As an L.A. Times article in his office says, he was on an iron lung for polio as a child. Still in a wheelchair today; his legs frequently fracture. I've no complaints about waits or punctuality. Having been involved with AIDS research, Dr. G. is part of a team putting some study numbers behind the long-theorized cytokine changes across the CFIDS spectrum, and despite being "atypical," in '07 I lit his new panel up like a Xmas tree. He'd also called off his last treatment "trial" because it didn't look promising, which says something. Dr. G is conservative but scientific; he can't cure your CFIDS/ME since we're not there yet, but he will test, troubleshoot, monitor, and otherwise help you to the best of his ability - and that includes not feeding holistic crap or "real" medicine's last-ditch measures like Gamma Globulin that could backfire. He's one who's taught me that trust is one of the best drugs a doctor can deliver - well worth the wait.
Dr. Galpin is an excellent physician whom I would recommend highly. He is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and truly dedicated to his patients. Yes, he does run behind schedule, but only because he gives every patient his undivided attention. His front and back office staff are top notch too. They don't make doctors like him any more!
I have been seeing Dr. Galpin for almost 25 years. He is an amazing diagnostician. He listens and cares. He is honest and upfront, and let me take part in decision regarding my treatment. He is thorough, and his first "hunch" and treatment choice is correct 90% of the time. There is a long wait at times, but he is worth it. They don't make doctors like him anymore!
One of the most brilliant physicians I have met! A big negative is the sometime long (1.5hr) wait times. I'm extremely happy as he has helped keep me alive and healthy with HIV for almost 2 decades. Will work with the patient in deciding his or her care options. He doesn't hesitate to reccomend other specialist when needed. Very nice person too. HIGLY reccomended...the best ID Dr. around!
Very simple. He's kept me alive for the last 14 years despite having a crazy combination of infectious diseases. Do I have to wait to see him...you bet. Is it worth it...you bet. Even returned my phone call to Greece when I had an issue on my honeymoon. He's the best.
I have to agree with all the positive things the other raters said, and with the long waiting times. He really is cutting edge. I often bring in articles about research, treatments, clinical trials, etc and he takes the time to go over them (90% of the time already knows about them!)and discuss the pros and cons. His bedside manner is excellent; he is compassionate and talks to you at whatever your level of understanding is. He is an amazing diagnostician and can find the needle in the haystack like no other doctor I know. I've been a CFS patient of his for more than four years now, and sometimes think all the tests he runs on me is for his research, but every medical problem I've had he has been able to solve, even one that a neuro/internist/cardiologist/hospitaliztion could not. It's no wonder he has patients from all over the west coast; he IS that good.
Dr. Galpin is about as good as it gets. Even saw me for free while I was switching my insurance so that I could continue being treated. Top researcher and top notch doctor. I drive 25 miles to see him even though I have two of the largest medical centers in Souther California within 10 minutes of my house but that doesn't compare to other who fly in from accross the nation for their regular appoints. He's that good.
Great for obscure or infectious diseases and undiagnosed autoimmune disease. This doc will not just give out rubber stamp diagnosis like the other 40 docs you have been to. He will actually listen to everything you have to say and test for everything under the sun until he figures out what is wrong. He gave me back my sanity.
