. He is amazing and his expertise was obvious from the first consultation. He made me feel comfortable and was confident he could make my nose look better even though I know it was going to be a difficult procedure.
Today I am 7 months post operation and my nose no longer looks “done”. Can’t believe how natural it looks. Very happy with my entire experience. I would recommend him to my friends and family. Merci Dr. Smith!
I had a rhinoplasty with Dr. Smith about a year and a half ago. The initial consultation went great; he took his time, answered all my questions and seemed very honest and trustworthy so I was very happy I found him. I searched a lot for the best surgeons in Toronto and really felt like he was the best for me. However, I unfortunately had a few issues after my surgery. First of all, during the first follow-up (which was 2 or 3 days after surgery) I asked him how everything went, if the bump was gone and if he achieved the curve and results I was hoping for. His answer was simply ‘’very good questions’’ as he laughed almost a bit nervously. He seemed lost and I could tell he didn’t really have the answers. It was almost as if he forgot everything about my case even if the surgery took place only 3 days before. I was surprised by his lack of professionalism, especially coming from a doctor with such a good reputation.
For the one week follow-up and the removal of the cast he wasn’t even present, instead, it was with another doctor he was mentoring from the hospital. Because of that, I e-mailed him a list of questions I had and I did not get an answer from him. I had to call his secretary who told me to forward her the e-mail and she had to remind him to answer me. Also, during every follow-up I had with him, he took pictures and promised to send them to me, but he never did.
The results were overall good but during the one month and the 6 months follow-up I brought up a small bump that was still present. He acknowledged it and was surprised it had happened. I then asked him about the possibility of a revision rhinoplasty and he told me to think about it and wait for the one year follow-up when my nose would be fully healed, which I did.
During the one year follow-up I told him I was still interested in a revision mainly because of the small bump, but also because I am unfortunately pretty dissatisfied with the appearance of my nose from a 45 degree angle. He told me he would not charge me full price for the revision, but it would also not be free since he did achieve some results which I completely agreed with. I was willing to pay partial fees because he did improve the overall appearance of my nose even if I’m not fully satisfied. He told me he would review my before and after pictures and e-mail me the price. Once again, I did not get an answer from him. I e-mailed him again a few weeks later and till this day, I have not heard back from him.
He is a skilled surgeon, but unfortunately he provides very poor patient care after surgery. It really feels like once he got my money and now that he can no longer make any profit with me, he doesn’t care anymore…
Dr. Smith is a wonderful and skilled rhinoplasty surgeon. Let’s get right to the most important part of any nose job undertaking; the result. I am very happy with my new nose, it now looks just the way I always wanted. I can also breath much better since surgery.
My original nose had a hump, and the tip pointed downwards with a droopy columella. In addition I always seemed to have issues breathing. I had a primary surgery with Dr. Smith in 2010. He corrected my deviated septum and I was breathing clearly for the first time in years. He also did a wonderful job with removing the hump, improving the profile, and making the overall nose narrower. The improvements were many.
By 2012 and a full 24 months after surgery (had a baby girl one year after surgery), there were still a few things that I was not 100% satisfied with. I shared my concerns with Dr. Smith and he agreed that my tip could be refined a bit more, and additional general improvements could be made one of which was to do a small graft to make my nose perfectly straight. It was a big decision for me to contemplate revisional, but I felt that the reward would outweigh the risk.
So I made the big decision to go for rhinoplasty round two in October 2014, six months after my second baby was born. The end result was that all the refinements that I discussed with Dr. Smith were executed to perfection. My recovery was relatively quick, and I am just so happy now.
A few general comments for those of you contemplating which surgeon to choose, these are some pointers that I have and I speak from a patient perspective that has had two surgeries. I also did have consultations with other surgeons before my first surgery in 2010.
-Dr Smith is a surgeon with extensive training in ENT and plastics, decades of experience, likely thousands upon thousands of rhinoplasties completed because this is all he does…….. but… he is also an artist. And this comes into play when you are entrusting someone to resculpt your nose. Point being, if you choose to go with him, you are likely giving yourself the highest chance of being happy with the result.
-Dr Smith is a realist. He provides fair percentages of success rates. If he feels something isn’t worth the risk, he will tell you. He doesn’t seem to be interested in providing false hope. He is very “to the point” about what he feels he can do with your nose. His listening skills also come into play here. He really absorbs what you say and want with your nose, you will notice this.
-He has a kind and compassionate demeanor about him. This in and of itself does not make a difference on the end result of the procedure, but at the end of the day you better like the surgeon that’s going to be operating on you. He’s just a darn nice guy.
-He has a beautiful and comforting new office. His old office was indeed a bit behind the times, but the new one is fabulous. Once again a nice office wont get you a great nose job result, but just wanted to share that it is a great atmosphere when you are there.
-And of course there is Bina. Such a nice person, always smiling, and so so helpful. She runs the office.
-Toronto East General hospital where both my surgeries were, the staff is very good. Everyone goes out of their way to help.
Really my overall experience with Dr. Smith was excellent. Obviously, I would have preferred not to have needed revisional, but at the end of the day, I judge my new nose on the end result and I couldn’t be happier. The journey was just a bit longer than originally planned.
I would have done nothing different throughout this whole process, Dr. Smith is the choice I recommend for all future rhinoplasty patients. Probably the most difficult thing for me was that he is based on the east side of Toronto and I am in the west end of the GTA. So going to see him for consultations pre and post opp made for a lot of driving, but so worth it. My husband also enjoyed chatting with Dr. Smith on our visits. Dealing with Dr Smith, has been a wonderful experience and my nose is now what I always wanted, you're first class all the way!!
RM. Primary October 19, 2010. Revisional Oct 21, 2014
Since I found Dr. Smith via this website, I though it would only be appropriate that I also left a review for others to read. I had a fairly large hump on my nose with a drooping tip, as well as a deviated septum for as long as I can remember which was impairing my breathing. I went to another doctor before seeing him but after doing some more research and reading many doctors' reviews I realized that Dr. Smith would be the best man for the job. I needed someone that not only could help me achieve my aesthetic goals but also correct my breathing, with minimal complications (he gave me the probabilities of success at 80-90% on all of the things he would would do).
I had my surgery back in December 2014 and I really have nothing but positive things to say. As with most surgeries, you won't really feel anything till you wake up :) The pain I felt afterwards was uncomfortable for maybe the first few days but quickly subsided. Dr. Smith was very responsive after surgery. I emailed him a question on Christmas eve and he still got back to me within the hour. That just shows his professionalism and compassion for his patients. The swelling is still visible but has come down a lot since I first had my bandages removed and I am very pleased with the results thus far. My nose looks better and most importantly I can breathe better!
Suffice to say I would recommend Dr. Smith to anyone who is looking to get a rhinoplasty and/or septoplasty done.
I had a crooked nose, it had a hump and the tip was a little too long and droopy. I thought about getting a rhinoplasty for a very long time - at least 10 years. I almost had the procedure when I was 16 but I'm so glad that I didn't go through with it. I went to see the surgen and I didn't feel comfortable enough so I cancelled my surgery. About 8 years later I decided I need to do something about it. I never really felt beautiful even though I always had people telling me that I was. I guess I just never felt feminine and thought I couldn't do my make-up or hair a certain way. I read a number of reviews and did a few months of research - like every night. I researched everything about rhinoplasty. My biggest concern was something going wrong during the procedure or having a really bad outcome. I had heard stories about people's noses falling apart because the surgery had been too aggressive. I read a number of reviews on sites such as this. I researched every surgen there is in Canada and realized that Toronto had some of the top surgens. After reading reviews about Dr. Smith I knew that he was my surgen. I saw a picture of him and I just had a good feeling about him. He just seemed so caring and a good person in general. I hadn't even met him yet. During my consultation I asked him so many questions - more questions about the anesthesia than the actual procedure because my biggest concern was dying or being paralyzed during the surgery. I know that it's an extreme thought to have but I watched the worst surgery stories and considered the worst case scenario. He answered all of my questions and I felt much better after meeting with him. We scheduled a surgery date - it was about 1.5 months later and I had the operation. When I woke up I felt a little dizzy but I recovered very quickly. When Dr. Smith took my bandage off my nose I was still very happy with my nose even though it was so swollen but for me that was still a huge improvement. I now love my nose and no one can tell that I had the procedure done. That's how I wanted it - I didn't want the nose that someone could spot a mile away as being an one that had been operated on. He straightened my nose, which i get compliments on all the time, he fixed the tip and removed the hump. I hated the hump the most. Overall, I think my experience turned out so amazing because I chose the right doctor. At the time Dr. Smith was at his old office and honestly it wasn't the nicest looking office and his secretary is just a really nice normal looking woman. That made me realize that he didn't need a fancy office or super pushy teenage girls with a lot of work done working at his desk to pursue people to get the surgery. He was very honest and upfront about everything and that's the most important thing when considering this type of surgery. You don't want to save a little money and get screwed at the end. Dr. Smith is a little more expensive than some of the surgens out there but you get what you pay for. I get everything on sale but I didn't want to worry about money when it came to my face. Anyways, I really hope that this review helps someone. I found him and decided to go with him after reading other people's reviews and hopefully this review helps someone make their decision. I wont upload any photos because I'm a very private person and I don't want my pictures online. To be honest I haven't really thought about my nose since I got the surgery and it's the best feeling in the world. I think I spent 99% of my time prior to the surgery thinking about my nose and now it's never on my mind and that's the best feeling ever. Maybe that's why it took me so long to write this review because I feel like I never had a surgery. Good luck to everyone and I really hope that you guys are happy with your results.
Dr Smith is a great surgeon! My revision nose job was about a year ago and I'm happy with the result. He was able to give me what I wanted, a small attractive nose. I don't think people notice my nose anymore, when before I was self-conscious about it.
But the r4easonI decided to leave my comments is really his personality. What a difference between Dr Smith and the first surgeon! Dr Smith was frank and open. It was a real pleasure to hear the truth instead of reassuring platitudes.
The first surgeon didn't talk about risks and the chance of success. He sure didn't mention my nose could be made worse! But that's what happened! Afterwards I couldn't breath and my nose looked twisted. After surgery he became progressively hostile and short. It became increasingly difficult to get an appt. In the end I just gave up.
Dr Smith took the time to explain what was going to happen and how likely I would get what I wanted. His matter of fact and honest to a fault approach was surprising and certainly refreshing!
Only by looking back do I now realize how silly I was to assume all plastic surgeons would do a good job! Like lots of people I wish I had done some research the first time. So it was an expensive lesson! My advise is to do your homework first. I'd recommend Dr Smith as the surgeon to see. Thanks Dr Smith!
Dr Smith was recommended by my BFF. She raved on and on over him. I had always been uncomfortable and very self-conscious about how large my nose was. After calling and speaking to Beena I immediately felt relieved. When I met Dr Smith he explained what he would do and made suggestions about the look we wanted to achieve. I was shocked at his drawing skill. In 30 seconds he had drawn my nose exactly! I was never uncomfortable or felt worried about my decision. He is a thoughtful, kind and compassionate doctor.
My surgery went fantastically, Brenda called to check in on my recovery that night. I feel more confident now, people comment on how good I look and best of all nobody has guessed I've had a nose job! Thanks Dr Smith, Beena, Kyra and Brenda, you're all fabulous!
My husband and I saw several doctors (Asaria-too young)(Solomon-too rushed)(Rival-good) before going ahead. Dr Smith was the one we felt the most likely to be successful. I found this site and realself.com helpful in confirming my impression. Plus I was impressed he is a sculptor. The surgery was unpleasant, but I had been warned. In fact the stents weren't so bad.
I did poorly initially. I had a big nose, which to me looked like it belonged on another face. Although Dr Smith had told me it would take time for my nose to shape up, I was very unset after surgery. The tip was wide and round and looked like a big fat ball. I was devastated and felt in spite of all my research I had made the worst choice of my life. Even though I live in northern Ontario I saw Dr Smith many times and sent him several photos. He was patient and in retrospect spent a lot of time listening to my concerns. He told me my nose would improve as the swelling went away. I didn't believe him cause he wouldn't promise it. Well he was right all along. First the bridge started to look okay and then the tip narrowed. I'm now 6 months out and my nose looks good! It's much smaller and is perfect for my face. After some very dark days I'm now very glad I did it! It's a hugh improvement and although nobody noticed I'm okay with that too. I love Dr Smith (my husband is okay what I worship him!) He held my hand for months and listened to all my fears and tears. If I have a complaint, it's that he's too honest. If he had simply guaranteed it was all going to be fine I might have done better. Although I was such an emotional mess, it may not have made a difference! Thank you Dr Smith. You are good at what you do and are a very kind person too. And for everyone reading this and thinking about rhinoplasty, go see him. He's the best!
